Single-window system of Belagavi police to aid festival preparations
Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) has undertaken pothole filling and road repair works. The police department held multiple meetings with the office bearers of various Mandals to address their grievances.
Ganesh Mandals have planned to celebrate Ganeshotsav at more than 3,500 places across the district, including over 400 locations in Belagavi city. It is mandatory for Ganesh Mandals to obtain permission from the district administration to install public Ganesh idols.
Therefore, a single window centre was started in the city police commissioner's office premises in collaboration with the BCC, Hescom, public works department, fire department, and police department.
Environmentalist Sujith said that the use of PoP Ganesha idols should be gradually reduced, as they harm the environment. City police commissioner Bhushan Borase said in a release that permission centres will function from 2 pm to 10 pm every day.

It was decided to deploy police officers from outside districts, including KSRP and RAF. A police officer said that a meeting of leaders of various religions was already held in all police stations, instructing them to celebrate the festival peacefully.
Preparation in BCC jurisdiction
According to the officials of the district administration, Rs 18 lakh was allocated for the use of cranes for the immersion of Ganesha idols in wells. BCC has reserved Rs 48 lakh for the cleaning of Ganesh idol immersion ponds located in various places, including Old Kapileshwar pond, Kote Kere, and Kanabargi pond. The corporation has decided to close the potholes on the roads used for idol immersion processions.

No rift among Ganesh mandals, all decisions being taken collectively: Pune police chief
Dismissing circulating rumours of internal disputes, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar on Tuesday said there is complete harmony and cooperation among all Ganesh mandals in the city ahead of the upcoming Ganeshotsav. During the meeting, several Ganesh mandals raised concerns over late-night congestion and prolonged processions, urging the authorities to allow early and well-organised immersions. (HT) 'There is absolutely no dispute among any of the Ganesh mandals. Claims of disagreements or rifts are completely false and part of a fake narrative being spread on social media and elsewhere,' Kumar told reporters after a coordination meeting with mandal representatives. The commissioner emphasised that all key decisions—including immersion routes, procession timings, and related arrangements—are being made collectively, through respectful dialogue. 'We are in constant coordination with all mandals, including the five maanache Ganpati. Everyone is working together to ensure a peaceful and successful festival,' he added. During the meeting, several Ganesh mandals raised concerns over late-night congestion and prolonged processions, urging the authorities to allow early and well-organised immersions. A key proposal discussed was implementing a 'one mandal, one dhol pathak' policy to avoid overcrowding and delays. Mandal representatives also suggested that if the five maanache Ganpati begin their immersion early in the day—preferably completing it by noon—the rest could follow smoothly, easing overall congestion. In recent years, Pune's Ganesh immersion processions have stretched for over 20 to 30 hours, causing fatigue, mismanagement, and logistical issues. Some mandals also requested that their processions be allowed to pass early through Laxmi Road, a central immersion route, to help streamline the overall sequence. Kumar said, 'We have taken note of all the suggestions. After wider consultation, we will take an appropriate decision.' Shrikant Shete, president of the Kasba Ganpati Mandal, said the meeting was productive and all suggestions were received positively. 'All mandals are equal—there is no special treatment or discrimination. Numbers have been given as part of the system, and mandals participating on routes like Laxmi Road, Tilak Road, Kumthekar Road, and Shivaji Road will jointly take decisions acceptable to all,' he said. Mahesh Suryavanshi, treasurer of Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati, added that all mandals will meet again in the next few days to finalise arrangements. 'Pune's Ganesh festival has a long and proud tradition. We are committed to upholding that legacy and setting an example for mandals across the state,' he said. According to police officials, discussions in the meeting also covered the number of Dhol-Tasha Pathaks, VIP movement, and steps to curtail procession duration and manage crowds more efficiently.

MBBS, BDS counselling delayed; admission on hold
Chennai: State selection committee said there will be delays in the start of counselling for MBBS/BDS admissions as Centre's medical counselling committee has put the process for the first round of admission on hold. On Monday, when the first round was already in progress, the committee announced that "choice filling and choice locking for round-1 has been put on hold." State selection committee officials said they were neither informed about this nor given a revised schedule until Tuesday. "We will not be able to start the counselling unless Centre completes round-1," said a senior official at the directorate. Central committee conducts counselling for 15% of all India quota seats in state-run medical colleges across the country, Central govt institutions, and deemed universities. "The students will take seats allotted to them in the round-1 of all India counselling if they get a seat of their choice. If they don't, they apply to the first round of state quota," the official said. "MCC releases a state schedule along with its own schedule in the beginning. When it makes changes, there is no information or instructions given to state," the official said. State committee admits students to 85% seats in govt colleges, and all seats in self-financing colleges and state private universities. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like I lost my IT job & thought I'd never be in tech again. NGT takes note of illegal jetty construction on Chilika banks
Cuttack: National Green Tribunal ( NGT ), East zone bench, in Kolkata has taken cognisance of a petition filed by Maa Kalijaee Motor Boat Workers Union, alleging illegal construction of a concrete jetty at Garadwar in Khurda district on the banks of Chilika lake. The bench comprising Justice B Amit Sthalekar (judicial member) and Dr Arun Kumar Verma (expert member) has issued notices to the Odisha State Coastal Zone Management Authority (SCZMA), Odisha State Pollution Control Board, Wetland Authority, and Chilika Development Authority, along with the private company behind the project. The matter was heard on Aug 1. The petitioners, represented by advocates Sankar Prasad Pani and Ashutosh Padhy, alleged that the jetty is being built without CRZ clearance and violates environmental norms. The petitioner society represents traditional boat workers and fisher folk who have relied on Chilika lake for generations. After fishing rights were suspended in 2017, many of them turned to tourism for livelihood. They have been demanding construction of a jetty to support their work, but claim their pleas have been ignored. The petitioners pointed out that the construction site falls under CRZ-III A and CRZ-IV B zones, where stringent restrictions are in place under the Coastal Regulation Zone Notification, 2019. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Online & Flexible degrees BITS Pilani Digital Apply Now They argued that while CRZ clearance was granted in 2022 for a floating jetty in Satapada (Puri district), no such permission exists for the ongoing construction in Garadwar. The petitioners had submitted a complaint to the Khordha district collector on April 11, 2025, demanding that work be stopped, but claimed that no action was taken. Protests were also reported at the site in May, followed by media coverage, but officials allegedly remained inactive. The bench noted that the issue merits serious consideration and directed all respondents of the notices to file their replies within four weeks. The matter has been listed for hearing on Sept 15. The petition has also sought directions for immediate halting of construction, demolition of the jetty, restoration of the site, and exemplary costs on the private firm for violation of CRZ norms and polluting the lake with untreated sewage. The disputed jetty is reportedly part of a Rs 14.67 crore luxury tourism project approved in principle by the Odisha govt in July 2024, featuring houseboats, cottages, a spa, and an adventure park.
