2025 NBA Draft: Ranking the best guards in the class, led by Rutgers star Dylan Harper

Let's run down the top prospects in the 2025 NBA Draft by position. Here are the best guards in the class. You can also find the entire Big Board, plus a full two-round mock draft and scouting reports for every single prospect, in the 2025 NBA Draft Guide. Height: 6-5 • Weight: 213 • Class: Freshman • Age: 19.3 Advertisement Harper is a big-bodied lefty combo guard with NBA blood in his veins, as the son of Ron Harper, who was a 20/5/5 guy before winning five titles as a role player. Like his father, Harper has a high-floor with the skill, poise, and playmaking instincts to dictate the game at his pace. But the fate of his jumper will determine whether he's an All-Star or just one of the NBA's many solid guards. (Grant Thomas/Yahoo Sports Illustration) Height: 6-5 • Weight: 190 • Class: Freshman • Age: 19.3 Johnson is a clutch shot-maker who can catch fire from all over the floor, drilling step-backs and off-screen jumpers with ease. But he needs to continue developing his point guard skills while also honing his shot selection and dramatically improving his defense. Height: 6-5 • Weight: 205 • Class: Freshman • Age: 18.7 Advertisement Fears is a dynamic guard with a twitchy attacking style and a knack for coming through as a clutch shooter. He was one of college basketball's youngest freshmen, and it showed with his shaky decision-making as a shooter and passer. But he has a feel for shot creation and a handle that lets him get anywhere on the floor, so he may only need time to emerge as a star. Height: 6-5 • Weight: 205 • Class: Freshman • Age: 19 Jakučionis is a slick shot-creator with a creative passing gene and a fearless scoring ability, carving up defenses with crafty finishes, step-back jumpers, and jaw-dropping passes. But as a freshman he'd follow up those highlights with turnover brain-farts that derail the hype train. Height: 6-1 • Weight: 178 • Class: Freshman • Age: 19.7 Advertisement Richardson is a skilled combo guard with a lethal midrange game and a poised pick-and-roll feel, looking like he downloaded the experience of his NBA veteran father, Jason Richardson. Jase didn't inherit his father's height or dunk contest athleticism though, so his smaller stature could cap his upside. You can find the entire Big Board, plus a full two-round mock draft and scouting reports for every single prospect, in the 2025 NBA Draft Guide.

Former Mets All-Star pitcher Noah Syndergaard attempting MLB comeback with White Sox

The Chicago White Sox have signed Noah Syndergaard to a minor league contract nearly two years after the former All-Star pitcher last pitched in an MLB game. The White Sox confirmed to media Tuesday that Syndergaard has reported to the team's spring training complex in Glendale, Arizona. It's not clear where within the White Sox system Syndergaard will go from there. Advertisement Syndergaard, 32, is an eight-season MLB veteran who made his name with the New York Mets thanks to an imposing fastball and effective curveball that he leveraged with his 6-foot-6 frame. He made his MLB debut with the Mets in 2015 at 22 years old and was a starter as the Mets advanced to the World Series against the Kansas City Royals. He made an All-Star team the following season while posting a career-best 2.60 ERA with 218 strikeouts and 43 walks in 183 2/3 innings. Advertisement Syndergaard left New York in free agency ahead of the 2022 season to sign a one-year, $21 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels traded him that season to the Philadelphia Phillies. The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Syndergaard ahead of the 2023 season, then traded him to the Cleveland Guardians before the trade deadline. The Guardians released him after six starts. Syndergaard posted a 6.50 ERA with the Dodgers and Guardians in his last MLB season. For his career, Syndergaard has a 3.71 ERA and 1.196 WHIP with 928 strikeouts in 941 1/3 innings pitched. The White Sox are rolling the dice that Syndergaard can regain some of his previous form.

As Dillon Brooks exits, Tari Eason could seize larger role in Houston

'They love Tari Eason there,' ESPN's Brian Windhorst said after the Kevin Durant trade. 'He can be the guy that replaces Dillon Brooks as that key defender.' The Rockets finished the 2024-25 season with a 52-30 record and at No. 2 in the Western Conference standings, so the blueprint of that group is worth following as Houston turns its attention to 2025-26. After this week's blockbuster trade, All-Star and former NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) Kevin Durant will replace Jalen Green as the leading scorer, so that swap should clearly be beneficial to Houston's 2025-26 odds. But what about losing veteran Dillon Brooks, a key defender who shot nearly 40% on 3-pointers last season? That's where fourth-year forward Tari Eason could play an important role. 'They love Tari Eason there,' ESPN's Brian Windhorst said. 'He can be the guy that replaces Dillon Brooks as that key defender.' After being drafted in the 2022 first round, Eason's development was somewhat paused in his second and third seasons due to ongoing issues related to a stress reaction in his lower left leg. He played just 22 games as a sophomore and was unavailable for most back-to-backs during the next season, which limited the 6-foot-8 forward to a total of 57 contests at 24.9 minutes per game. But in 2025-26, two years removed from the stress reaction, the expectation is for Eason to have no restrictions. In addition, the LSU product could have every financial incentive to play well, since his rookie-scale contract will expire after next season (and it's unclear if he will receive a contract extension this offseason). At 24 years old, Eason should be entering his prime NBA years, and the absence of Brooks should give him an opportunity to step into an even larger role. It's up to him to take advantage. In three NBA seasons to date, Eason has averaged 10.3 points (46.6% FG, 34.5% on 3-pointers), 6.3 rebounds, and 1.4 steals in 22.8 minutes. With a long wingspan, relentless motor, and a keen eye for playmaking, Eason remains one of Houston's most active, versatile, and tenacious defenders, and head coach Ime Udoka will likely need to ask even more from him during the 2025-26 campaign. More: Rockets reportedly open to contract talks with Tari Eason, Jabari Smith Jr.
