Dracut man sentenced to prison after being charged with animal cruelty
A Dracut man is facing 2 1/2 years in prison after being charged with animal cruelty, police say.
Anthony Segnini, 36, was convicted of animal cruelty.
According to police, on December 11, 2023, Dracut officers were dispatched to a residence on Sunset Road for reports of possible animal cruelty.
A resident returned home from work to find her 8-pound Yorkshire Terrier, Seamus, unresponsive. Blood and feces were among the things found in the room where the dog was found. The resident then took her dog to Wignall Animal Hospital, where it was later pronounced dead.
Dracut police launched a subsequent investigation, which then led to a necropsy to be performed on the dog. This led to the reveal of numerous injuries that the dog had, including a brain hemorrhage, numerous bone fractures, and a collapsed lung.
The investigation had determined that Segnini, the owner of the dog's roommate, had hurt the dog.
Segnini was indicted by a Middlesex County Grand Jury in September and was arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court on Oct. 24.
Then, on May 6, Segnini pleaded guilty to animal cruelty.
Segnini was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail, with 9 months of that sentence to be served and the balance suspended for two years.
He was also ordered not to possess any animals, drugs, or weapons while on probation. He is also set to undergo mental health and substance abuse evaluations, to have no contact with the victim in this case, to complete an anger management program, and to complete an animal cruelty program.

Shooting in Dorchester leaves one man hospitalized, police say
Authorities are investigating a shooting in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood on Tuesday night. Driver killed in New Hampshire crash, state police say
A driver has died in a single-vehicle crash in Salisbury, state police said Monday. The identity of the driver is being withheld pending next of kin notification, state police said in a statement shortly before 6 p.m. Monday. Hours earlier, at 3:30 a.m. Monday, state police dispatch received a report of a single-vehicle crash on North Road, state police said in a statement. The caller reported that a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck had crashed into a tree and the driver was unconscious. When emergency crews arrived, they found the driver dead at the scene, state police said. Troopers and members of the Salisbury Fire Department and the Penacook Rescue Squad responded. Accused MS-13 gang member arrested after traffic stop in southeastern Mass., ICE says
A Salvadoran national who federal authorities say is an MS-13 gang member is now in federal custody after state police pulled him over during a traffic stop in Middleboro. William Alberto Villalobos-Melendez, 24, who is in the United States illegally, was arrested in Brockton on May 14, one day after state police in Middleboro charged him with unlicensed driving and using an electronic device while driving, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a statement on Monday. Federal officials on Monday released an arrest photograph showing Villalobos-Melendez, who is in handcuffs and wearing a green Boston Celtics T-shirt, with three federal officers. 'William Alberto Villalobos-Melendez has been illegally residing in the United States for almost nine years,' ICE Enforcement and Removal Boston Acting Field Office Director Patricia Hyde said in a statement. 'He is a validated member of a violent transnational street gang and poses a threat to our Massachusetts residents,' Hyde said. 'ICE Boston will not tolerate any threat that a member of a nefarious gang poses to our neighbors. We will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting criminal alien threats to our New England communities.' Officers with ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston working with agents from ICE Homeland Security Investigations New England and FBI Boston arrested Villalobos-Melendez, Hyde said. He will remain in ICE custody pending his removal from the United States. On June 12, 2019, a federal immigration judge ordered Villalobos-Melendez, who is a documented member of the notorious MS-13 criminal gang, removed from the U.S. to El Salvador, Hyde said. At some point, he came back into the United States and into Massachusetts. Hyde said he has been living in the U.S. illegally for nearly a decade. U.S. Border Patrol previously arrested Villalobos-Melendez on Oct. 11, 2016, after he illegally entered the U.S. near Hidalgo, Texas. Border Patrol determined that Villalobos had entered the U.S. without admission or inspection by an immigration official, Hyde said. Federal officials issued Villalobos a notice to appear before a Justice Department immigration judge, who later ordered him removed from the country. This is a developing story.
