Big calls made on return of NRL stars Ezra Mam and Kieran Foran

Ezra Mam is officially back in the NRL, named to make his Broncos return in Sunday's clash with the Dragons at Suncorp Stadium.
Mam, who was handed a breach notice in December last year after pleading guilty to driving under the influence of illicit drugs without a licence following a car crash that injured three people in October, completed his nine-match NRL ban last week.
FOX LEAGUE, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every game of every round in the 2025 NRL Telstra Premiership, LIVE in 4K with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1. Limited-time offer.
The 22-year-old made his rugby league return in the Queensland Cup on Sunday and Brisbane coach Michael Maguire saw enough to bring him back into the senior side.
Mam has been named at five-eighth, replacing the injured Ben Hunt, and will partner Adam Reynolds in the halves against St George Illawarra.
It could be a timely return for a Broncos side that has lost four of its past five matches.
Titans veteran Kieran Foran will also be back on the field this weekend after a long lay-off, named on the bench for their clash with the Raiders on Sunday.
Foran, 34, hasn't played this season after injuring his bicep during the Pre-Season Challenge.
Mam's return has been somewhat of a debacle for the Broncos after he was sensationally booed by spectators at Magic Round when his face was shown on the big screen inside the stadium.
The 2023 Dally M Five-Eighth of the Year was available for selection last week after serving a nine-match suspension.
He was fined $850 and disqualified from driving for a period of nine months by the Brisbane Magistrates Court after his high-profile accident. No conviction was recorded.
Mam in December accepted the nine-week suspension and $120,000 in fines issued by the club and the league.
The news comes after Justin Hodges gave his view on Mam's form and fitness.
The Queensland State of Origin great watched on in his assistant coach role with Souths Logan as Mam inspired the team to a 66-10 flogging of Western Clydesdale.
'He was outstanding. That just shows the type of player that he is,' Hodges told Code Sports.
'He is too good to be playing here but obviously it is a privilege to have him. He is a first grade player. I'm pretty sure he will be back up there next week.
'Once Ezra gets back things should change (for the Broncos who have won just five from 10).
'You have a look at the success they had in 2023, everything came off the back of Ezra and Adam Reynolds steering things around.
'Look at all those little neat and tidy things he did like popping up with off-loads, kick chases, and scoring tries off kicks. You need that guy … once Ezra gets back he will give them that confidence.''

England vs India first Test: Jofra Archer injury, Ashes dates, highlights

Don't miss out on the headlines from Cricket. Followed categories will be added to My News. England captain Ben Stokes says Jofra Archer is 'absolutely desperate' to be involved in the upcoming home series against India and so revive a Test career that has been stalled for more than four years. Archer enjoyed a spectacular start with England in 2019. The Barbados-born fast bowler played a key role in the team's 50-over World Cup final win at Lord's and made his presence felt in a dramatic drawn Ashes series with Australia. For all his undeniable talent, a succession of injury problems have blighted the Sussex speedster's career. Archer played the last of his 13 Tests in February 2021. England have kept faith with Archer. He is due to make his first-class return for Sussex against Durham on Sunday as part of a plan that could see him feature during a five-match series with India that starts at Headingley on Friday. X SUBSCRIBER ONLY Archer's latest rehabilitation has been delayed by a broken thumb, although that did not stop the 30-year-old pushing for what might have been a rushed return in last month's one-off Test against Zimbabwe. 'He's been absolutely desperate to put the white shirt back on,' Stokes told a pre-match press conference at Headingley on Thursday. 'Randomly, a couple of times, he would just send me a text saying, 'Zim?' 'I was like, 'let's just hold it there, all right. I know you're in a good spot right now, but let's not just rush into it'.' Stokes added: 'He's obviously had a horrific time with injuries, but he's had some good amount of cricket, albeit in the white-ball formats. 'It's really exciting for England, but also more exciting for Jof that he's in a position now where we're able to have a plan in place and hopefully him get through something to actually be considered for selection for Test cricket.' X SUBSCRIBER ONLY Express quick Archer's return would be a boost to England's attack as they prepare to face two major rivals over the next seven months, with an Ashes tour of Australia following the India series. Were he to become an Ashes-winning skipper 'Down Under', Stokes would join a select group of England captains, although the all-rounder himself says he is not concerned by his place in cricket history. 'Defining a career as England captain isn't something that I sit there and really think about, honestly,' he said. 'If that's what I'm really bothered about, in my opinion it's just completely and utterly selfish and that ain't me.
