HAL refutes report of stalled GE414 engine deal, says negotiations on track

(HAL) on Wednesday refuted reports that claimed negotiations between HAL and General Electric (GE) for the local production of GE414 engines have stalled.
HAL, in a statement, made it clear that the report was factually incorrect and misleading.
"An online article has inaccurately reported that negotiations between HAL and General Electric (GE) for the local production of GE414 engines have stalled, suggesting that HAL is now in talks with another engine manufacturer," the HAL statement read.
"HAL would like to clarify that this report is factually incorrect and misleading."
HAL reiterates that negotiations with GE are on track and progressing well, and that HAL is not in talks with any other company regarding engines for LCA MK2.

"Any information suggesting otherwise is incorrect," it added.
In June 2023, HAL and GE Aerospace had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to produce fighter jet engines for the Indian Air Force. The agreement was signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official state visit to the United States and it was a key element in strengthening defense cooperation between the two countries.
The agreement included the potential joint production of GE Aerospace's F414 engines in India. The MoU was part of the Indian Air Force's Light Combat Aircraft Mk2 program.
GE Aerospace has operated in India for more than four decades with wide engagement in the industry including engines, avionics, services, engineering, manufacturing, and local sourcing.
GE's presence in India includes its research and technology centre, the John F Welch Technology Centre at Bengaluru, which opened in 2000 and its Multi-modal Factory at Pune, which opened in 2015. GE Aerospace is a world-leading provider of jet engines, components and systems for commercial and military aircraft.

Reforms aim to give big boost to mineral sector: Kishan
Hyderabad: Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy inaugurated the National Critical Minerals Mission Outreach Forum (NCMMOF) at the Critical Minerals Processing Seminar at India Habitat Center in the national capital on Friday. During his speech at the inauguration of the forum, he mentioned that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, several reforms have been introduced to enhance the mineral sector performance in the country. These reforms have facilitated the transparent auctioning of mineral blocks and, in turn, increased accountability. The auction process for 34 blocks has already been successfully completed. 'We are taking further steps to auction additional critical minerals. In the past three years, the Geological Survey of India (GSI) has conducted a total of 445 exploration projects focused on critical mineral extraction. Funds have been allocated for 185 projects through the National Mineral Exploration Trust. We have signed bilateral agreements with countries such as Australia, Argentina, and Chile to facilitate the extraction of minerals from abroad,' he added. Kishan Reddy said the central government company Kabil has already begun extracting minerals from 15,000 hectares of land in Catamarca province, Argentina. In January of this year, the Union Cabinet approved the National Critical Minerals Mission with an outlay of Rs 16,300 crore. Additionally, central government companies will invest an extra Rs 18,000 crore for this mission. We are focusing on the extraction of critical minerals like lithium, cobalt, and rare earth elements, which are in high demand for promoting clean energy in the country. The union minister said that by 2040, the demand for critical minerals is expected to increase by four to six times. Currently, India imports 100 per cent of these critical minerals from abroad. The mining sector is continuously striving for self-reliance in the critical minerals sector. India has now surpassed Japan to become the world's fourth-largest economy this financial year. In this context, the sector is advancing towards meeting the energy needs required to transform India into a developed nation by 2047. The National Critical Minerals Mission plays a crucial role in ensuring the country's power security. The central government has decided in this year's budget to eliminate the import duty on 12 critical minerals, including cobalt powder, lithium-ion battery scrap, and lead and zinc. Collaboration among government, private sector, public sector, and academia is crucial to strengthen the critical minerals processing industry. The National Critical Minerals Mission Outreach Forum, which launched today, aims to unite various industries within this sector. This forum will provide an opportunity to raise awareness about the critical minerals industry and its impact on power and food security in the country. He urged industry representatives to invest in the critical minerals processing sector, as their involvement will help strengthen the mining sector in India. Companies such as Coal India Limited, Hindustan Copper Limited, and Singareni need to acquire blocks both domestically and internationally to commence mining operations.

Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government is working tirelessly with a vision to create a strong, self-reliant and self-sufficient developed country for future generations. While addressing the media during his visit to the BJP State Headquarters on Friday, the Minister noted that the Modi-3.0 administration will complete one year on June 9. Over the past 11 years, the government has operated with the motto 'Nation First,' aligned with the Viksit Bharat 2047 agenda. He emphasised that India has surpassed Japan and is now the fourth-largest economy in the world. Economists project that India could become the third largest economy, surpassing Germany, with a five trillion USD economy by 2027. Sanjay Seth urged BJP party activists and the public to actively participate in the Viksit Bharat agenda. He pointed out that previously, India was a major importer of defense equipment and had not achieved self-reliance in fulfilling a significant portion of its defense needs through domestic production. However, the country is now exporting defense equipment to around 90 countries. He highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the Indian defense forces demonstrated their valor during Operation Sindoor, which successfully destroyed nine terrorist hubs inside Pakistan in just 22 minutes. This operation showcases India's military prowess and the preparedness of its forces. Additionally, the Minister mentioned the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, which involves the mass plantation of saplings across the country. He said that Tiranga Yatras are being organised even in villages, as the local populations wished to express their support for the soldiers guarding the borders thousands of miles away. PM Modi says he will attend G7 summit in Canada
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Friday that he will attend the upcoming meeting of the Group of Seven, or G7, countries, following an invitation from his Canadian counterpart, Mark Carney, who is hosting the summit. The G7 summit, which brings together the heads of France, Britain, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States, is being held this year in Kananaskis in the Canadian province of Alberta from June 15 to 17. 'As vibrant democracies bound by deep people-to-people ties, India and Canada will work together with renewed vigour, guided by mutual respect and shared interests,' Modi said in a post on X. On Tuesday, the Congress criticised the Narendra Modi-led government, claiming that India not being invited to the G7 summit was yet another ' major diplomatic bungle '. Party leader Jairam Ramesh said that Indian prime ministers had regularly attended the summit. 'Before 2014, G7 was actually G8 for many years and had included Russia,' Ramesh said in a social media post. 'Dr Manmohan Singh would be invited for G8 Summits where his voice would be heard.' He added: 'For the first time in six years, 'Vishwaguru' will not be in attendance at the Canada summi. Whatever spin may be given, the fact remains that this is yet another big diplomatic bungle.' Ties between India and Canada have been strained since September 2023, when Canada's former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told his country's parliament that Canadian intelligence agencies were actively pursuing 'credible allegations' tying agents of the Indian government to the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar near Vancouver. Nijjar was a supporter of Khalistan, an independent Sikh nation sought by some groups. He was the head of the Khalistan Tiger Force, which is designated a terrorist outfit in India. India rejected Trudeau's allegations as 'absurd and motivated'. After extending an invitation to Modi, Carney was facing criticism in his country, The Guardian reported. Carney has, however, defended the move, saying it was important to invite the Indian prime minister, considering the country was the 'fifth largest economy in the world, the most populous country in the world and central to supply chains'. Carney was elected as the country's prime minister in March, when he replaced Trudeau, who said in January that he would resign as the leader of the party and therefore as the prime minister. During his poll campaign, earlier this year, Carney had said that his government would look to diversify Canada's trading relationships with 'like-minded countries' and that 'there are opportunities to rebuild the relationship with India'.
