Cheltenham is looming large on the horizon as betting sites turn their focus to the biggest betting event of the year, but before all that hullabaloo, there's still the small matter of Imperial Cup day at Sandown to enjoy.
Emma Lavelle's string have been rattling along at a terrific strike-rate since the turn of the year, and the in-form handler appears to have a healthy chance of landing the EBF Handicap Hurdle at Sandown.
The Wiltshire trainer has sent out 16 winners from just 60 runners since January 1 and both Silver Thorn and George's Lad (Sandown, 1.50) look live contenders for the valuable novices' handicap.
Slight preference would be for the latter who bolted up at Doncaster last time, thumping subsequent scorer Calimystic with ease, earning an 11lb rise in the handicap despite jockey Harry Cobden doing his best not to win too far.
Sadly, Cobden is claimed to ride Belliano by his stable, but Liam Harrison is an able deputy aboard a horse which remains unexposed at this trip.
I can't let Kepler's Law (Sandown, 1.50) run unbacked either, especially with former champion jockey Brian Hughes forsaking a normal trip to Ayr to head south.
Laura Morgan's son of Jack Hobbs won in a canter at Leicester at the end of January and clearly operates very well on testing ground, so conditions should be to his liking, and he looks overpriced on horse racing betting sites.

Go Dante (Sandown, 2.25) has been campaigned with the Imperial Cup in mind all season and looks primed to make a bold bid to repeat last year's success in the Saturday feature.
True soft ground would have increased confidence in the nine-year-old's chances, but conditions may well still be exacting, and the selection will have plenty of pace to aim at in the straight with at least three confirmed front-runners in opposition.
His latest effort behind Joyeuse in the William Hill Handicap Hurdle at Newbury hinted that he was approaching peak fitness, and he should relish returning to a right-handed track.
Goshen at home in Esher
Goshen (Sandown, 3.35) boasts form figures of 11243 at the Esher venue and has run better on both of his recent starts than his finishing position suggests.
Sent off at 33/1 on betting apps for his penultimate outing over hurdles at Sandown, Gary Moore's popular nine-year-old stayed on well to take third behind the front-running Red Dirt Road who dominated from the outset and got loose on the lead.
The gelding's subsequent display over fences in a warm Ascot handicap chase again highlighted he remains in good heart and this smaller field chase should really play to his strengths as his strike-rate in seven-runner fields or less is eight wins from just 22 starts.

ITV horse racing tips: Saturday – Chester, Sandown and York
It's the weekend before Royal Ascot but there's still some good, competitive racing, including seven races on ITV4 on Saturday (1.30-4pm). Our resident expert has a verdict for each of them. Ron Wood's selections: Odds provided by William Hill and correct at the time of writing. Stars denote strength of selection (maximum five). He came home two lengths clear that day and the runner-up subsequently won the Ayr Gold Cup. The selection resumes only 4lb higher than for that success and he has run well at York. He could also cope if there's a bit of rain – and the weather forecast is unsettled – so he seems to have a few things going for him. Selection: Aalto @ 9/1 with William Hill 2.05 Sandown – Class 2 Handicap (1m) There's still better to come from the well-bred CLASSIC, who has run respectably in defeat in both starts this year at Newbury, most recently in a race that didn't unfold to suit. Richard Hannon's horse has won at this venue and Ryan Moore rides him for the first time. As with York, the weather at Sandown looks a bit unsettled but Classic can cope with most conditions. 2.25 York – Class 3 Handicap (1m 4f) There's also still better to come from the lightly raced MY DREAM WORLD, judging by the way he stayed on when fifth at Ascot on his recent return from a 10-month absence. He raced off the pace in a slowly run race, didn't get a clear run and was not given a hard ride. Only the winner finished faster than him and he looked good value for finishing second. The selection is probably going to need further before long, but he should be better for that return effort and he appeals as worth siding with. 2.40 Sandown – Scurry Stakes (Listed, 5f) TOWN AND COUNTRY is still improving and this looks to be a good opportunity for her. She finished well to take second in a fillies' Listed race at Cork on her latest start and this stiff track should suit. The form of that Cork contest has worked out well since, with the winner finishing a close third at Group 2 level and the fourth winning a Group 3 prize at Newbury. Irish champion jockey Colin Keane, newly appointed as retained rider to Juddmonte, takes over in the saddle for the first time, which is no bad thing. Selection: Town And Country @ 4/1 with William Hill 3.00 York – Grand Cup (Listed, 1m 6f) On the face of it, ABSURDE was a little disappointing when selected on these pages for the Group 3 Ormonde Stakes at Chester last month, finishing third, one place behind the re-opposing Al Qareem. However, the ground was slower than expected, which blunted the turn of foot that is his main asset, and the winner that day, Illinois, is favourite for next week's Ascot Gold Cup. This Willie Mullins runner will want the rain to stay away, but he won the 2023 Ebor over this trip on his only previous start at York. He also won a Chester Listed race the only other time he was ridden by today's jockey Daniel Tudhope, whose quiet style suits him. 3.20 Chester – Class 2 Handicap (7½f) JOUNCY, highly tried last year including when finishing second in a Group 3 race on the all-weather at Kempton, hasn't progressed this season but he has plenty going for him now. On his latest outing, he found 6f against older rivals in a Listed contest at Salisbury asked too much of him, but now he steps up in trip and down in class for his handicap debut, plus he's back against his own age group. Consider also