In this new series, countdown to kickoff, we will be counting down the days by highlighting a notable Trojan who wore each number. Today, we take a look at legendary USC defensive lineman Shaun Cody.

Years played at USC: 2001-2004
Career highlights: Cody was one of the first massive recruits of the Pete Carroll era at USC. Famously, Cody and his father were set on him going to Notre Dame, but Carroll and defensive line coach Ed Orgeron were able to change their mind and convince Cody to come to USC.
The move paid off for both sides, as Cody became a standout on Carroll's early USC teams. Cody won two national championships with the Trojans, serving as a captain of USC's 2004 title team as a senior. That year, he was named a first-team All-American after recording 44 tackles and nine sacks.
After USC: Cody was selected in the second round of the 2005 NFL draft by the Detroit Lions. He would go on to play eight seasons in the league, four with Detroit and four with the Houston Texas. He recorded double-digit tackles in all eight of his NFL seasons, including a career-high 38 with Houston in 2010.
Cody currently serves as an analyst on the radio broadcast of USC football games. He is also a co-host of USC's official "Trojans Live" show, which airs weekly during football season (with some episodes during the spring as well).

Jones, who was best known for his time with the Cincinnati Bengals, was charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct and assault of an officer. Jones was booked in Kenton County Jail, just outside of Cincinnati, just before 2 a.m. He was released Saturday on $100,000 bond, and has a court appearance scheduled for Monday. Jones was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2005 as the sixth overall pick out of West Virginia, and later went on to play eight seasons with the Bengals. But his NFL career was often marred by legal issues: Jones had a series of off-field incidents, including involvement in a shooting in Las Vegas, in his first two years in the league. As a result, Jones was eventually suspended by the league for the 2007 season, essentially marking the beginning of the league's personal conduct policy. Jones officially retired from the NFL in 2019, but his legal troubles continued. Just before his retirement, Jones was arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct in a casino in Indianapolis. In 2021, he was charged with assault in Hamilton County, OH after punching and kicking someone in the head until they were unconscious. Advertisement Jones was also arrested in 2023 after an incident on a plane, and was charged with misdemeanor alcohol intoxication, disorderly conduct and terroristic threatening. However, the former cornerback denied those charges, saying at the time that he was just requesting a different seat so he could charge his iPad. He was also arrested last November after the Mike Tyson-Jake Paul boxing match in Arlington, Texas, and charged with public intoxication, assault on a peace officer, evading arrest and resisting arrest.

Texans 'offensive triplets' among the best in the NFL for 2025 The Houston Texans' offense is looking to respond with secondary options in the passing game heading into the 2025 NFL season. While C.J. Stroud and Nico Collins are considered among the best duos in the league, there are questions at the other receiver spots, plus the tight end role after a down year from Dalton Schultz. Running back Joe Mixon is coming off his first 1,000-yard season since joining the Texans, marking also the first 1K runner for the franchise since 2019. While dealing with a foot injury, he's expected to be back at full speed for the start of the regular season and remain the bell cow bruiser. The Texans might have questions outside of their star trio, but it remains one of the better units in the league entering the summer. Sports Illustrated agreed with the sentiment based on its rankings of all 32 trios for the upcoming season. Albeit not top-five, the website listed Houston just on the outside at No. 6. "The Texans didn't live up to their offseason hype, but their offense remains full of excellent weaponry," SI wrote. "Stroud had a bit of a statistical sophomore slump, but that's largely because the offensive line was atrocious, allowing the league's third-most sacks. Stroud still managed to throw for 3,727 yards and 20 touchdowns, while Collins totaled 1,006 yards in 12 games." Collins, who signed a three-year extension ahead of the 2024 season, was well on his way to leading the league in receptions and receiving yards before a hamstring injury sidelined him for five games. He still managed to finish with over 1,000 receiving yards and seven touchdowns while leading Houston in every category. Part of Stroud's "sophomore slump" was caused by the lack of consistent weapons. Collins wasn't the only receiver to miss multiple games, leaving the 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year out to dry. Tank Dell missed three games and likely won't return in 2025 after undergoing multiple leg surgeries. Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs was out after eight games because of a torn ACL. Mixon even missed three games that cost him a potential 1,200-yard season. He was one of the hottest running backs to begin the year, but an ankle injury had him miss a majority of September and early October. At his peak, there's no reason to believe that Mixon can't be a top-12 running back. The Texans could prove to be a one-year fluke offensively if Christian Kirk or one of the rookies step up, but at least the trio will keep pace in the AFC South for the meantime.

Aaron Rodgers is officially headed to Pittsburgh next season. The four-time league MVP officially signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday and will address the media on Tuesday for the first time following the team's first minicamp practice, the Steelers' senior director of communications Burt Lauten announced on X. Rodgers, 41, signed a one-year deal worth up to $19.5 million with incentives, which includes a $10 million guarantee, ESPN reported, citing sources. The news, first reported on Wednesday, ended months of speculation as to whether Rodgers would return for another NFL season or enter retirement after a failed two-year stint with the New York Jets. Rodgers addressed the rumors about his decision and his time with the Jets, during an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" in April. Rodgers' arrival solves the Steelers' quarterback problems – at least for now – after Russell Wilson and Justin Fields both signed with New York Teams. Now Rodgers will battle Mason Rudolph, who signed a two-year contract in March, for the starting position.
