Ex-cop, 2 policemen charged with taking RM20,000 bribe
Wan Nor Imran Wan Seman, Ahmad Rabani Rusnizal, and Shukre Rowi pleaded not guilty to charges of accepting bribes in the Ipoh sessions court.
IPOH : A former police corporal and two policemen with the rank of lance corporal were charged in the sessions court here today with two counts of accepting a RM20,000 bribe to withhold action against a suspect found in possession of drugs in July 2023.
Wan Nor Imran Wan Seman, 35, who now works as a lorry driver, together with Ahmad Rabani Rusnizal, 29, and Shukre Rowi, 37, pleaded not guilty to both charges before judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi.
As policemen attached to the crime prevention unit of the Merbok police station in Kedah, they are accused of conspiring to receive a RM10,000 bribe which was transferred from an AmBank Islamic account belonging to Azizi Norhafizi Abu Bakar, 37, to Rabani's Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) account.
The bribe was allegedly given as an inducement not to take action against Azizi for possessing methamphetamine. The offence allegedly took place at the BSN branch in CPI Kamunting, Perak, at about 3am on July 24, 2023.
For the second charge, they are accused of committing the same offence involving the same individual, amount of money, and location on July 25, 2023.
The charges were brought under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum 20-year jail term and a minimum RM10,000 fine upon conviction.
The court allowed bail of RM5,000 with one surety for each accused, who were also ordered to surrender their passports and report to the nearest MACC office every month.
The case is set for mention on June 26.

'We have received instructions from the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC). (He) will be charged in the Gerik (magistrates') court tomorrow,' Nor Hisam said in a Bernama report. The bus was chartered by UPSI students who had celebrated Hari Raya Aidiladha in Jerteh, Terengganu, over the weekend, and were travelling back to their campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak. It overturned at Km53 of the East-West Highway near Tasik Banding, Gerik, killing 15 students. The crash also left 33 others injured, including the bus driver, his assistant and four people in an MPV involved in the collision. On Tuesday, Sinar Harian reported that Bukit Aman traffic investigation and enforcement department director Yusri Hassan Basri had revealed that the bus driver had 18 outstanding summonses. He said 13 summonses were for speeding, three for not wearing a seatbelt, one for not having a third brake light, and another for involvement in a previous accident. Transport minister Loke Siew Fook reportedly said that based on dashcam footage from another road user, it was clear that the bus was 'speeding and overtaking' before it lost control and overturned.

Seberang Perai Tengah police chief Helmi Aris said initial investigations indicated that firecrackers were thrown into one of the houses, causing a significant explosion that damaged the targeted home and two adjacent properties. The ceilings and front yards of all three homes were damaged by the 1.05am blast. Two vehicles parked outside the affected homes were also damaged by the impact, said Helmi in a statement. 'The incident is suspected to be related to a debt. The suspects are believed to be two unidentified men who fled in a car,' he said. Helmi called on members of the public who witnessed the incident or have any information to contact the Seberang Perai Tengah police or senior investigating officer Assan Alimudin at 012-4418081. The case is being probed for committing mischief by fire under Section 435 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum sentence of 14 years in prison and a fine, upon conviction. The case is also being investigated under Section 6 of the Explosives Act 1957 for causing an explosion likely to endanger life or property, punishable by up to seven years' imprisonment, a fine of RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.

Manjung district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Hasbullah Abd Rahman, said the investigations are being conducted under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. He said the investigation was launched following a report lodged at the Manjung district police headquarters at 4.40pm yesterday regarding a Facebook post by an account under the name 'Khalid Yunus'. "The account published an offensive message about the UPSI students involved in the recent road tragedy. "We advise the public not to upload any content that may cause unease or disrupt public order," he said in a statement today. Earlier, it was reported that the Perak State Education Department had directed the district education office to prepare a full report on the teacher's social media post. Perak state executive councillor for education, higher learning, youth and sports Khairudin Abu Hanipah was quoted as saying that investigations found the Facebook account to belong to a teacher serving at a secondary school in the state. The teacher sparked controversy after posting an offensive remark that went viral and caused distress to the victims' families. On Monday, a bus carrying 42 UPSI students was travelling from Jertih, Terengganu, to the university's main campus when it collided with a Perodua Alza at KM53 of the East-West Highway in Gerik. Thirteen died at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries in hospital. The driver, his attendant, the other UPSI students, and a family of four travelling in the Alza sustained various injuries. ends