that the visor he wore when runner-up in that Group 3 race is fitted for the first time in this campaign, and he is drawn low around this sharp circuit. The booking of Hollie Doyle appeals as a good one for this course too. 3.35 York – Class 2 Handicap (6f) This extremely good three-year-old sprint handicap could hardly be any more competitive, so it's not one for a confident punt, but DOUBLE RUSH may still be underestimated by the official assessor. He won on his handicap debut at Newmarket when looking well in at the weights and his form is working out, so a 5lb rise doesn't seem excessive. It might be that the selection could ideally do with at least a bit of rain. It hasn't happened for her yet, as she has been too headstrong, but the way she ran on to finish sixth in the French 1,000 Guineas on her season reappearance – when hooded for the first time – was encouraging, and Ryan Moore now takes over again in the saddle. This step up in trip will suit Aidan O'Brien's filly, just as long as she relaxes enough, remembering that she's closely related to the same stable's 1m 4f Group 1 winner Content, who was also headstrong. But there's no doubt she has a serious engine. Selection: Bedtime Story @ 5/1 with William Hill 3.45 Hamilton – Class 2 Novice Stakes (6f) Five two-year-olds run in this one and, of the two of them that have form, Big Fun sets a decent standard on the evidence of his debut second at over this trip Pontefract. However, all of the newcomers cost a few quid and VINCENZO PERUGGIA, who went for 550,000gns as a yearling, might be best of the bunch. 4.00 Salisbury – Class 3 Novice Stakes (6f) Another field of lightly raced and unraced juveniles, so plenty of guesswork is required again. But maybe ORION'S BELT, a 105,000gns yearling who as the sole filly in the line-up gets weight from all 10 of her rivals, can make a winning debut. She's one of two runners in the race for Richard Hannon, and looks to be the stable's first string in a race that bears the title of the Happy 80th Birthday Richard Hannon Snr British EBF Novice Stakes. 4.15 Hamilton – Class 4 Handicap (6f) FUJI MOUNTAIN struggled over the minimum trip at Chester last time out, but he was drawn widest around that tight circuit in a Class 3 contest. He now drops in grade and won't mind if rain gets into the ground, with unsettled weather forecast. He was a non-runner at Chester on Saturday, when again drawn wide. This is his first start at 6f but it might suit him, given his dam was a Listed winner over this trip. Selection: Fuji Mountain @ SP with William Hill 4.30 Salisbury – Class 2 Fillies' Novice Stakes (1m 2f) This is another race with limited form to go on, as two of the five runners are newcomers. The form standard is fair but the two debutantes, both trained by William Haggas, really take the eye on paper and WUJJOOD, a daughter of Sea The Stars and the sole mount on the card for Jim Crowley, is just preferred to Mission Possible, who is by Dubawi and went for 725,000gns as a yearling. 4.45 Hamilton – Class 3 Handicap (1m 3f) KING'S SCHOLAR has won three of his last four starts, including both outings this term, most recently defeating a few of these rivals over the course and distance. The Ed Walker-trained four-year-old won't mind if rain gets in, so he looks to be a solid option. Selection: King's Scholar @ SP with William Hill Go to site > 5.00 Salisbury – Class 4 Handicap (7f) MAKES SENSE, a lightly raced maiden, has been headstrong and didn't progress after placing at Salisbury on his first two starts last year. However, this drop back in trip is in his favour, he evidently acts well at this course and first up for the campaign might be a good time to catch him. Selection: Makes Sense @ SP with William Hill Go to site > 5.15 Hamilton – Class 3 Handicap (5f) Keep the faith with SOLAR ACLAIM (NAP). He finished only seventh when selected in this column on the Derby card at Epsom last week, but his 7lb claiming apprentice, who doesn't ride him this time, made his move much too soon, the horse tanking on the outer of the pack – from the rear – to lead in the straight, before quickly fading. It was striking how easily Solar Aclaim made up the ground, albeit his exertions told, and there's no doubt he's in better form than his latest figure may suggest. There is a worry that this race could come too soon, only eight days on, but the drop back to the minimum trip is in his favour and any rain that falls will help him. Selection: Solar Aclaim @ 17/2 with William Hill Go to site > 5.30 Salisbury – Class 5 Handicap (1m 4f) SPECTACULAR STYLE, a headstrong son of Frankel, can come good on his first start for Ian Williams. The selection runs off a career-low mark, some 25lb below his peak official figure. Selection: Spectacular Style @ SP with William Hill 5.45 Hamilton – Class 3 Fillies' Handicap (1m 1f) LUNAR ECLIPSE was well beaten at Southwell on her reappearance but she should be able to build on that now another seven weeks on. This well-bred, lightly raced filly has some useful form, the step back up in trip will suit her and any rain will be in her favour as well. Selection: Lunar Eclipse @ 8/1 with William Hill 6.15 Hamilton – Class 4 Handicap (6f) CARGIN BHUI needs to do plenty more than at Musselburgh on his latest start, but the drop down from 7f looks to be his favour and he's handily weighted. He is 5lb lower than when beaten a short head over course and distance last June and this will be the first time since then that Joe Fanning, the only jockey to have won on him, has taken the ride. He won a decent handicap over this trip at Goodwood last summer, edging out Brioni, who he now meets on 5lb better terms, and this is the selection's first start on a right-handed track since then. Approval is also dropping down from Class 2, sneaking into this contest off joint-top weight. It's Royal Ascot next week. On his outing before that, he was second to a big improver who went on to win a decent handicap at Chester next time. Wheels Of Fire won a novice on the Lingfield all-weather, which is also a sharp test, on his only previous race over 5f.
