Unmarked HGV cab 'golden ticket' for Surrey road police
The Operation Tramline cabin has been used for more than 13,000 hours by forces nationally since 2015, National Highways said.The most common offences recorded over the last decade have been not wearing a seatbelt (14,861) and using a mobile phone (13,553). One Surrey driver defended their use of a mobile phone by saying they had a new girlfriend and their song came on the radio, so they needed to call them.Just last month, police spotted three drivers in Surrey without their hands on the wheel while using their phones, National Highways said.
'Dangerous and selfish'
Sgt Pascoe said: "Vehicles have been getting progressively higher over the years, but this cab is a golden ticket enabling us to see over into pretty much every vehicle."Sussex Police Chief Constable Jo Shiner, National Police Chiefs' Council lead for road policing, said: "Driving while distracted is incredibly dangerous and selfish, putting many lives at risk and as the statistics show, it can all too often end in tragedy."She said the Operation Tramline results "speak for themselves in showing just how valuable it is and how the perspective from the truck cab enhances officers' view of the road".

M60 traffic: Major UK motorway remains shut 12 hours after motorcyclist killed in horror crash
A MAJOR UK motorway remains shut 12 hours after a motorcyclist was killed in a horror crash. A man in his 50s died at the scene after the crash on the M60 in Greater Manchester yesterday evening. 1 Greater Manchester Police were alerted to a crash involving a motorcycle on the clockwise carriageway at 8.15pm yesterday. The incident happened between Junction 18 and Junction 19 near Middleton. Emergency services found a man in his 50s with serious injuries at the scene. Despite the best efforts of the paramedics at the scene, the man succumbed to his injuries. No other vehicles were involved. Crash investigators are now appealing for any information or dashcam footage from anyone travelling near the scene. The motorway remains closed this morning while the investigation continues. In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 8:15pm yesterday we were called to reports of a single-vehicle RTC involving a motorcycle travelling clockwise on the M60 between junctions 18 and 19. "Despite best efforts of the emergency services, a male in his 50s sadly died at the scene of the collision. "No other vehicles were involved and we are now appealing for more information to understand the circumstances that led up to the collision. "We are particularly interested in anybody who may have dash-cam footage of the incident." National Highways said: "The M60 has now re-opened anti-clockwise between J19 (Simister) and J18 near Middleton. "The clockwise carriageway remains closed due to a police led incident."

A motorbiker in his 50s has died after a serious crash on the M60 in Greater Manchester. A stretch of the M60 remains closed 12 hours after the smash, which happened between junctions J18 and J19 near Middleton yesterday evening. The emergency services were alerted after a crash involving a motorcycle on the clockwise carriageway. The crews found a man in his 50s with serious injuries. No other vehicles were involved. Despite the efforts of the paramedics, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Crash investigators are now appealing for any information or dashcam footage from anyone travelling near the scene at about 8.15pm yesterday. The motorway remains closed clockwise this morning while an investigation continues.
