The seven British players looking to make an impact at the French Open
Main-draw action begins on May 25, with the British contingent aiming to do significantly better than last year, when they failed to win a match between them.

What a start to the season it has been for the 23-year-old, who will go into the year's second grand slam ranked fifth in the world. Draper won his maiden Masters 1000 title in Indian Wells, reached another final in Madrid and has established himself as one of the most feared competitors on the men's tour. Draper is yet to win a match at Roland Garros but will be targeting a deep run.
The turbulent career of Raducanu shows no sign of settling down, with more coaching upheaval, up-and-down form and a distressing stalker incident so far in 2025. But she does appear to be gaining confidence on clay and her current informal partnership with coach Mark Petchey, while unconventional, seems to be working for her at the moment.

Boulter started the season with hopes of pushing into the top 20 but a minor foot injury was an untimely setback and she has since slipped to 38 in the rankings. The 28-year-old would be the first to admit clay is not her best surface, and she is still chasing her maiden main-draw win at Roland Garros, but she goes into the tournament boosted by a second-tier title in the French capital.
Another first for the Scot, who is still less than a year into his professional career but already closing in on a place in the top 50. The 23-year-old had never played a senior match on clay prior to last month but continues to adapt remarkably quickly to his new life and claimed the first top-20 victory of his career over Tomas Machac in Madrid.

Kartal's rise has not been quite as rapid as Fearnley's but a year ago she was not ranked highly enough even to get into qualifying for the French Open and now finds herself just outside the world's top 50. Having reached the fourth round in Indian Wells as a qualifier, the 23-year-old from Brighton made a strong Billie Jean King Cup debut for Britain on clay.

While Fearnley and Kartal have been rising up the rankings, former British number one Norrie has been heading in the opposite direction. Once a top-10 player, Norrie is clinging onto a place in the top 100. Now 29, he faces a tough task to claw his way back towards the top of the game but there have been a few encouraging signs on clay.

Burrage has entered the tournament using the protected ranking of 85 she held prior to wrist and ankle surgeries last year that kept her out for six months. She has found wins hard to come by so far this season and will feel a lot more comfortable when the season moves from clay to grass.

The German international, 22, is set to jet into Merseyside this week in order to complete a medical after the two clubs came to an agreement over the transfer of the highly-rated midfielder, with an initial fee of €135 million (£113 million) set for Wirtz, though add-ons mean the total fee could potentially reach €150 million (£127.5 million) if triggered. FC Köln in January 2020, paying just €200,000 (£170,000) for the-then 16-year-old. However, this will be tripled if he completes a move to Liverpool this month, with respected German sport outlet Bild claiming the German international will see his weekly wage increase to around £325,000 - £355,000 per week (£16.8million–£18.5 million per year). This would make Wirtz one of the highest paid players at the club, likely second only to Mohamed Salah (reportedly £400,000 per week). Mick Schumacher 's model ex-girlfriend has sparked rumours that she is in a relationship with Jannik Sinner after being spotted at the French Open final. The Italian lost one of the greatest finals of all time, with Carlos Alcaraz coming back from three Championship points to win the final three sets in a five hour and 29 minute epic clash. But despite falling short in the showpiece spectacle at Roland Garros, Sinner seemed to have a special fan in the crowd on Philippe Chatrier. Laila Hasanovic appears to have split with Formula One star Schumacher after both appeared on celebrity dating app Raya, with Sinner also parting ways with his former partner, Anna Kalinskaya, confirming he was single in an interview in May. Sinner was forced to deny rumours of a relationship in pre-tournament media for Roland Garros, after he was glimpsed in Copenhagen by a fan allegedly on a date with Hasanovic, as per an Italian entertainment outlet. It has been a whirlwind few months for World No 1 Sinner, who had a well-publicised - and much debated - three-month ban from the sport after reaching a charged settlement with the World Anti-Doping Agency following the Australian Open. Sinner had initially been found to bear no fault or negligence for testing positive on two occasions for banned substance clostebol, which infected the three-time Grand Slam champion after it was used to treat a cut on the finger of his then-physio. But WADA lodged their appeal against the International Tennis Integrity Agency's verdict in September, casting a pall over the sport as Sinner's position at the top of the ATP continued to look otherwise unassailable. In the end, a relatively short suspension was handed down, lasting from early February to the start of May.

Oleksandr Usyk makes retirement admission before Daniel Dubois fight
The Ukrainian has not fought since beating Tyson Fury for a second time last September and is set to return to the ring next month against Dubois Oleksandr Usyk has admitted he thinks about retirement but is targeting a stadium fight in his beloved Ukraine before hanging up the gloves for good. It is fair to say that the heavyweight star is is edging closer to the end of his career as he prepares to take on Daniel Dubois on July 19 at Wembley Stadium. Usyk - who holds the WBA, WBO and WBC belts - will put them on the line against 'Triple D' - the IBF champion - in the first ever four-belt heavyweight unification on British soil. The pair have already met before when Usyk went on to stop Dubois in the ninth round back in 2023. However, the fight was not without drama. Just before the midway point, the Ukrainian was sent crashing to the canvas due to a shot to the body. That said, it was later deemed a low blow - much to the frustration of Dubois. With just over a month to go until the contest, Usyk is currently preparing over in Spain. While he is giving it his all in training, the 38-year-old is thinking about life after boxing. He told The Ring: 'I don't think about retirement much but I do think about it sometimes. I cannot say now how many fights I've got left. 'Right now, my dream continues but I'm very grateful for my family and my team who are with me… But I still want to fight at the Olympic stadium in Kyiv. Now I have no idea who that would be against.' Next month's fight will be his first fight at Wembley Stadium. The 38-year-old admits it was always a dream of his to fight in a big stadium like Wembley. 'When I was young or at the start of my career I used to dream about boxing in a big stadium like Wembley or Tottenham,' he added. 'Now it's real. I boxed in a big stadium against Anthony Joshua and it was great, a big fight. But I don't visualise the fight now. My focus is just training, my rest. I'm not visualising the fight because when I go to London, when I step in the ring, OK I'll start. Now there's no need for it.' On the topic of the low blow incident two years ago, the Ukrainian is adamant that it was a 'dirty punch,' but is now solely focused on the task at hand on July 19. 'It doesn't frustrate me because I think it's rubbish,' he said. 'It's trash talk, it's rubbish. For me it doesn't matter because I know it was a dirty punch - now for me it's in the past. I live today in the present.' Ahead of the rematch, the two teams have already come to blows after Dubois' trainer Don Charles sensationally questioned Usyk's faith in God after accusing him of 'conning the boxing world' during the pair's 2023 bout in Poland. 'The actions you did that night, you've heard of the Oscars? You should've won an Oscar,' Charles told a press conference in April. 'You conned the referee, you conned us and you conned the boxing world. You pride yourself as a God-fearing man – 'Thou shalt not lie' – so I question what kind of God do you worship? The God has summoned you for our son Daniel Dubois to get revenge on you.'
