Woolmark launches first dedicated Wool Lab Denim Edition books and toolkit
Woolmark has just unveiled The Wool Lab Denim Edition, in physical and digital form, which it says is 'a comprehensive resource for wool denim fabrics'.
And while denim is a material long associated with cotton, it added that wool-infused denim is in greater demand and is bringing an 'elevated sensibility to this timeless staple'.
The increased demand for wool denim applications is now reflected in its dedicated Wool Lab edition and toolkit. The Wool Lab Denim Edition is presented through two books is divided into seven categories – A Revised Classic, Special Treatments, Denim Shirting, The Denim Suit, Signature Denim, Thread Rebels, and Denim-Inspired Knits and Jerseys.
'We have seen an ever-increasing demand for wool denim swatch requests through The Wool Lab over the past four years,' said GM for Processing Innovation & Education Extension Julie Davies. 'The timeless appeal of denim is enriched with wool's skin-friendly softness, breathability, versatility, and durability, resulting in wardrobe essentials that transcend the ordinary.'
This dedicated Wool Lab features new blends – such as wool-hemp, wool-lyocell, or 100% extra-fine wool spun with premium fibres like silk, cashmere, or paper – 'offering unique benefits and applications for those on the cutting edge of innovation. Furthermore, wool's natural thermoregulating properties make wool denim suitable for all seasons, providing immediate warmth and reducing the initial chill often felt with cotton jeans'.
And the accompanying toolkit provides 'in-depth insights into wool's performance in denim applications, offering guidance on fibre selection, fabric construction, finishing techniques, and sustainability practices'.
Woolmark focused on the launch at Denim PV in Milan earlier this week, joining the event for the first time in a dedicated space that aimed to highlight the 'versatility and iconic nature of wool denim'.

In Vietnam, Macron aims to seize on ongoing reforms to boost French investments
French President Emmanuel Macron began a tour of three Southeast Asian countries on Sunday, May 25, in Vietnam. He is set to travel to Indonesia on Wednesday before heading to Singapore, where he will deliver the keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue summit on Friday. This annual forum brings together top defense and security officials from around the world. For Paris, the goal at the conference is to defend France's positions on the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, as well as to promote the country's strategy for the Indo-Pacific – a vast region in which the US-China rivalry plays out, with Southeast Asia as its epicenter. The Elysée has described this trip as an opportunity for France and Europe to assert themselves as "reliable" partners, who are "respectful" of the sovereignty of countries in the region, which have become "caught between US trade tensions" and "an increasingly assertive China." The visit was also about supporting concrete projects in the energy, transport, defense, and space sectors – in other words, offering French solutions to economies that are currently undergoing rapid transformations: Vietnam, a growth powerhouse with a population of 100 million people; and Indonesia, a demographic giant seeking to renew its momentum. Both countries have been eligible for Western (notably French) funding under the Just Energy Transition Partnerships, frameworks launched in 2021 to support emerging countries' energy transitions.
