Governor Healey to sign order supporting Massachusetts construction projects at MBTU event in Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – On Tuesday, Governor Healey will be coming to MGM Springfield to address the 106th annual convention of the Massachusetts Building Trades Unions (MBTU).
Governor Healey to promote tax cuts in Springfield before deadline
During her visit, Governor Healey will sign a landmark executive order to support the construction industry, to protect and support Massachusetts jobs, and ensure that construction projects are successfully completed on-time and on-budget.
The MBTU is a 106-year-old organization dedicated to helping working people improve their quality of life. It represents the interests of over 75,000 union construction workers across the Commonwealth. Union members through the MBTU receive family-sustaining wages, comprehensive healthcare coverage, and the security of pension and annuity benefits.
Governor Healey will be speaking at the convention at 11:00 a.m., along with Attorney General Andrea Campbell, Massachusetts Secretary of Labor Lauren Jones, and MBTU President Frank Callahan.

Average western Massachusetts gas prices hit $2.90 per gallon
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield's gas prices have fallen 3.9 cents per gallon over the past week. Springfield celebration shines light on local heroes, helping to make communities thrive Gas prices in Springfield have dropped to an average of $2.90/g, according to GasBuddy price reports after a survey of 257 stations in Springfield. The cheapest station in Springfield was priced at $2.69/g, and the most expensive station was $3.19/g. The highest price in the state was $3.69/g, a difference of $1.12/g. The national price of gasoline is averaging $3.07/g on Monday. The national average is down 5.2 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands at 32.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering more than 150,000 gas stations across the country. Holyoke schools join state career pilot program
HOLYOKE — The Holyoke School District is one of 14 chosen to join the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education's My Career and Academic Plan pilot program. The district received about $24,976 from the $281,000 in Work-Based Learning grants awarded to schools across the state last week. Gov. Maura Healey said in an announcement that work-based learning experiences are crucial for preparing students for the future. 'These grants will help support strong partnerships between schools and employers, opening doors for students in critical STEM fields like health care, manufacturing, and technology,' Healey said. The pilot program is part of the administration's Reimagining High School initiative. DESE will assist districts in integrating the program. It seeks to help middle and high school students focus on academic, personal, and career goals. In March, the Healey-Driscoll administration announced $914,385 in funding to 135 schools in 49 districts to help them adopt the career and academic plan. Over 200 schools in more than 150 districts have engaged in the program. Education Secretary Patrick Tutwiler said the goal is to connect academic learning 'with meaningful work experiences.' Grant recipients will team up with MassHire Workforce Boards and Commonwealth Corporation to create plans and resources to better link education with job training.
