Morocco, Nigeria, Egypt and South Africa book FIFA U20 World Cup spots
Africa's four representatives for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025™ have now been confirmed, with Morocco, Nigeria, Egypt and South Africa all sealing qualification by reaching the semi-finals of the TotalEnergies CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The four sides booked their tickets following hard-fought quarter-final victories in a day filled with tension, drama, and high stakes.
Morocco were the first to punch their ticket, edging Sierra Leone 1-0 after extra time thanks to a late own goal.
The tightly contested match was decided in the 115th minute, ending Sierra Leone's impressive debut campaign.
Hosts Egypt joined them after a thrilling comeback against Ghana.
Trailing 2-0, the young Pharaohs forced penalties with a last-gasp equaliser and held their nerve in the shootout to win 5-4 and book a return to the global stage.
Nigeria, the continent's most decorated U20 side, advanced after defeating defending champions Senegal on penalties.
The Flying Eagles kept calm under pressure to seal their record 14th appearance at the U20 World Cup.
South Africa completed the quartet with a 1-0 extra-time win over DR Congo, thanks to Thabang Mahlangu's decisive strike deep into added time.
The qualification of these four sides maintains Africa's strong tradition at the U20 global showpiece, with each team now shifting its focus to the semi-finals—and ultimately the continental crown.
The FIFA U-20 World Cup takes place in Chile from 27 September to 19 October 2025.

The tournament will take place in Harare, Zimbabwe, from 11 to 20 September 2025. Group B has been labelled the group of death, featuring regional powerhouses Zambia and South Africa, as well as Madagascar and Malawi. Only the top team from each group and the best second-placed side will advance to the semi-finals. Group A is headlined by hosts Zimbabwe, who are the seeded nation in a pool that also includes Mozambique, Comoros, and Eswatini. Group C brings together 2024 finalists Angola, along with Botswana, Mauritius, and Lesotho. In the previous edition, the top three teams qualified for the final tournament of the TotalEnergies CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations. Taarek Refaat Egypt's junior squash teams continued the nation's reign over the sport, securing both the boys' and girls' titles at the Junior World Squash Championships, held at Black Ball Sporting Club in New Cairo from July 12 to early August. Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi attended the finals alongside Evyenia Sidereas, Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo; Zena Wooldridge, President of the World Squash Federation; and Amna Al-Trabulsi, President of the Egyptian Squash Federation. Speaking after the event, Minister Sobhi expressed pride in the young athletes' achievements, attributing the success to the unwavering support of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for Egypt's sports sector. 'This double world championship victory reflects the strategic planning of Egypt's squash system and its enduring global leadership across generations,' Sobhi said, adding that the triumph bolsters Egypt's ambitions for the sport at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The girls' team clinched their title after defeating Hong Kong 2–0 in the final, with the squad featuring Amina Arfi, Jana Galal, Nadine El-Hamamy, and Souhaila Hazem. The boys' team sealed their victory by overcoming the United States 2–0 in their final match. Representing Egypt were Mohamed Zakaria, Marwan Asal, Eyad Dawood, and Adam Hawel.
