The former striker played for seven different clubs in a career spanning almost two decades, including Tranmere, Cardiff City, Charlton Athletic and Rotherham.
But it was at latter club Rotherham where Moore cemented himself in English football history as he's considered of the greatest club players of all time.
It was the South Yorkshire side who delicately revealed that Moore has been diagnosed with Myeloma – a type of blood cancer.
The much-loved EFL figure will now receive treatment in the coming months.
He will reportedly await a stem cell transplant for a cancer that is treatable, but sadly incurable and will need to be managed by medical professionals.
Rotherham revealed that Liverpool-born Moore is currently "feeling well" and walking regularly.
The League One club: " We're right with you Ronnie ❤. The thoughts and unwavering support of everyone at Rotherham is with legendary former player and manager."
A true legend of the football club, Ronnie will continue to be welcome to attend matches at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Moore, who has managed nearly 1000 games, has received hundreds of tributes from the English football world, wishing him support.
One footie fan wrote: "Proper top bloke Ronnie, from a Barnsley fan I wish him all the best in the world.
Neil Warnock hints at shock return to management with 'unbelievable' crisis club
"Always used to come in local boozer to us and would make time to come talk football and all sorts with us. One of the good ones!"
While another supporter said: "You've got this Ronnie, keep fighting 👊❤️🤍."
Rotherham fans have planned to sing Moore's name loud and clear when they face Port Vale in their season opener on Saturday.
Moore's time in the EFL began 54 YEARS ago when he joined Tranmere Rovers.
Despite being a prolific striker, the 6ft footballer was used as a defender by player-manager Ron Yeats, before returning to centre forward under John King.
Tranmere were forced to sell Moore for financial reasons after they were relegated in 1979.
He joined Cardiff City for a then-staggering club record of £120,000, but signed for then third tier side Rotherham a year later.
And he quickly made an impact, becoming top scorer when the club got promoted to the Second Division in the 1980-81 season.
After 52 goals in three years for the club, Moore left for Charlton Athletic in 1983, reportedly because of a clash with incoming manager, George Kerr, centred around access to the players' bar.
A season-long stint at Rochdale followed, as well as a three-year return to Tranmere, before retiring from football in 1989.

Four years later his son Ian Thomas-Moore made his senior debut for Tranmere, where he made over 50 appearances before a loan spell at Bradford City.
Moore Jr, who followed in his striker dad's footsteps, later became a key player Burnley and Leeds United.
Meanwhile, Moore Sr, who has three other children with wife Ange, managed eight clubs in his career.
But most successful stint as boss was again with Rotherham , where he achieved two consecutive promotions, taking the club from Division Three to Division One.
Moore's career almost didn't happen at all, his chance of an apprenticeship with Everton wrecked when he was 15 and his mum died of cancer in 1969.
He previously told The Star: "Bang, I went off the rails massively. I was out on the Friday when we were playing Saturday, looking for trouble, getting into fights.
"It's ridiculous how you can lose your way. Everton weren't going to put up with that."
He made sausages in the butcher's shop at the Alliance Cash and Carry in Huyton, Liverpool before Tranmere gave him his chance.

Man Utd fans banned from getting three names printed on new shirt

Manchester United fans were stunned to learn that they cannot get the names of three former players printed on the club's new kit. Excitement for the new Premier League season is growing with less than two weeks to go before the opening game between champions Liverpool and Bournemouth. Clubs are finishing off their pre-season preparations, with United taking on Everton and Fiorentina before kicking-off the new campaign against Arsenal on August 17. Supporters are also gearing up the season by getting their hands on the new Red Devils home and away shirts, but those who recently ventured to the Old Trafford megastore were in for a surprise. As shared on social media by a fan, a sign displaying United's shirt printing policy states: 'Due to licensing restrictions, we are unable to print Cantona, Beckham, and Ronaldo,' on the back of shirts. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo are of course three of the greatest players in United's history and three icons of football. More Trending All wore the iconic No.7 shirt and won a total of 21 major trophies during their time in Manchester. Yet, United have confirmed that as the trio own their image rights, their names cannot be printed on replica kits at the club's own shop. Additionally, it is said this policy is not new and has actually been in place for a number of years. United are not the only club who have this issue, as it was reported last year that Real Madrid had banned fans from getting names of several Los Blancos legends on new kits, including Beckham and Ronaldo. Fans still have plenty of other names they can choose from, including new signings Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Diego Leon who will wear numbers 10, 19 and 30 this season. It is an unusual sight to see Cunha donning the famous United No.10 shirt which had been worn by Marcus Rashford since 2018. 'It's something that you always dream about,' the forward said upon signing and taking over the number earlier this summer. 'I can mention many players that use this shirt. It's so easy for me. 'Of course, I think the one that I always think about when I see this number in this shirt for me was Wayne Rooney. He was someone that I grew up to watch him play and I have [watched] many games now. 'Then I swapped shirts with Marcus [after a game] also, I have his shirt in my home. But, of course, we know many players used this shirt – [Ruud] van Nistelrooy, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic. 'It's the dream not only to use the shirt, but with all the history they have around the number, it's something beautiful that I have the privilege to do it.' Liverpool selling player who took Thiago's breath away in Alexander Isak boost

