We will await the report on teacher's reprimand of student

The Sun27-05-2025

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government is waiting for the full investigation report regarding a student allegedly reprimanded by a teacher at a primary school canteen on April 14.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari stated that the case is under investigation by the Selangor Education Department and any action will be determined only after a thorough inquiry.
'The Education Department is reviewing the matter. We will wait for their report. We need to understand the cause of the incident and the extent of the teacher's anger.
'We cannot immediately penalise the teacher as they may be under pressure from challenging environments. Mutual understanding is essential,' he said after officiating the Selangor Islamic Religious Department Teachers' Day celebration today.
The incident gained public attention following the circulation of a 2-minute 32-second video showing a student sobbing while explaining something to a teacher who was scolding her at the school canteen.
In response, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek reportedly stated that the ministry will take full responsibility and conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
Fadhlina also expressed regret over the incident, especially given the widespread circulation of the video and its significant impact on the community.

Amirudin denies vacating Sungai Tua state seat, amid claim of by-election for Tengku Zafrul to become Selangor MB

SHAH ALAM, June 3 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari today denied that the Sungai Tua state seat he won in the 2023 state election would be vacated. Describing the claim as imaginary and baseless, the Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said that vacating a seat to make way for an individual is not as easy as one might think. 'It's not that simple, it requires some research,' he said when met at the E-Bike Handover Ceremony to Selangor police at Selangor police contingent headquarters, here today. Amirudin, who is also the Selangor Menteri Besar, said this in response to the claim that the Sungai Tua state seat would be vacated to allow for a by-election to be held, as well as to make way for Trade, Investment and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz to contest. Last Friday, Tengku Zafrul announced his resignation from UMNO and his intention to join PKR. — Bernama * Editor's note: An earlier version erroneously spelt Sungai Tua as Sungai Tea in the headline and has since been corrected.

Technical report on Putra Heights gas blast to be ready by June 26

The gas pipeline blast in Putra Heights on April 1 left a 10m-deep crater, measuring 21m by 24m. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The technical report on the gas pipeline explosion and fire incident in Putra Heights on April 1 is expected to be completed by June 26, says Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari. Amirudin said the report will be aligned with the findings of the criminal probe before being made public, Bernama reported. He said the technical probe, led by the occupational safety and health department (DOSH), will cover pipe integrity, ground movement and whether nearby activities exerted pressure on the pipeline. 'We cannot release our criminal investigation yet because it needs to be combined with the technical investigation as there are still areas that need to be identified through the criminal probe,' he was quoted as saying at an e-bike handover ceremony to the Selangor police at its headquarters in Shah Alam today. On May 27, Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the police criminal investigation, which looked into possible negligence or sabotage, had been completed, but they were waiting for DOSH to finalise its findings. The explosion occurred at 8.10am on April 1, causing flames to shoot up over 30m high and temperatures to reach 1,000°C. It took nearly eight hours to extinguish the fire, which left a 10m-deep crater, measuring 21m by 24m.

Amirudin dismisses talk he's set to vacate state seat for Tengku Zafrul

Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari said the 'Kajang Move' in 2014 had triggered political uncertainty in Selangor although the then state government had a solid majority. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari has denied speculation that he is set to vacate his Sungai Tua state seat to make way for Tengku Zafrul Aziz to contest in the ensuing by-election, representing PKR. Amirudin said this was just empty talk based on the 'wild imagination' of certain individuals who were seeking to spread that narrative via social media, Sinar Harian reported. The PKR vice-president also said he did not want to see a repeat of the 'Kajang Move' in 2014, which culminated in the late Abdul Khalid Ibrahim resigning as the then Selangor menteri besar. The 'Kajang Move' refers to PKR's plan in 2014 to trigger a by-election in the Kajang state seat to install Anwar Ibrahim as the next Selangor menteri besar to replace Khalid, who was seen as going against party policies. The move fizzled out after Anwar's conviction in his sodomy case was upheld by the Court of Appeal, and eventually led to Azmin Ali being appointed menteri besar. Amirudin said that episode had triggered political uncertainty in Selangor although Khalid's state government initially had a solid majority in the legislative assembly. 'I don't think (I will vacate the seat). I want to complete my term (as menteri besar) in full and ensure harmony because there are a lot of things that we need to settle. 'This (speculation) doesn't need to be prolonged. (PKR's) focus is on aligning our leadership and the issues related to the cohesion of the federal and state governments, as well as the upcoming Sabah election,' he said. Tengku Zafrul, the investment, trade and industry minister, had quit Umno last week and expressed his intention to join PKR. There has been speculation over his fate as minister as his final term as senator expires at the end of the year. Also, there is public expectation of a Cabinet reshuffle as Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad have quit their ministerial posts. In a Facebook video yesterday, former Umno leader Isham Jalil claimed that Amirudin would be ordered to vacate his Sungai Tua seat to allow Tengku Zafrul to contest in the by-election. Winning the by-election could then allow Tengku Zafrul to take over as menteri besar, as speculated previously, while Amirudin could join Anwar's Cabinet as he is also the Gombak MP at present.
