Officials must act sincerely in resolving public grievances: Collector
Anantapur: Anantapur District Collector Dr Vinod Kumar emphasized the need for sincerity and prompt action in addressing public grievances through the Public Grievances Redressal System (PGRS).
The Collector, along with Tadipatri MLA JC Asmith Reddy, received 461 petitions from the public during a PGRS programme held at the TTD Kalyana Mandapam in Yadiki Mandal on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, he directed all transferred officials to immediately report to their new postings.
He highlighted the newly issued guidelines which stipulate that government staff, including VROs, junior assistants, and secretariat employees, must not be posted in their native villages, mandals, or constituencies to maintain administrative integrity.
First-level and second-level gazetted officers must also avoid postings in their own constituencies or revenue divisions. He stated that the government has already issued orders to ensure that no district officer serves in their home district and assured that any issues arising from these guidelines would be resolved accordingly.
He also stressed the importance of prompt grievance resolution without delay, as directed by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
He announced that random inspections and sample verifications would be conducted to assess the quality and effectiveness of grievance redressal.
He said field-level officers must understand the correct process for resolving petitions and warned that officials would be contacted directly to verify the status of grievances submitted through the PGRS portal.
Various department heads and district officials, including the Joint Collector Shiv Narayan Sharma, DRO A Malola, and special deputy collectors, were present at the event. Senior officials from departments like agriculture, revenue, housing, health, BC welfare, industries, and others also participated.

GUNTUR: The State government has launched the procurement of Black Burley tobacco through Markfed, assuring farmers that every leaf will be purchased. Minister for Agriculture, Marketing, and Cooperation K Atchannaidu inaugurated the procurement centre at the Paruchuru Agricultural Market Yard on Thursday, reinforcing the state's commitment to agricultural welfare. Leading a farmers' rally from Paruchuru junction to the market yard, the minister inspected facilities and announced that HDR and HDM grade tobacco would be procured at Rs 12,000 per quintal, while HDX grade would be bought at Rs 6,000 per quintal. This marks the first-ever direct procurement of Black Burley tobacco by the State. Atchannaidu said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is prioritizing farmer support with subsidies, timely payments, and assured crop procurement. He noted that Rs 1,650 crore in pending paddy dues had already been cleared. The state has intervened this year to stabilize prices of chilli, mango, coconut, and tobacco. Farmers were urged not to fall for private companies' misleading promises and to maintain quality standards to meet export requirements. The initiative is expected to benefit farmers with over Rs 500 crore through five procurement centres across the state. Agriculture Special Chief Secretary B. Rajasekhar said the government aims to procure 20 million kg of tobacco, with the Chief Minister reviewing progress every two days. Markfed MD Manjeer Zilani Saman stated that procurement would be conducted online, with a 20% moisture cap.

Cabinet to press Centre for relief for mango farmers
Bengaluru: The Karnataka cabinet on Thursday decided to exert pressure on the central government to provide relief for the state's mango growers, who are facing severe distress due to a sharp decline in market prices during the current harvest season. Addressing reporters after the meeting, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil said the cabinet discussed the plight of mango growers, especially concerns raised by Ministers from Kolar, Chikkaballapura, Bengaluru rural and Mumbai-Karnataka region. 'There have been huge losses and the Chief Minister has been advised regarding providing relief. The CM has instructed Agriculture Minister Cheluvarayaswamy to discuss with the Union Minister once again,' he said. The state Agriculture Minister N Cheluvarayaswamy has been instructed to visit Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan in New Delhi if required and 'put pressure on the Centre to get as much higher relief possible'. Asked whether the state government has committed to providing any relief to mango growers, the Minister said, 'No, we are putting pressure on the central government and if our share has to be there in that, it will be considered.' Regarding CM Siddaramaiah's letter to his Andhra Pradesh counterpart Chandrababu Naidu to withdraw the ban on entry of 'Totapuri Mangoes' into his state, he said the issue was raised by Minister K H Muniyappa, but there was no detailed discussion on this. Siddaramaiah had also written to the Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Shivaraj Singh Chouhan last week, seeking an urgent Price Deficiency Payment and Market Intervention Scheme for mango farmers in Karnataka.

Stray dog menace in Kannur: BJP to launch protest
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) north district president K.K. Vinod Kumar has said that the party will launch a strong protest against what he described as 'criminal negligence' on the part of the Kannur Corporation and the district panchayat in addressing the worsening stray dog menace in the city. Mr. Vinod Kumar said fear had gripped the city, especially among children, many of whom were now avoiding school. 'People are afraid of walking on the streets. Hospital visitors, schoolchildren, and city residents are being attacked. Hiring of autorickshaws has increased out of fear, putting financial strain on common people,' he said. 'The Mayor claims it is not the Corporation's responsibility, and the district panchayat president washes her hands of the issue, blaming the Corporation. Both have failed the people. They should at least read the Panchayat Raj Act to understand their roles,' he added. Alleging poor implementation of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme, Mr. Vinod Kumar said that it was being operated with just a four-member team despite thousands of stray dogs in the district. 'The system must be expanded, and local bodies should act immediately to catch and shelter stray dogs,' he said. He also pointed to poor waste management by the Corporation as a contributing factor to the rising stray dog population. As part of the agitation, the BJP will organise a march to the Corporation office June 24, he said.
