Shahjahanpur (UP), Aug 10 (PTI) A 35-year-old woman died after being swept away in the strong current of the Ganga River in Shahjahanpur district on Sunday, police said.
'Her four-year-old son Kaju is yet to be traced. Our divers are making continuous efforts,' she said.
The incident took place around 4 pm on the Shamshabad Dhai Ghat road at the Bharatpur culvert.

Mumbai Police arrested a woman within 12 hours of her allegedly committing a Rs 1.5 crore robbery at her married sister's home in Mumbai's Vasai. The accused, identified as 27-year-old Jyoti Bhanushali, allegedly disguised herself as a man to fool the family members and carry out the incident took place around 12:30 pm on Monday in the Kishore Kunj building at Shastri Nagar in Vasai West. Investigations revealed she had lost Rs 30 lakh in the stock market and had mortgaged her own jewellery to a allegedly planned to replace her pledged ornaments with the stolen ones before an upcoming marriage proposal. Her plan failed as police quickly identified her through the CCTV footage and family input. She was brought back to Vasai, where she confessed to the have registered a case against her under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Five, including two children, drown in state
Bhopal/Jabalpur: Five people, among them two children, have drowned in separate incidents in Balaghat and Sidhi districts. In Balaghat's Rampayli area, three relatives were swept away while bathing in the Wainganga river at Beni village on Tuesday evening. The victims, Mohit Burde, 21, his cousin Akhil Burde, 17, and Rakesh Nandarawar, 32, had gone to the river with Akhil's father Nandan Burde while visiting for Raksha Bandhan and the Bhujali festival. "A total of five people went there to bathe in the Wainganga river, and of those, three drowned. All the bodies were recovered on Wednesday and sent for autopsy," Waraseoni SDOP Abhishek Chowdhary told TOI. Sources said Mohit was pursuing a BCA degree and Akhil was a college student. In another incident at Sidhi district's Jamodi Kalan village, two cousins, Surya Prakash, 7, and Surya, 9, drowned in a rainwater-filled pit on Tuesday evening. Sources said the boys entered the pit to bathe, unaware of its depth. When they did not return, locals found their clothes on the river bank and alerted police. Punjab: Marriage of 16-year-old girl foiled by officials in Faridkot
Chandigarh, Aug 13 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl was rescued from getting married at a village in Punjab's Faridkot by a team of District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), officials said. Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister, Baljit Kaur, commended the action taken by officials and stakeholders, stressing that strict enforcement of child protection laws is essential to safeguard the rights of minors. Kaur said that the intervention was carried out under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. The rescued minor from Sangrahoor village was produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), which provided counselling and issued necessary directions. She was then handed over to her parents after they provided a written undertaking to ensure her safety, education, and overall well-being. Regular follow-up and monitoring will be undertaken to safeguard the best interests of the child. Reiterating the commitment of the Punjab government to making the state child marriage-free, Kaur said continuous efforts are being made to strengthen the system for awareness generation, prevention, and effective enforcement of laws, so that every child can enjoy a safe and bright childhood. The minister also appealed to the public to extend full cooperation to the government in making Punjab free from child marriage.
