Round 1 victory to Sabahans: Roketkini.com takes down false article

and Roketkini.com.
KOTA KINABALU (July 16): Less than 24 hours after legal action was taken, Roketkini.com, the
propaganda mouthpiece of DAP, quietly took down an article containing a false image that had remained online since 2013.
No apology. No correction. No explanation. Only 404 (means 'content not found').
The lawsuit, filed on 10 July 2025 by former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee, historian Stephan Gaimin and activist Asraf Amir, targets DAP and Roketkini.com for publishing and circulating false content that distorted public understanding of the 2013 Lahad Datu incursion.
The article, dated 24 February 2013, featured a photo falsely linked to the incursion in Tanduo, Lahad Datu.
In reality, the image was taken from a separate conflict in the southern Philippines but was presented as if it depicted the Sabah incursion. The image showed what appeared to be a full-fledged, well-trained military force. This misrepresentation caused unnecessary fear among the public and added to the confusion during a time of real national crisis.
A check on the DAP propaganda outlet on 11 July 2025, showed that Roketkini.com had taken down the offending page that concerned the 2013 Sulu incursion.
Now the original link (URL:
https://www.roketkini.com/2013/02/24/serah-kementerian-pertahanan-selesai-isu-pencerobohan-di-lahad-datu-bukannya-wisma-putra-kit-siang/) returns a standard HTTP Error 404, the usual result when a page is removed without redirection or explanation.
Whether the offending image was taken down on MCMC's instruction or voluntarily by DAP will be known as the litigation proceeds.
Recalling the International Arbitration Colloquium on the Sulu claim of about RM70 billion (USD15 billion) against Sabah, held at the Sabah International Convention Centre on 4 July 2023, Yong said he was shocked to see photos of the same incident in Sulu was portrayed as if it were from the Sabah incursion, projected on screen during a presentation by a senior lawyer from Kuala Lumpur.
Later, when reading a book published by Penerbit Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), titled 'Kedaulatan Negara Harga Mati: Pencerobohan Sulu dan Dampaknya Kepada Keselamatan Pantai Timur Sabah', Yong saw that the same photo had been reprinted in an academic context.
The Roketkini.com article eventually made its way into formal narratives. That confirmed how far the falsehood had spread and led to the decision to initiate legal proceedings.
'I decided on legal action because probably more people and organisations out there are mistaken in relying on the DAP propaganda mouthpiece, since DAP is a government party and the biggest party in Parliament,' said Yong.
'While we acknowledge the removal of the false content, this partial, Round 1 victory to Sabahans does not absolve DAP of the full extent of the damage caused.
'We demand a public apology from DAP for spreading fake news that not only misrepresented historical events but also led to widespread concern and fear within the community.
'Moreover, we insist on a formal undertaking from DAP to never again publish or allow such false or misleading content,' said Yong in a joint media statement by Stephan and Asraf on Wednesday.

Pandikar now backs Hajiji's move for GRS to work with Pakatan

KOTA KINABALU: Outspoken United Sabah National Organisation (Usno) president Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia has backed Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor's decision to go into an electoral pact with Pakatan Harapan. "I support Hajiji's stand in working together with any parties, so long as the deal benefits GRS in that the seats allocation ratio favours GRS," he said Sunday (Aug 3). Pandikar said that Hajiji discussed with him personally and assured that GRS would be putting candidates in more than 50 out of the 73 state seats. "This to me is a stand that is within the scope of the definition of the GRS's war cry 'Rumah Kita, Kita Jaga,' (Our Home, We Protect)," he said when contacted. Pandikar, along with Sabah STAR president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan and Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee, have been pushing for the eight-party GRS to contest independently in the upcoming state election. "I admit that I have amplified the voice of Datuk Dr Jeffrey, that whoever works with Malaya parties are traitor," Pandikar said. He said Usno's views expressed during political roadshows were to gauge Sabahans' opinions, and if they would support a local party if it were to go solo. "Whilst a reasonable number of Sabahans aspire for GRS to go solo, there are also many who expressed the opinion that total political confrontation with Putrajaya is not a wise move," he said. As such, Usno will remain in GRS to contest in the upcoming election and will support the decision of the GRS chairman to collaborate with any political parties in the election. On July 27, Hajiji announced that GRS will work with Pakatan in the coming state election and subsequently said that he had consulted with GRS leaders on the decision to work with Pakatan to ensure political stability. The SAPP president said that the GRS supreme council had not endorsed the decision and maintained the party's stand that GRS should go solo. Jeffrey has not officially responded to Hajiji's announcement to work with Pakatan, which is already working on an electoral pact with Barisan Nasional for the coming election.

SEMPORNA: Parti Warisan plans to cancel education loans, including PTPTN, for Sabahan students if it returns to power in the upcoming state election. Party President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the initiative hinges on a restructuring of Yayasan Sabah, with the aim of offering full scholarships when funds permit. He added that the relief would also extend to civil servants, whether still in service or retired, to ease financial burdens. Shafie made the announcement at the STPM Excellent Award Recipients Ceremony held in Semporna on Saturday. The proposal forms part of Warisan's broader effort to support education and lessen the cost of higher learning for Sabahans. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Nearly 30 DAP MPs visit Umno HQ, hosted by Zahid

The DAP MPs were at the Umno HQ for a briefing on TVET hosted by deputy prime minister and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. (Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : Close to 30 DAP MPs visited the Umno headquarters at Menara Dato Onn earlier this week, in what one leader described as a historic first for both parties. Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin said the MPs were there for a briefing on technical and vocational education and training (TVET), hosted by deputy prime minister and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Zahid also chairs the national TVET council. 'It marked the first time that such a large group of DAP MPs visited Umno's headquarters, a sign of maturity and cooperation within the unity government,' Chan said in a Facebook post. 'The Madani government is not perfect. But we are serious in discharging our responsibilities. 'We are working to overcome ideological and party differences for the sake of national progress. Nation-building requires unity, not uniformity, and that's the spirit we're committed to.' The DAP leaders who attended the briefing included the party's secretary-general Loke Siew Fook, adviser Lim Guan Eng, and vice-chairman Chong Chieng Jen. Also present were Umno vice-president Johari Ghani and secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki. Umno played a key role in the formation of the unity government, joining hands with its former archenemy, DAP, in the aftermath of the 2022 general election. In June 2023, Loke joined Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at Menara Dato Onn to attend that year's Umno general assembly, marking the first time that a DAP leader had attended the annual event. Zahid, Asyraf and Barisan Nasional secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir attended DAP's national convention several months later.
