Two injured in crash involving motorcycle on Fairview Ave in Chicopee
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) -Two people were taken to the hospital after a crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle on Fairview Ave. in Chicopee Thursday afternoon.
Chicopee Police Officer Travis Odiorne told 22News the injuries are unknown at this time. The intersection of Fairview Avenue and Springfield Street has since reopened following the investigation.

Motorcyclists take advantage of consistent warm weather. But unfortunately, that can bring a sharp increase in deadly crashes. In the last decade, AAA found that almost 60 percent of motorcyclist fatalities occur between May and September.
To improve safety on the roads, drivers must increase their following distance when driving behind a motorcycle, and also check mirrors and blind spots for motorcycles. If a motorcyclist has their turn signal on, wait to make sure they turn before passing them.
If there is a problem, Springfield police urge everyone to contact law enforcement. 'If you do run into a motorcyclist who maybe is having a little too good of a time and maybe not having the best thing in mind, leave them alone, let them go ahead on and do their business. Don't try to solve the problem on their own,' Springfield Police Superintendent Lawrence Akers told 22News.
Superintendent Lawrence Akers has a motorcycle, too. And his advice for motorcyclists is to be safe and follow the rules. In Massachusetts, there were 65 deadly crashes involving motorcycles in 2024.

Five injured after Taunton crash in speeding BMW
TAUNTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Five people have been injured in a crash following a high-speed chase on Route 24 on Monday. Mass. man arrested following deadly crash in November The Massachusetts State Police state that on Monday at approximately 4:00 a.m., a trooper assigned to the Middleborough Barracks saw a white BMW X5 traveling south on Route 24 at an estimated speed of more than 100 mph. When the trooper initiated a traffic stop, the driver failed to stop and continued to speed up to escape police. As the driver continued to travel south on Route 24, the driver was observed reaching a speed of approximately 130 mph. The vehicle then lost control and crashed in Taunton a short time later. First aid was provided to the five occupants inside the BMW. They were taken to local hospitals in stable condition. The investigation remains ongoing, and the charges have yet to be announced. Georgia gas prices still trending lower
The average cost of gas prices at the pump in Georgia is continuing its downward trend. According to AAA's gas price tracker, the price of a gallon of gas for regular unleaded is down another two cents compared to last week. Month-to-month, it's four cents lower and a full 43 cents lower than last year. AAA said that was almost $7 less than a year ago for the same refueling effort. NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – I-91 in Northampton will be closed between exits 23 and 26 nightly for work on new highway bridges. Cooley Dickinson Hospital's remodel boosts ER capacity by 40% Drivers will be detoured off I-91 to routes 5 and 10 in Northampton during overnight hours. From Sunday, June 8th through Thursday, June 12th, and again on Sunday, June 15th, the highway will be closed to traffic between 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Southbound traffic will be detoured at exit 26 (Route 5/North King Street) and travel along Route 5 south through downtown Northampton to the on ramp at exit 23 (Mount Tom Road). Northbound traffic will be detoured at exit 23 (Route 5/Mount Tom Road) and travel along Route 5 north through downtown Northampton to the on ramp at exit 26 (North King Street).
