Body found in search for missing Scot after heartbreaking early morning discovery
A body has been found in a wooded area during the search for a missing Scots man. David Houston vanished from Kilwinning in North Ayrshire on Tuesday, August 5, with his disappearance sparking an urgent police appeal.
The 47-year-old was last seen at around 4.15pm on Tuesday, on Bradshaw Street in Saltcoats. Cops previously said they were becoming "increasingly concerned" for David's wellbeing.
People in the vicinity were being urged people to keep an eye out for him and authorities were carrying out a number of enquiries in a bid to trace him.
However, in the early hours of the morning, at around 3:10am on Thursday, August 7, police were sadly made aware of the body of a man found in a wooded area.
The discovery was made off the B785 at Eglington Park in Kilwinning.

Formal identification has still to take place.
However, David's family have been made aware of the latest development.
The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.
Todd Ferguson, Independent Unionist Councillor for North Ayrshire, wrote in tribute to his 'best friend'.
He said: "I'm devastated to hear this news. David was my best friend growing up and I have so many fond memories of our adventures together.
"My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time."

Reports of a large great white shark near some of Maine's most popular beaches have prompted police in one coastal town to issue a warning on Tuesday. Scarborough 's marine resource officer got word of the roughly 10- to 12-foot shark (over 3 meters) on Monday, police said. The shark was spotted in the area of Crescent Beach State Park, Higgins Beach and Pine Point Beach, they said, all located within a half-hour's drive of Portland. Commercial clam fisherman David Lancaster was able to take drone footage of the shark swimming just beneath the surface, its grey fin poking through the gentle swells. He said seeing the big shark was 'magnificent,' if a little surprising. 'It was pretty crazy to see in the local waters. There are some really amazing creatures in the sea,' Lancaster, who loves in nearby Scarborough, said. 'It's in the back of your head, but you have to accept it.' White sharks, made famous 50 years ago in the movie 'Jaws,' are not commonly seen off Maine, but have lived in the state's waters for centuries. Sightings ticked up in recent years, and some scientists say the state's growing population of seals could be a reason for more shark activity. White sharks feed on marine mammals such as seals. The police department in Scarborough said they were circulating the drone footage 'for public situational awareness' after the big fish was spotted. 'We are sharing this information promptly to keep the community informed,' police said in a statement. Fatal shark bites for humans are exceedingly rare. The first recorded fatal shark attack in Maine happened in the summer of 2020 when a great white shark killed 63-year-old Julie Dimperio Holowach of New York City. She was attacked off Bailey Island, around 15 miles (24 kilometers) northeast of Portland. The state responded with efforts to provide beachgoers with more warning about the presence of sharks.

We told of an ongoing feud between rival biker gangs has been raging for months in the wake of high-ranking BA member Laponder leaving the mob and setting Mad Dogs. ATTACK AFTER CRASH ORDEAL By Graham Mann GORDON Luke previously told of being attacked by a mob who burst into his home. The then 64-year-old told The Scottish Sun how he feared for his life when three blade thugs pounced in Linwood, near Paisley. Amputee Gordon - who had lost a leg in a March 2018 bike accident - thought he was a goner when the maniacs booted in his front door. Gordon said in September that year: 'I thought I was going to die. I was terrified. 'They were trying to get to me with knives. There's not much I could do because I'm vulnerable.' The biker club founder said they showed up after he was mugged by two crooks who'd offered to help with his shopping. He added: 'I'd bumped into the people who stole the money and said I wanted it back. 'My biker friends warned them to stay away then I heard kicking at the door. 'To do that to someone in a wheelchair is repulsive.' Tensions had earlier boiled when a 20-strong mob wrecked a motorbike garage in November 2023. An insider claimed Laponder then opted to switch sides as a pal was one of two men left with horror injuries in the ambush at Totally Spanners in Glasgow's Hillington. Our source said in December: 'Dan looked at who was running about with him and decided he'd had enough.' Police Scotland said: 'Around 3pm on Friday officers were called to a report of a disturbance in the Glasgow Road area of Hurlet, Glasgow. 'Emergency services attended and a 30-year-old man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with serious injuries. 'Two other men, aged 44 and 65, were taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, both with serious injuries. Enquiries are ongoing.'

Cyclist rushed to hospital after being struck by car on Edinburgh street
The news comes as a cyclist was left seriously injured after being hit by a car on Nicolson Street in the Southside of the city yesterday at around 9.30pm. A cyclist has been rushed to hospital after being struck by a car on an Edinburgh street. The horror smash that unfolded on Dublin Street in the new town of the capital is the third incident involving a bike and vehicle in a number of days. Police and ambulances rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the collision shortly before 6pm on August 12. Cops have erected a cordon while they carry out a full investigation into the crash, while the extent of the casualty's injuries remain unknown. A spokesperson for the force said: "Dublin Street is closed at the junction with Abercromby Place and Albany Street in Edinburgh following a crash involving a car and a cyclist, which was reported to us at around 5.55pm on Tuesday, 12 August, 2025. "The cyclist has been taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment. "Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use diversions in place." The news comes as a cyclist was left seriously injured after being hit by a car on Nicolson Street in the Southside of the city yesterday at around 9.30pm. Another woman was also rushed to hospital yesterday after being struck by a car during the same evening on Montrose Terrace. Around 5.20pm on August 11, police raced to the road after reports of a road traffic smash. The incident involved a car and a female cyclist. The woman was transported to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment. Inquiries are ongoing into the incident.
