Woman who sings 'God Bless America' every day turns 90
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (WROC) – A birthday celebration was held Sunday in Canandaigua for Pat Searles who turned 90 last week. Pat sings 'God Bless America' every day just before noon. News 8 highlighted one of Searles' performances last month on Memorial Day. She's been singing 'God Bless America' every day for the past five years and has no plans on stopping.

Rosedale Strawberry Festival wraps up another successful year
ROSEDALE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— This weekend wrapped up the summer festivities for Rosedale's Strawberry Festival. In the town of Rosedale, the Strawberry Festival continues to grow every year. The original festival developed, as strawberries were at one time the biggest crop in the area. Now, the annual festival, held the first week of June every year, marks the true start to summer. The Strawberry Princess Evelyn Lund and Strawberry Queen Emma Patton said they enjoy how hard everyone works to create this festival and admire how the community comes together. Sunday's strawberry eating contest wrapped up the 2025 festivities. Organizers say the festival is so special to the town of Rosedale and it takes many volunteers to make it come to life. 'There's a lot of people that take a fair drive to get here and there's a lot of people who walk right out of their back door. You know, the strawberry thing's been huge in this community and surrounding area, the township, for generations and decades,' said Matt Cottrell, organizer of this event along with his wife, Sarah Cottrell. (WROC) — When spotlighting the most prominent Rochesterians — it's easy to quickly showcase Foreigner's lead singer Lou Gramm, abolitionist Frederick Douglass, and inventor George Eastman. Did you know these celebrities were born and raised right here in the Flower City? Known for providing the voice of Phineas Flynn on the Disney Channel animated series 'Phineas and Ferb' and playing the role of Chris Rock's best friend 'Greg' on 'Everybody Hates Chris,' Vincent Martella was born in Rochester before moving to central Florida during his childhood — according to the star's IMDB page. But the Martella family has stayed in the area — Captain Tony's Pizza & Pasta Emporium has been serving guests for more than 45 years, after Martella's relative Antonio opened in 1972. Vincent stopped by the pizza shop in 2017 for a special meet and greet before emceeing the Special Olympics that year. A new season of 'Phineas and Ferb' premiered on Disney+ on June 5. Did you know these movies were filmed around Rochester? His heart is a stereo — that was born and raised just 45 minutes from Rochester. Travie McCoy, co-founder and lead vocalist of the group 'Gym Class Heroes' was born in Geneva in 1981. McCoy formed the group with his friend, Matt McGinley, who he met in ninth grade at a Geneva High School. Gym Class Heroes has had top 20 albums on the Billboard 200 chart, and hit singles 'Cupid's Chokehold,' 'Stereo Hearts' with Maroon 5's Adam Levine and 'The Fighter' with OneRepublic's front man Ryan Tedder. Kristen Wiig had a seven-season tenure on the hit TV show from 2005 to 2012, where she received four nominations for Primetime Emmy awards. Time Magazine named Wiig as one of the 100 most influential people in the world twice — in 2012 and 2025. After moving to Pennsylvania at the age of three, Wiig and her family returned to Rochester where she went to school at Allendale Columbia School and graduated from Brighton High School. Wiig's family has even closer ties as well. Wiig's paternal grandfather was a formed executive here at WROC-TV! Her mother ran a lake marina in Western New York, as well. Community gathers for 34th Strawberry Days Festival in Grove City
GROVE CITY, Pa. (WKBN) — The rain didn't stop people from enjoying a summer tradition in Grove City on Sunday afternoon. It was the last day of the 34th Strawberry Days Festival at Grove City Memorial Park on West Main Street. There were 32 new vendors selling items such as woodwork, jewelry, candles, pottery and art. Other vendors offered wood carvings, pet supplies, tumblers, mugs, donuts, hot sauces and dips. Event organizer Mary Kay Mattocks says it's fun for the whole family. '176 crafters, there is 18 nonprofit food vendors that are all local food vendors. We have a children's shortcake patch for children,' Mattocks. The festival goes until 9 p.m. and is free to get in.
