US sprinter Kerley out of US trials
"The 100m should be a straight sprint," Kerley wrote. "2025 has presented many hurdles. Taking some time out to get back on track. No USATF Champs this year. Thanks to all my supporters."
Kerley, 30, was a silver medallist in the 100m at the Tokyo Olympics and won bronze in the event in Paris last year.
In 2022 he stormed to gold at the world championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, the venue for this week's US championships, which doubles as trials for the World Championships.
Kerley had clocked a respectable 9.98sec for the 100m in May.
However his season has been overshadowed by controversy away from the track.
In early May he withdrew from the Grand Slam Track meeting in Miami after being arrested for battery.
In January he was arrested by police in Miami Beach following a confrontation with officers that led to him being tasered. He was subsequently charged with battery against a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Separately in January, Kerley was also charged with domestic violence by strangulation following an incident in May 2024.

McIntosh powers to third gold of worlds, 12-year-old Yu fourth
McIntosh touched the wall in 2min 01.99sec, just failing to beat the world mark of 2:01.81 set by China's Liu Zige in 2009. It was the second-fastest time in history. American Regan Smith was second in 2:04.99, with Australia's Elizabeth Dekkers third in 2:06.12. Chinese 12-year-old Yu Zidi was narrowly fourth in 2:06.43. Léon Marchand of France won the gold in the 200m individual medley at the swimming world championships in Singapore on Thursday with a time of 1minute, 53.68 seconds. His timing on Thursday was the second-fastest of all time. It came a day after Marchand set the record on Wednesday in the semifinals at the worlds – 1 minute, 52.69 seconds. That shattered the old mark of 1:54.00 that had been held by American Ryan Lochte since 2011.
