Florida football adds FAU, South Alabama, Charleston Southern to future schedules
A few additions were made to Florida football's future schedules recently, according to FBSSchedules.com.
First off, on Sept. 5, 2026, the Gators will host Florida Atlantic Owls at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium for what should be Week 2 of the college football season. The contract for the UF-FAU matchup includes a $1.2 million guarantee for the Owls; however, there is also an escape clause in case the SEC expands to nine-game intra-conference schedules.
"It is understood that if the Southeastern Conference requires the UAA (Florida) to play nine (9) or more Conference games in 2026, the parties will negotiate in good faith for a mutually agreeable alternative date for the foregoing game that cannot be played, and the UAA shall still pay Visiting Team $600,000 in 2026 and the remaining $600,000 the year that the game is rescheduled, as financial compensation for the game," the contract states.
Then, for the 2027 campaign, the Orange and Blue are set to host the South Alabama Jaguars on Sept. 4 and the Charleston Southern Buccaneers on Sept. 11. The contract wrinkle in this one is the former is signed up for a $1.2 million guarantee with an equal cancellation penalty for the 2027 season opener; if the SEC moves to a nine-game schedule, the Gators would owe the Jaguars $250,000.
The matchup with FAU in 2026 will mark the fifth meeting all-time between the two schools on the football field, with the Gators dominating the series with four wins. However, the Owls pressed the issue in Gainesville during the 2015 campaign, forcing overtime before eventually falling, 20-14.
As for the Jaguars, the Gators have never faced them on the collegiate gridiron, though they were scheduled to play in 2020, but the COVID pandemic necessitated the cancellation of that game. On the other hand, Florida has faced Charleston Southern twice, earning 53-6 and 62-3 victories at home in 2018 and 2009, respectively.

Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting class is expected to continue growing this summer, heading into the 2025 season. As we've already witnessed under head coach Mike Elko, recruiting the entire country has not been an issue, with the team dominating the East and West Coasts, similar to former head coach Jimbo Fisher. This month, Texas A&M will host a wide range of elite 2026 prospects, which now includes four-star tight end Evan Jacobson out of Waukee, Iowa. Standing at 6'7" and 200 pounds, Jacobson is already an elite red zone target who thrives in the seam, possessing enough speed and twitch to outmaneuver smaller defenders. Playing in a run-heavy offense, which is very common in Iowa, Jacobson has been Waukee's most reliable receiving target throughout his starting career, thriving in the short game. At the same time, his size advantage has made him a sneaky deep threat. Like many tight end prospects, Jacobson will improve as a route runner once he enters a collegiate program. Cricket's biggest star, known as 'King Kohli' by his 300 million-plus followers on social media, was there in the infancy of the Indian Premier League in 2008 and had to wait 18 seasons to clinch the title with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After the six-wicket win over Punjab Kings on Tuesday night to end a dramatic, disrupted season for the world's richest franchise cricket league, Kohli slumped to his knees and cried. He retired from test cricket during the season, leaving his focus on the Twenty20 format at the IPL. 'I have given everything to this franchise for the last 18 years," the 36-year-old star batter said. 'I never thought this moment would come.' Young star emerges The 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi became an instant hit and set all kinds of records when he made his century. With some of India's biggest stars nearing retirement, he's being touted as the next big thing. Perhaps the biggest takeaway was the swift return of most of the contracted foreign players, especially for teams still in knockout contention. In some situations, where replacements were sought, the Board of Control for Cricket in India allowed teams to hire players short-term. Sri Lanka's Kusal Mendis, for example, got out of his PSL contract with Quetta Gladiators and signed up with Gujarat Titans for the remainder of the season. The big knocks While the league suspension will go down in history, the season will be memorable for some scintillating cricket — 200-plus totals were posted a record 52 times in 74 matches this season. The previous best was 41 in IPL 2024. Additionally, 200-plus was chased down on nine occasions. 2024 runners-up Sunrisers Hyderabad, who finished sixth this season scored the season's highest against Rajasthan Royals — 286-6. It also posted the highest successful run-chase, scoring 247-2 in reply to Punjab's 245-6. Bengaluru, which arguably boasts of the most passionate supporters in the IPL, winning its maiden IPL title was perhaps a marker of how well the season reemerged after the forced suspension. What's next for India? During the break, Indian cricket also took a giant leap toward its future. Stalwarts Kohli and Rohit Sharma had walked away from test cricket within six days even as the Indian selectors looked ahead to the tour of England which begins this month. Shubman Gill is the new test skipper and will lead India into a whole new era.
