Guernsey FC star Allen targets another season
Guernsey FC's record goalscorer Ross Allen says he will return to the club next season.The 38-year-old has scored 311 goals in 356 games and has been part of the Green Lions side since they were founded in 2011. Allen, who played in the Fifa Club World Cup for New Zealand side Team Wellington in 2018, is widely regarded as the best player ever to wear the Guernsey side's colours. He says the lure of Guernsey's new home at Victoria Park will keep him playing, even after the Green Lions suffered their first-ever relegation on Saturday. "I think for me the new stadium is a real draw and I would like to get at least one season there, especially now to help the help the group through a different league," he told BBC Radio Guernsey."It's just really exciting, I think with my coach's hat on as well with all the work we're doing behind the scenes with the Guernsey FA, we had Jersey Bulls youth teams over at Victoria Park to play some of our academy teams and that really excites me."It just shows that we've got some good kids coming through and I want to help some of them get to the stage where they're phasing straight into Guernsey FC and it's a nice transition for them to come into senior football."If I can still lace up boots and get the odd game here and there then that's really important for me while I can still do it and the body still allows me to do it."
Allen scored 16 goals in 31 appearances this season, including a run of scoring in eight consecutive appearances from the start of February through to April. It was his best goalscoring season since he claimed 19 goals in the 2021-22 campaign - although some way off Allen's pomp in Guernsey's first season in the eighth tier back in 2013-14 when he found the net an incredible 54 times.He says relegation out of the Isthmian League after 12 seasons is a chance to reflect, but also a chance to build for the future."Ultimately we are in a football pyramid. Getting relegated doesn't mean you stop existing as a club, it's just another chapter, it's just a time to reset," he added."We are a very unique club. If this was a club in the UK probably half or all of the players would leave, the coach would leave, it would be a total reshuffle."We've got that really unique situation where nothing really changes."We've got the same personnel and we could just roll into the next one and maybe blood a few younger players, get a few more players out there that maybe in certain games we just didn't quite give the minutes to this season because we needed a bit more experience out there."

Victor Osimhen has made his decision on a transfer from Napoli to Al-Hilal after receiving a mammoth offer from the Saudi Pro League side to join the team this summer Victor Osimhen has turned down a monumental offer from Al-Hilal to leave Manchester United with a renewed opportunity to sign the striker. The Nigeria international had been on the verge of a move from Napoli but ultimately chose to reject a deal that would have seen him earn £25.3m-per-season. Osimhen is expected to leave Napoli this summer and has a €75m (£63.2m) release clause in his current contract, available for teams outside of Serie A. The forward could not find a permanent move last summer after a transfer to Chelsea collapsed and ultimately moved to Galatasaray on loan. This month, Al-Hilal had agreed to pay the player's release clause, having previously seen a bid turned down. The Saudi team were hoping to bring Osimhen into the club in time for the FIFA Club World Cup but have been told Osimhen wants to remain in Europe, per reports in Italy. After proving to be a Napoli hero on the way to winning the title in 2023, there does not appear to be a way back under Antonio Conte who signed and placed his trust in Romelu Lukaku last summer. The team won Serie A without Osimhen's help in 2024/25. The striker nevertheless reminded everyone of his quality. Osimhen scored 26 goals in 30 appearances on his way to winning the Turkish Super Lig while on loan. The former Chelsea target was among those shortlisted by United as they look to replenish their forward line. Ruben Amorim's side have already completed a deal for Matheus Cunha, but missed out on signing Liam Delap, who opted to move to Chelsea from Ipswich Town. Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo is currently top of the club's agenda and won't come cheaply. The Bees are said to want £60m in return for the Cameroon international's services. And that could leave United short of funds and in a position where they need to sell before buying if they are still interested in Osimhen. It has been suggested that Rasmus Hojlund or Alejandro Garnacho could be utilised as a makeweight in any deal. Speaking on his future earlier this year, Osimhen was cautious over his plans. "A few months ago, nobody ever thought I would come to Galatasaray, despite how big of a club they are," he said. "I live for the moment. [As] for what's going to happen in the summer, I don't know. "But I want everyone to understand something: I really love this club so much. I love the fans, I love everyone associated with this club, from the president down to the coaching staff."