After Liverpool's hopes of signing Alexander Isak recently took a knock, the Merseysiders were given a boost by a player who impressed Thiago Alcantara Liverpool are on the verge of selling academy graduate Tyler Morton to Lyon, which will boost their hopes of signing Alexander Isak. The Reds have spent more than £300million this summer, but Newcastle United recently turned down a bid of £120m. ‌ They recently had a fresh injection of funds by selling Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich for £65.5m. Now Arne Slot's team could score a new windfall, as the Ligue 1 side recently made contact about securing a £15m deal. ‌ The Wirral born midfielder made his debut for the Reds in 2021 when Jurgen Klopp started him in their Champions League clash against Porto. He made a firm impression with the German and his team-mates, with midfield magician Thiago Alcantara praising his performance. ‌ After his display showed maturity beyond his years, Thiago told reporters: "The first time Tyler came, I said 'Who is this player?' "He was training amazingly with us and he deserved to be part of the team tonight. I think he will have a bright and great career here at Liverpool and in football in general." Nearly four years after his unforgettable moment, Lyon look set to sign him, according to the Athletic. The outlet claims he is close to moving across the English channel to sign for Paulo Fonseca's side. ‌ While he is thought of highly on Merseyside, he has been stuck behind Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Harvey Elliott in the pecking order. After a huge summer of spending, Liverpool will be keen to recoup some funds, especially since Newcastle have made it clear they will need to up their offer for Isak to tempt them into selling. Their Premier League record-breaking bid of £120m on Friday night was rebuffed by the Magpies, who, according to Sky Sports, will only sanction a sale if they sign a replacement for the Swede. The Reds are believed to be preparing a second bid for Isak, though some reports claim they might walk away for now. ‌ Isak did not travel on Eddie Howe's side's pre-season tour of South Korea. He has also been training alone, using the facilities of his former side Real Sociedad, who he left to join Newcastle in the summer of 2022 for £60m. Isak has contributed 62 goals and 11 assists in 109 appearances for the Toon. They are looking to replace his goals by signing Benjamin Sesko. ‌ The League Cup winners made a formal bid for the RB Leipzig forward, which is understood to be around £70m. The 22-year-old Slovenian is also being closely monitored by Manchester United, who have been trying to sign a new centre-forward all summer. Howe has so far been resolute about Isak's status at Newcastle, but the ex-Bournemouth manager has admitted it's out of his control. Commenting on Liverpool's recent offer for him, Howe said: "I was made aware of a bid yesterday (Friday) and that bid was turned down, all before I'd even heard about it. "People back in England are dealing with the situation. I don't know what happens next. From our perspective, we still support Alex in every way and my wish is that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again.' Alexander Isak left Arsenal ace in no doubt as Liverpool sent clear message - 'So serious'

Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino has great memories of playing alongside Liverpool target Alexander Isak, who has been pushing for a move away from Newcastle United Mikel Merino says Alexander Isak possesses one key trait that would make him a hit at Liverpool if the champions sign the Newcastle striker. The 25-year-old has been swayed by the Reds' interest this summer. ‌ Isak did not join Newcastle's pre-season tour to Asia before it surfaced that he had requested to explore a move away from Tyneside. Liverpool have since had a bid worth £120million turned down for Isak, who is currently training with his former club Real Sociedad, the team he left for Newcastle in a £60m deal in 2022. ‌ At present, Liverpool are not planning to make a second offer for Isak following the swift and clear nature of Newcastle's rejection. However, with Isak keen on a move away, Newcastle find themselves in a difficult position and may alter their stance, particularly if they succeed in signing Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, as they are predicted to do. ‌ If Liverpool do manage to sign Isak, they need look no further than one of his ex-colleagues for a glowing reference. Arsenal's Merino, who played alongside Isak at both Borussia Dortmund and Sociedad, has spoken highly of the Swedish international on several occasions, highlighting his adaptability and how he takes being the best teammate he can be 'very seriously'. Speaking to CBS in 2021, Merino said: "I think he's a great player. I have the luck of being with him in Dortmund as well, we were there together for six months and when he came here to La Real I was really surprised. "I was really happy to see him, and we could talk a lot about our time in Dortmund. Right now he's a big, big piece for us, he's doing great he's adapting really, really good here, everybody loves him in the dressing room. "I think he speaks Spanish perfect, so that talks very good about him, the way he wants to adapt here, the way he's so serious about his job and about not only football, but you know being a good teammate, being a professional." After his switch to Newcastle a year later, Merino maintained his praise and backed him to be a hit in the Premier League, telling The Athletic:"Alex has already started well. His mindset is very good. He can adapt to whatever you tell him. ‌ "When he came here, he had to adapt to a very specific system of playing where he had a specific role to make an exact movement when the ball was in a certain position. "Being from Sweden and being able to adapt showed how smart he is. With his abilities, his speed and strength, the Premier League is a good place for him. He'll be great for the Magpies." One quality he consistently highlighted was Isak's capacity to adapt, a characteristic that could serve him well should he secure a transfer to Liverpool this summer. ‌ Meanwhile, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has responded to Liverpool's rejected bid, which was turned down by the club's board. He said: "I think from my situation, I am very much removed from everything that is happening back home. "I was made aware there was a bid yesterday. That bid was turned down before I heard about it. There are people back in England dealing with the situation. "I really don't know what is going to happen next, but from our perspective, we still support Alex in every way, and my wish is still that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again."
