Amirudin denies vacating Sungai Tua state seat, amid claim of by-election for Tengku Zafrul to become Selangor MB
SHAH ALAM, June 3 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari today denied that the Sungai Tua state seat he won in the 2023 state election would be vacated.
Describing the claim as imaginary and baseless, the Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said that vacating a seat to make way for an individual is not as easy as one might think.
'It's not that simple, it requires some research,' he said when met at the E-Bike Handover Ceremony to Selangor police at Selangor police contingent headquarters, here today.
Amirudin, who is also the Selangor Menteri Besar, said this in response to the claim that the Sungai Tua state seat would be vacated to allow for a by-election to be held, as well as to make way for Trade, Investment and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz to contest.

Putrajaya slams UN Security Council's failure to pass Gaza ceasefire resolution after US veto
KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 — The Malaysian government today condemned the United Nations Security Council's (UNSC) failure to adopt a resolution calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. In a statement published on the Foreign Affairs Ministry's website, the government said it strongly opposed the 'Zionist Israeli regime's' murder of civilians, genocide, and deliberate starvation of the population by blocking humanitarian aid. 'The repeated failure of the Security Council to respond to one of the most devastating human tragedies since the Second World War, as a result of the exercise of veto, is indeed regrettable and deeply disappointing,' read the statement. 'The Zionist Israeli regime must realise that the only path to lasting peace and stability in the Middle East is through the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,' it added. Earlier today, the UNSC voted on a draft resolution calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and the unconditional lifting of all restrictions on humanitarian aid. The US was the only country to vote against the resolution, while the other 14 council members supported it.

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA: A PKR leader has defended the Madani City project in Putrajaya after a Bersatu leader questioned the use of the government's tagline in naming the project. PKR central leadership council member G Sivamalar said 'Madani' referred to the government's core values – including sustainability, innovation, and compassion – and was not meant to promote any single individual. 'It needs to be stressed that it's 'Madani City', not 'Anwar's City' as cynically claimed by Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan. 'It's shameful to mock a policy built on such principles for political gain,' Sivamalar said in a statement. She added that the project addressed a real need for housing among civil servants, who make up 90% of Putrajaya's population. Sivamalar cited the Auditor-General's Report 2021, which said that nearly 18,000 civil servants were still waiting for government quarters. She said the 41ha Madani City project would offer 10,000 housing units for up to 30,000 people, and was meant to be a walkable city with essential services within a 15-minute radius. She urged critics to stop politicising public welfare and to support meaningful solutions introduced by the government. Yesterday, Wan Saiful warned against using administrative slogans to brand major projects, saying it could lead to losses if there was a change in government. The groundbreaking ceremony for the Madani City project is set for June 26. The township will come with a secondary school, a technical and vocational education and training institution, banks, a government clinic and a mosque, among others.
