'April 30 deadline set for 2024 income tax returns'
AMMAN — The Income and Sales Tax Department on Saturday announced that Tuesday, April 30, is the final legal deadline for submitting income tax returns for the 2024 fiscal year and for paying the declared taxes.
The department urged taxpayers who have not yet submitted their returns to expedite the electronic filing process to avoid penalties, stressing the importance of providing accurate information that reflects actual income, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Failure to submit a return will result in fines ranging from JD100 to JD500, in addition to a late payment penalty of 4 per thousand of the due tax amount for each week of delay.
The department clarified that individuals with annual incomes exceeding JD9,000 (for those without dependents) or JD18,000 (for those with dependents) are required to file returns, even if their income is already subject to monthly withholding.
Retirees receiving monthly pensions above JD2,500 are also obligated to submit a return for 2024.

These form part of a comprehensive strategy that includes initiatives such as launching the first integrated recycling center within the park this year, in cooperation with the private sector, as part of its multi-year strategy. He pointed out that implementing this strategy will be accompanied by a gradual shift from the traditional leasing model to a real estate development model— a strategic move aimed at enhancing long-term financial sustainability and achieving balanced, sustainable growth. This will strengthen the park's ability to attract investments and provide a comprehensive business environment that meets the aspirations of partners and investors. Regarding the development plan for the second phase of the park, Ezzeddin said that infrastructure work for the second, third, and fourth phases of the expansion project is ongoing, reinforcing the park's position as a key destination for business, investment, entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, and sustainability in Jordan and the region. The new phases will be implemented at a cost of approximately 8.5 million Jordanian dinars, covering an area of 266,000 square meters for the second phase and 196,000 square meters for the third. He added that the expansion project aligns with the development plans for the upcoming three phases, coinciding with the commencement of infrastructure work through signing agreements for the construction of a hotel and serviced apartments. Additionally, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to provide integrated support and enable independent access for this segment to various facilities and services. Ezzeddin indicated that the park is set to implement a comprehensive two-year action plan that includes rehabilitating existing facilities, developing sidewalks and entrances, ensuring all future buildings comply with relevant national and international standards, and improving public services to create a more suitable environment. He discussed the practical steps taken and ongoing to enhance the park's readiness to attract investments based on new investment directions and vision, focusing on 'how to attract investors.' The park today offers an investment vision based on flexible design and inclusive empowerment, relying on an integrated investment system designed to meet diverse needs. Among the measures adopted to achieve its goals, the park engaged an accredited international consultant to plan land use, identify possible investment types for each land parcel, and determine buildable areas and permitted floors, enabling it to accommodate investments of various kinds. The park also offers tailored incentives for investors, including tax and customs exemptions under Jordanian investment law, facilitation in licensing and registration in cooperation with the Investment Commission, and priority handling of government transactions within the park. Furthermore, flexible investment agreements are customized based on land characteristics and investor needs, along with financing facilitation offers in collaboration with several Jordanian banks. Founded in 2010, King Hussein Business Park is a developmental zone and one of the fastest-growing strategic business hubs in Amman. The project began as a visionary royal initiative to transform the park into a platform for innovation, business, and youth engagement for local, regional, and international companies. Ezzeddin stressed that transparent dialogue with the private sector is fundamental to understanding the business environment and addressing challenges that may hinder investment. The park relies on institutional mechanisms to engage with the private sector, including organizing regular meetings and participatory workshops with company representatives, investors, and business owners from the park community. He highlighted the use of surveys and opinion polls to measure satisfaction and identify major challenges, analyzing feedback to improve services, organizational structure, and infrastructure. 536,000 Customs Declarations Processed in the First Half of This Year Customs clearance and freight forwarding companies operating in Jordan processed 536,000 customs declarations during the first half of this year, compared to 445,000 in the same period last year, covering export, import, transit, and re-export transactions. اضافة اعلان The Omari Customs Center, which connects the Kingdom with Saudi Arabia, recorded the highest number of processed declarations at 130,887, followed by Aqaba with 95,493, Queen Alia International Airport with 86,747, Amman with 45,165, and Jaber crossing with Syria with 25,867. The remainder were distributed among other customs centers. President of the Jordan Customs Clearance and Freight Forwarding Association, Dr. Dheifallah Abu Aqoula, told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that clearance companies at all customs centers are witnessing significant activity, driven by cargo movements both into the local market and through transit and re-export operations. He noted that since the start of the year, there has been a surge in operations, prompting all 100 clearance companies at the Jaber Border Center to reopen fully and restore their workforce, working around the clock to complete customs declarations and expedite the flow of goods through the crossing. Abu Aqoula highlighted that the reopening of trade with Syria has revitalized the trucking sector, especially after the Kingdom eased restrictions and reduced fees on trucks and goods. He confirmed that there is an active flow of Jordanian exports to Syria, particularly construction materials. According to Abu Aqoula, 152,528 trucks crossed the Jaber Border Center in the first half of this year—whether loaded or empty inbound, loaded or empty outbound, or in transit—compared to 32,134 trucks during the same period last year. At the Omari Border Center, the number of trucks crossing during the same period reached 221,518, compared to 197,003 in the first half of last year. Clearance companies also processed 39,648 customs declarations for vehicles transiting the Kingdom during the first half of this year, compared to 23,880 in the same period last year. The number of incoming containers through Aqaba Container Terminal increased to 235,492 in the first half of this year, up from 193,214 last year. Outgoing containers loaded with goods for export from Aqaba reached 52,214, compared to 48,303 during the same period in 2024. Abu Aqoula renewed his call to reopen the Ramtha Customs Center for passenger, traveler, and public transport bus traffic, in light of mounting pressure on the Jaber Customs Center and the growing cargo volume passing through it. He added that the association is considering organizing a business forum before the end of the year for clearance, transport, and logistics companies to develop a joint action plan that strengthens ties with neighboring countries, especially Syria, to facilitate the movement of goods across Jordan. He pointed out that transport activity is expected to flourish this year following the reopening of export routes to Syria, Europe, and Turkey through Syrian territory. Abu Aqoula also praised the substantial efforts and facilitation measures provided by various official bodies, including the Customs Department and security and regulatory agencies at the Jaber Border Center, to ensure smooth truck movements in both directions. He emphasized the strong coordination and partnership with the association, as well as with chambers of commerce and industry. He affirmed that companies in the sector are fully capable of keeping pace with this growth and are working with relevant authorities to ensure the smooth flow of trade and enhance Jordan's position as a regional logistics and trade hub. There are currently 504 licensed clearance companies in Jordan, registered with the Customs Department, with 2,070 branches across all customs centers, providing around 10,000 jobs for Jordanians. The Jordan Customs Clearance and Freight Forwarding Association was established in 1982 and is registered with the Ministry of Labor with the aim of serving the sector, addressing its challenges, and enhancing the professionalism and efficiency of company employees. —(Petra)
