Hearts approach Kilmarnock for boss Derek McInnes
McInnes looks destined for Tynecastle after three and a half years in Ayrshire.
The former St Johnstone, Bristol City and Aberdeen manager led Killie to the Championship title and then back into European football and they secured their William Hill Premiership safety on Saturday.
Speaking on Sunday, McInnes said on Sky Sports: 'I'm hearing that there may be contact between the clubs, but there's been nothing official yet from my point of view.'
Hearts have gone for a proven manager in Scottish football after the short-lived tenure of Neil Critchley, who replaced Steven Naismith in October.
Critchley became the second head coach to be sacked by the Hearts board this season after his team failed to make the top six and then suffered a home defeat against Dundee to raise the prospect of a relegation battle.
They have since won twice under the caretaker charge of Liam Fox to move up to seventh in the table but appear keen to get their new manager in place ahead of the close season.
McInnes produced consistently as Aberdeen manager, qualifying for Europe in all seven full seasons in charge and winning the League Cup in 2014, which remains their only major trophy since 1996.
The Dons finished runners-up in the league in four consecutive seasons, twice when Rangers were in the top flight, and lost three times in cup finals against Celtic. They also reached a further four semi-finals.
McInnes turned down moves to Sunderland and Rangers while at Pittodrie before leaving by mutual consent in March 2021 and taking over at Killie midway through the following season.
McInnes could get the chance to upset the established order in Scottish football again with Hearts fans considering a near £10million investment offer from Brighton owner Tony Bloom.
Kilmarnock face Motherwell in the Premiership on Wednesday while Hearts host St Johnstone. The Edinburgh side then travel to Rugby Park on Sunday for the final match of the season.

McInnes' last piece of business at Rugby Park could be tying up defender Robbie Deas on a two-year contract extension.
The former Inverness defender told Killie's website: 'I'm really pleased to be extending my time here at Kilmarnock.
'I've enjoyed my time at the club so far and I'm looking forward to building on what we've achieved and pushing on again next season. I feel like I can offer a lot more to this club.'

Manchester United's Profit and Sustainability concerns are set to be eased with one of their former academy players expected to be on the move this summer, just a year ater leaving the Red Devils Manchester United are set to earn a substantial transfer windfall thanks to former star Maxi Oyedele. The United academy graduate left the Red Devils a year ago for Legia Warsaw, having never played a senior game at Old Trafford. But he has starred in Poland, making 24 appearances in all competitions as Legia won the Polish Cup. That was their first major trophy since 2023, with Oyedele playing all 90 minutes of the final. Though he only joined last summer and has two years to run on his contract, the midfielder is attracting strong interest. Werder Bremen, PSV Eindhoven, Anderlecht, Club Brugge and a number of Championship sides are understood to be monitoring the 20-year-old. There is a release clause in his contract that means he is available for a tick over £5million this summer. There is a growing expectation at Legia that he will be departing the club after just one season. If he does indeed move on, it would bank United a healthy sum, which will go a way towards easing their concerns with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules. The Red Devils are hoping to be busy this summer and any fee received will be greatly appreciated. In a surprise move given he left just 12 months ago, United will benefit substantially from Oyedele's potential transfer. When they sold him last summer, United inserted various clauses into the deal. While they only sold him for a small fee, one of the clauses they inserted was a substantial sell-on clause to ensure future profit. That sell-on clause means that United are entitled to 40 per cent of any fee Legia receive for the midfielder. If he is sold for his release clause, it would see United bank just over £2m. That money would likely go straight into easing their PSR concerns, with a buy-back option also included in the original deal. A departure for Oyedele would come as somewhat of a surprise given his short time in Poland. Speaking in April, the youngster insisted he was happy with life in the capital city. 'It's just funny for my mum because she left Poland to come to England and make a life; I left England to go to Poland to start my journey,' Oyedele told The Guardian. 'Legia was the biggest opportunity. "I don't even think I realised how big of an opportunity it was when I heard about it. I felt like this was the opportunity to play in Europe, the biggest team in Poland. It's my nationality, so it's close to the national team. "It's always a risk to leave it, but it just seemed like the best choice. I couldn't afford to waste another year playing academy football. I could have stayed in England and continued my journey and who knows what would have happened." Donnarumma's agent has already ruled out one transfer as Man Utd talks emerge

The Italian goalkeeper faces an uncertain future with European champions Paris Saint-Germain. He has just a year left on his deal with the French giants and despite PSG chiefs attempting to tie him down, an agreement has yet to be found. That has opened the door to United, rivals Manchester City and Real Madrid. Reports have also suggested that that Donnarumma has been discussing the prospect of a move to the Premier League with his Italian teammates. Meanwhile, Donnarumma's agent Enzo Raiola has already denied that talks have been held with Serie A champions Napoli, who were also credited with an interest. Speaking to Radio CRC via Calciomercato, he said: "It's pure fantasy. I've an excellent relationship with Director Giovanni Manna at [Napoli], but we've never discussed Gigio. "It's an obvious question; many would like him, but only a few can afford him. He feels good in Paris, we're at the European champion club, so we have no complaints. We are working on a renewal [with PSG]." He added: "His mother is a huge Napoli fan, and she gets anxious watching their games. Gigio is connected to that.' Another side who have been linked with Donnarumma is former club AC Milan. The 26-year-old originally left the club to complete a free transfer to PSG in 2021. And Raiola has claimed that he would be open to a return to the San Siro. He said: 'I have never ruled out interest from the top Italian clubs, but there has never been a negotiation, let's see. He is still young, I have to squeeze him for at least another 10 years.
