Lake Forest likely to be aimed at targets away from Goodwood
In November last year he claimed a lucrative success in the Golden Eagle at Rosehill, Australia, although this season he is yet to get his head in front across three starts.
He was last seen finishing sixth in the Criterion Stakes at York having started as the favourite, and while he holds entries at Goodwood it is more likely he will work towards an eventual return to the Knavesmire instead.
'He's grand. He has two entries at Goodwood, in the Lennox on the Tuesday and the Sussex on the Wednesday, but we don't know if we're going to take up those entries,' said Sean Graham, racing manager to Tony Bloom, co-owner alongside Ian McAleavy.
'We're thinking maybe of the Hungerford for him, which is a Group Two, and then the City of York Stakes, which is also seven furlongs and is now a Group One.
'He's the opposite to (stablemate) Sky Majesty in that he definitely wants quick ground.
'There will be an element of finding his ground so those plans are ground dependent as well.'

'He had the experience, and I think the draw helped as well,' said Balding. 'He was given an astute ride, as the stands rail was definitely an advantage in a big field with these younger horses. 'He'd shown a fair level of form in his previous races, but he's getting more streetwise and he was very professional today. 'We'll look at nurseries now and we'll find out more next Tuesday (when he is given a rating).' This daughter of Sea The Stars won an Ascot maiden over this trip in decent style on her seasonal reappearance. She flopped eight days later in a Listed race at Newbury, but it says something that she was pitched into that level so soon and, 74 days on, she's potentially capable of better with a handicap mark of 82 looking workable. 4.20 Goodwood – Class 2 Fillies' Conditions Stakes (5f; Racing TV) This can go to ZELAINA (NAP), who cost £650,000 in April and won a Nottingham maiden on her debut in June. It's her next start that makes her of particular interest, as she showed so much speed in the 5f Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, leading early before fading to finish eighth of 23. Down in class and on a less demanding track, she should be hard to live with today. 4.55 Goodwood – Class 3 Handicap (7f; Racing TV) It has taken a little while for DEFENCE MINISTER to find his form this year, but he was an encouraging second at Sandown on his latest outing and looks capable of building on that. His connections felt he was good enough for the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes last year. He found the company a bit tough and may have been unsuited by soft ground in finishing last of the six runners. But he's going the right way again now and this big-field contest should suit his strong-travelling style. Stall 12 is slightly wider than ideal but not a disaster. The final pointer is that James Doyle, retained rider for Wathnan Racing, has seemingly picked him over the owner's other two runners, who look to have fair claims from lower draws.