Let's get this out of the way as quickly as possible, there's no point in drawing it out and extending the agony. England were shocking against Andorra and if it continues the knives will soon be out for manager Thomas Tuchel. The 1-0 win in the World Cup qualifier in Barcelona was a dismal performance and, apart from Harry Kane's second-half winner, the best part of the match was the final whistle. To be fair, players stretched physically and mentally to their limits by increasingly long seasons and some being distracted by the imminent Fifa Club World Cup isn't helping matters as the beautiful game embarks on another chase for big dollars. That can't be used as an excuse to let the Three Lions off the hook, though, as they struggled to beat one of the worst teams in international football. England were jeered off the pitch at half-time after failing to score against the team ranked 173rd in the world and continued to struggle to create meaningful chances after Kane finally broke the deadlock in the 50th minute, receiving more boos at the end. They are top Group K with a maximum return from their first three games against poor opposition but matches like this underwhelming affair do little to spark enthusiasm for the international breaks which will litter the early months of the next Premier League season. There is also little to whet the appetite for Tuesday's friendly with Senegal at Nottingham Forest's City Ground and Tuchel will be scrutinising his players to see who is up for the challenge and ready to give everything even when the stakes are not at their highest. The former Chelsea boss wasn't slow to criticise his team as a whole against Andorra, admitting he disliked their 'lack of urgency', adding they 'lacked the 'seriousness' required for the occasion so an improvement in attitude should be clear for all to see against the Lions of Teranga, who drew 1-1 with Ireland in Dublin on Friday. At least that was an entertaining encounter, raising the prospect of more of the same against England and hopefully the hosts raise their standards and emerge 3-1 winners at 10/1 with William Hill, bet365 and Betfred. Craig Bellamy ready for reunion with 'testing' Belgium star - 'He was special'
Craig Bellamy spent time in Brussels cutting his teeth as a coach at Belgian side Anderlecht, where he worked with Manchester City's £55m winger Jeremy Doku - now they face off in a World Cup qualifier on Monday Wales boss Craig Bellamy returns to Belgium for World Cup action admitting that the 'challenging' Jeremy Doku made him a better coach at Anderlecht. Bellamy coached Doku during his time in Brussels before the player joined French club Rennes in a club-record 26 million euros move in October 2020 when just 18. Doku went on sign for Manchester City in a £55.4m deal in August 2023 and has made over 80 appearances, winning the Premier League and the FIFA Club World Cup in his first season at the Etihad Stadium. 'He's a great kid and I played a small part, a tiny chink in his development,' Bellamy said ahead of Monday's Group J qualifier in Brussels and a reunion with the Belgium winger. 'You have to understand his background (from a tough Antwerp area), the culture those players are from. 'His drive was insane, which I loved. You cannot treat everyone the same. He's different, but challenging different. "He taught me more how to be a coach than a lot of players. He was special on and off the pitch.' City boss Pep Guardiola claimed earlier this season that Doku is the best player in the world 'in the first five metres'. Bellamy shares the same appreciation of the 23-year-old, saying: 'He could lose you in a phone booth. 'I never had to apologise to so many under-21 coaches that a 17-year-old was playing – that's how good he was. It's like it wasn't fair. We can all spot ability, but I like the person more. I loved him as a person and still do. "He could test you as well, but I liked that. He's a special kid.' Bellamy enjoyed his coaching spell in Belgium between June 2019 and September 2021, first in the Anderlecht youth system and then as assistant to first-team boss Vincent Kompany. He said: 'I loved living in Brussels. It gave me a good step back, I was completely unrecognisable. No one had a clue who I was, which was nice. I enjoyed that peace. 'But it wasn't really Belgium. It was more Vincent. That was where I really learned football. 'So my memories towards Belgium go towards Vincent. My education on playing this game and coaching on this game really accelerated.'
