Controversies and Foreign Investments
WLF has faced scrutiny over its foreign investments and potential conflicts of interest. Chinese billionaire Justin Sun invested $30 million into WLF shortly after Trump's 2025 inauguration, and a subsequent SEC investigation into Sun was dropped. Additionally, a firm associated with the Abu Dhabi government invested $2 billion into WLF in 2025.
The company's stablecoin, USD1, launched in March 2025, has been used in significant international transactions, including a $2 billion investment in the crypto exchange Binance by Abu Dhabi's MGX. This deal raised concerns among ethics experts about potential conflicts of interest.
Partnership with Pakistan
World Liberty Financial recently signed a landmark deal with the Pakistan Crypto Council, a government-affiliated body aiming to develop the country's digital financial infrastructure. The deal outlines cooperation on blockchain innovation, stablecoin adoption, decentralized finance integration, and regulatory sandbox development.
The partnership includes advisory roles from global crypto leaders such as Changpeng Zhao (CZ), founder of Binance, indicating the ambition to position Pakistan as a significant hub in South Asia's crypto economy.
This deal is seen as part of a broader effort by Pakistan to accelerate its presence in the global digital finance arena. However, it also casts a spotlight on the Trump-linked WLF, bringing scrutiny regarding geopolitical and business interests intersecting in the emerging crypto space.

Ethical Concerns
WLF's operations have been criticized for blurring the lines between private enterprise and government policy. The New York Times described the company's activities as "eviscerating the boundary between private enterprise and government policy in a manner without precedent in modern American history." Critics argue that WLF's foreign investments and the Trump family's involvement raise questions about potential conflicts of interest and the influence of private business on public policy.

Film and television producer-director Vipul Shah-backed Sunshine Pictures, Lumino Industries and M&B Engineering have received Sebi's go-ahead to raise funds through initial public offerings (IPOs), an update with the markets regulator showed on Tuesday. The three firms, which filed their preliminary IPO papers with Sebi during January-February, obtained their observations between June 9 and June 13. In Sebi's parlance, obtaining observations means its go-ahead to float the public issue. As for the Sunshine Pictures issue, its IPO comprises a total offer size of 8.3 million equity shares, including a fresh issue of 50 lakh shares and an Offer-for-Sale (OFS) of 3.3 million shares by promoters, according to the draft red herring prospectus (DRHP). Promoter Vipul Amrutlal Shah is proposing to sell 2.3 million shares, while Shefali Vipul Shah plans to offload 1 million shares. The company plans to utilise the proceeds from the fresh issue to meet its long-term working capital requirements, allocating up to Rs 94 crore to support future growth and operations, along with other general corporate purposes. Lumino Industries, an EPC company specialising in conductors, power cables, and power EPC projects, is looking to mobilise Rs 1,000 crore through its maiden public issue. The IPO comprises a mix of a fresh issue of shares worth Rs 600 crore and an OFS of Rs 400 crore by promoters. The Kolkata-based company will use Rs 420 crore proceeds from the fresh issue to reduce borrowing, and Rs 15 crore will go for capex, while the rest will be used for general corporate purposes. M&B Engineering, provider of Pre-Engineered Buildings (PEB) and Self-Supported Roofing, plans to raise Rs 653 crore through its initial share sale. Proceeds from the fresh issue to the extent of Rs 63.9 crore will be used for purchasing equipment and machinery for the company's manufacturing facilities, Rs 60 crore for payment of debt, Rs 110 crore to meet the company's working capital requirements and the remaining funds will be allocated towards general corporate purposes.

SoftBank sells T-Mobile stake for $4.8 billion: How the mega share sale boosts Masayoshi Son's AI push

SoftBank Group Corp raised around $4.8 billion by selling its stake in T-Mobile US, a move intended to fund the company's grandiose plans for artificial intelligence. The Japanese company's founder, Masayoshi Son, is ramping up investments aimed at making artificial intelligence (AI) reasoning superior to human reasoning. All about the block sale The Tokyo-based technology giant sold 21.5 million T-Mobile shares for $224 each, pricing at the bottom of the $224 to $228 range in an unregistered overnight block sale, according to Bloomberg. The offering, which Bloomberg reported earlier, represents a discount of 3 per cent to T-Mobile US' Monday closing price of $230.99 per share. According to Bloomberg, Son is overseeing plans to invest as much as $30 billion in OpenAI and is also working with the ChatGPT creator to put hundreds of billions of dollars into data centres and related infrastructure around the world under the Stargate banner. Stock market reaction After the sale, T-Mobile shares fell 3.9 per cent in extended trading, while SoftBank's shares rose 2.1 per cent in Tokyo, reported Bloomberg. The deal is the biggest US stake sale since Toronto-Dominion Bank sold a $13.1 billion stake in brokerage firm Charles Schwab Corp in February. Sales of new and existing shares in US-listed companies reached $91.4 billion in the year to date, up from $75.9 billion in the same period a year ago, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The T-Mobile stake sale would be the latest example of Son following his past investment successes, such as an early bet on Alibaba Group Holding that yielded thousands-fold returns to fund new ventures, reported Bloomberg. SoftBank's ownership in T-Mobile SoftBank received the shares of T-Mobile after the completion of the US telecom company's $26.5 billion acquisition of Sprint Corp in April 2020. Later that year, SoftBank substantially reduced its stake in T-Mobile via a $21 billion deal that helped pay for a record buyback of SoftBank's shares. The stake offered represents about 1.9 per cent of T-Mobile's outstanding shares, according to Bloomberg. SoftBank owned 85.4 million shares or 7.5 per cent of T-Mobile as of March 31, 2025.
