Brewers hold off Dodgers again for 9th straight win
Shohei Ohtani hit his National League-leading 33rd homer and drove in three runs for the Dodgers. Tommy Edman and Miguel Rojas both went deep in the eighth to pull the NL West leaders to 8-7.
But then Ohtani's flyball died on the warning track to end the eighth, and Trevor Megill threw a 1-2-3 ninth for his 23rd save as Los Angeles lost for the ninth time in 11 games.
Milwaukee improved to 5-0 against the defending World Series champions this year, including a three-game sweep at home last week.
Peralta (12-4) wasn't particularly sharp, giving up four runs and five hits in five innings as his ERA rose from 2.66 to 2.85. But the Brewers tacked on three insurance runs to maintain the lead after the All-Star right-hander exited.
After the teams traded four-run rallies in the third, the Brewers took a 5-4 lead on Collins' 363-foot homer over the short right-field wall in the fourth. They made it 6-4 on Caleb Durbin's RBI double in the sixth.
The Dodgers pulled to 6-5 in the sixth when Edman snapped an 0-for-29 skid with a single and Ohtani sliced an RBI single to left.
Milwaukee pushed it to 7-5 in the seventh when Andrew Vaughn hit a two-out RBI single, and 8-5 in the eighth on Ortiz's homer.
Los Angeles starter Emmet Sheehan (1-1) allowed five runs and seven hits in three-plus innings.

Peralta prevented an even bigger rally in the third when, with four runs in, a runner on third and no outs, he struck out Andy Pages, got Michael Conforto to ground out to shortstop with the infield in and retired Edman on a fly to left.

ATLANTA (AP) — Rafael Devers was in the lineup at first base for the San Francisco Giants at Atlanta on Tuesday night, the slugger's first start at the position that he refused to play for his prior team, the Boston Red Sox. Boston traded Devers to San Francisco in June after his relationship with management deteriorated less than two years into a 10-year, $313.5 million contract he signed in 2023. The Red Sox signed Gold Glove third baseman Alex Bregman during spring training and asked Devers to move to designated hitter. He balked before agreeing to the switch, but when Boston first baseman Triston Casas suffered a season-ending injury, the Red Sox approached Devers about playing the position and he declined. Asked why he was willing to play the position for the Giants and not the Red Sox, Devers said he felt he had 'earned some respect' because of his production in Boston, adding that he would have made the switch if the Red Sox had asked at the beginning of spring training. Devers has struggled since the move to the West Coast, batting .219 with two homers and 10 RBIs in 29 games for the Giants, all at DH. He batted .272 with 15 homers and 58 RBIs in 73 games for Boston. A three-time All-Star, Devers is a .277 batter with 217 homers in nine seasons. The Giants took a six-game losing streak into their meeting with the Braves that dropped them to 52-49, 3 1/2 games out of a wild-card playoff spot. Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill vows to show ‘the best version' of himself this season
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — All offseason, Tyreek Hill has heard the clip of himself frustratingly declaring 'I'm out' on the Miami Dolphins after last season's disappointing finish. The Dolphins star receiver doesn't feel that way anymore. He regrets making those comments. And he said among his goals this season is to reveal a version of himself — a more subdued, mature one — that he hasn't shown yet in his career. 'I literally heard that all offseason some kind of way on YouTube shorts because my kids stay on YouTube.' Hill said Tuesday as Dolphins veterans reported to training camp. 'And I'm like, 'I don't want to put that out there for my boys to see.' Last season's outburst that included taking himself out in the second half of Miami's regular-season finale against the New York Jets was an example of antics the All-Pro receiver said can't continue to happen. He has since had talks with teammates and coach Mike McDaniel on how to be more of a leader moving forward, especially as he hopes to help the Dolphins deliver the playoff win that has eluded them for more than two decades. 'That's why this year, this whole entire offseason, I've been busting my tail,' Hill said. 'I told my dad, I said, 'I want to see what it looks like whenever I focus just on football, and I just focus on myself and family. Because I feel like I really haven't been giving the best version of me, of Tyreek, my whole entire career. … I just want to see what that version of myself looks like. I'm looking forward to it.' Hill is coming off one of his worst seasons as a pro in 2024. He finished with 81 catches for 959 yards and six touchdowns — his fewest receptions and yards since an injury-filled 2019 season when he played for Kansas City, and a steep drop-off from his NFL-leading 2023 season in which he caught 119 passes for 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns. He said he's finding motivation for the upcoming season in a few places, such as family. 'My kids are Justin Jefferson fanatics,' Hill quipped. 'They really enjoy Justin Jefferson a lot. I was talking to my son on FaceTime last night, and his mom told me 'One of the kids came up to him and was like, 'You're Tyreek Hill's son?'' And he was like, 'No, Justin Jefferson's my dad.'' WNBA set to quickly tip off second half of season after short All-Star break
NEW YORK (AP) — The WNBA tips off the second half of its season on Tuesday night with 10 of the 13 teams playing. One player who won't be competing for the immediate future is Caitlin Clark, who is recovering from a right groin injury she suffered last week. Clark missed Indiana's final game before the All-Star break with an injured right groin and pulled out of Friday night's 3-point contest as well as Saturday's All-Star Game. Clark told reporters on Saturday night that she had been getting treatment during the festivities, which also took place in Indianapolis. While she is improving, Indiana coach Stephanie White said, the Fever intend to be cautious with Clark, who missed 10 games during the first half of the season with three different muscle injuries. Players weren't thrilled having to play so soon after the All-Star break and hope to add more of a break in the next collective bargaining agreement that they are currently negotiating with the league. Atlanta has back-to-back games on Tuesday and Wednesday while New York and many other teams have three games this week. 'It's kind of the health and safety of it all,' New York's Breanna Stewart said. 'Players having time to rest and recover, but also if we want the product in the All-Star Game to be better we have to have time between games like there's no way that you're going to have a super competitive All-Star Game when we play Tuesday.' New York added some reinforcements for the second half of the season, getting a commitment from Emma Meesseman to join the team once she gets her visa. The Liberty also added Stephanie Talbot, who was waived by Golden State, strengthening the Liberty's bench. New York also got back a healthy Jonquel Jones, who missed the last month before the break to recover from a sprained ankle. The defending champion Liberty currently are second in the standings behind Minnesota. Strong ratings The WNBA 3-point contest and skills challenge averaged 1.3 million viewers Friday night, making it the most watched for that event ever. The All-Star Game, which wasn't extremely competitive with Team Collier winning 151-131 over Team Clark, drew an average of 2.2 million viewers Saturday. It was the second most watched All-Star Game, only trailing last year's contest. Power poll rankings Minnesota reclaimed the top spot in the poll from Phoenix after beating the Mercury last week. Phoenix dropped one spot. New York, Atlanta and Seattle were the next three. Indiana was sixth with Las Vegas and Washington following. Golden State, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas and Connecticut rounded out the poll. Player of the week A'ja Wilson of Las Vegas had 37 points and 10 rebounds in the Aces' lone game last week that was a 90-86 victory over Dallas. Other players receiving votes included Stewart and Los Angeles' Dearica Hamby. Game of the week Phoenix at New York, Friday.
