After 20 years in the spotlight, Aly & AJ Michalka are not just evolving — they're thriving. With their new album Silver Deliverer , the former Disney sister duo is embracing a profound new chapter within their music career, filled with transformation, reflection, and fearless artistry. 'Honestly… this is really my favorite piece of work we've ever put out, hands down,' AJ tells GRAZIA USA in an exclusive interview. It's a bold statement, but one that feels entirely deserved.
Silver Deliverer dropped earlier this month on May 2, following the release of their latest single 'If You Get Lonely,' and marks yet another powerful pivot in their ever-expanding discography. At once intimate and expansive, the record is a mirror of their personal lives — capturing the emotional weight of change, the beauty of resilience, and the deep bond of sisterhood that has always guided their music. A New Era of Sound: Recording Silver Deliverer in Topanga Canyon
The new album was crafted in California's Topanga Canyon with producer Jonathan Wilson, known for his work with artists like Father John Misty and Angel Olsen. The choice of setting was no accident — it became a character of its own in the record's creation.
'It was us living in a place together in Topanga Canyon during that time,' Aly remembers. 'It brought us back to living under one roof again… I remember that house and how it smelled and the food that we ate and the mornings that we took that were so just lovely and lazy, and there was no rush. Then we would just get to the studio at 2:00 or 3:00 PM; it was just heaven.'
AJ adds, 'I think the growth and just where we're at in life very much reflect the music we make and vice versa. Aly and I's taste, obviously, over the years, has evolved. We grew up, born and raised, in Southern California. We've been listening to bands like The Beach Boys and Heart for years, and that's always been a foundational reference for our harmonies and our songwriting.'
The result is a body of work that's sun-soaked, sonically expansive, and deeply rooted in who they are now — as artists, sisters, and women in their 30s. 'I just feel like it's meeting us right where we're at in our early 30s,' AJ says. 'I'm really, really proud of this record.' Deliverance Through Change: The Meaning Behind the Album Title
The celestial title Silver Deliverer isn't just poetic — it's deeply symbolic.
'When we were thinking about album titles for this album, we came upon this quite soon in the album making,' Aly says. 'From that point on, we just knew that that's what the record would be called… It felt like we were being delivered truly into this new place that we had little knowledge of, but we were just trusting in the process.'
She continues, 'I think that had to do with me becoming a mom, AJ becoming an aunt, me moving away from AJ and Laurel Canyon — because we used to live down the street from each other, and now I live a good hour and a half away from her — just a lot of things. And so we wanted the album title to capture what we were experiencing and going through.'
AJ adds, 'Her water broke on day two of pre-production, which was hilarious because he came two weeks early. Aly went home, lived with him for a solid week. I continued to work with the band, and then she came back and was able to sing parts and breastfeed him while she was in the studio. He had on his little headphones… it was really magical.'
'It was truly two babies at once,' Aly shares from the heart. Photo courtesy of Aly & AJ Breaking the Rules: Creative Risks and Musical Freedom
What makes Silver Deliverer especially powerful is its willingness to break the mold. The sisters embraced a less structured approach to songwriting and production, guided by trust in Wilson and themselves.
'We really trusted [Wilson] in his process, which was definitely a different process from past producers we had worked with,' Aly explains. 'But I think the thing that we embraced on this album was more solos and more instrumental moments on the record… We just really threw [structure of pop music] out the window… That was, I think, the most exciting part of making this record.'
AJ echoes the sentiment: 'We didn't really lead with any fear or doubt because Jonathan was so confident… The album we wanted to make was there, and it was literally just ours to reach.' A Love Letter to Sisterhood: 'I Don't Know What It Is'
One of the most emotionally resonant songs on the album, 'I Don't Know What It Is,' explores Aly's move away from LA and the ripple effect that had on their relationship.
'I think for me, 'I Don't Know What It Is' really hits hard because it is the song that represents Aly's move and the change in season of not living together or near each other as sisters anymore. Our whole lives has right down the street from each other, if not in the same house,' AJ says. 'It's made me realize that when I'm down there, the time is so important… Those moments are really important to me.'
Aly adds, 'We've never really written about a subject matter in that way… The fact that we were writing about a thing, like a home, I think it makes that song just specifically very interesting.' Healing Through Music: Aging, Motherhood, and Letting Go
Themes of self-acceptance and growth are woven throughout the album, especially in songs like 'What It Feels Like.'
''What It Feels Like' has really taught me… those things like your clothing fitting a little differently, your skin changing, your hair looking different when you pose — those things are really beautiful,' AJ shares. 'I wish as a younger kid I knew that that was coming because I would have told myself, 'You are going to have to embrace getting older and it's okay. Those things aren't going to change who you are as a person or change your DNA. They don't matter. They're surface things.''
As a new mother, Aly's perspective has also shifted: 'You just can't get to everything. You're just going to maybe have laundry that's just sitting there for five days… But you have a kid, and you've got to interact with them, and that's alright… The world kind of spins on, and it's not that big of a deal.' Looking Back with New Eyes: The Legacy of 'Rush' and 'No One'
Even their earlier songs have taken on new meaning in adulthood.
'If I'm going to go back to a song… a song like 'No One,' which is so much about embracing being yourself and loving yourself… I think that's a really beautiful message to listen to now as a woman,' Aly reflects.
AJ agrees, saying 'Rush' has become an anthem in unexpected ways. 'I really feel like the lyrics really represent a time and a place in a teenager's life, or whatever age you might be, accepting yourself who you are, being every color that you are. It also really represents our fandom,' she continues. 'They all become friends. They're all from different backgrounds, but they all somehow have this thing in common, and it's our music.' Photo courtesy of Aly & AJ Reintroducing Themselves: Aly & AJ on Call Her Daddy
Their recent appearance on Call Her Daddy reconnected them with fans old and new — and on their own terms.
'At that point, we become in command because we're here to tell our story,' AJ says. 'We had a lot of feedback from fans that didn't know we were back… And then feedback from fans who were like, 'I followed every phase.''
Aly adds, 'It was fun to be able to talk with another girl that is so in the zeitgeist and so a part of pop culture… It's always great to be stopped on the street by people that are like, 'I loved your Call Her Daddy podcast.'' Life on the Road: Tour Rituals and Staying Grounded
With a fall tour planned to support the album, Aly & AJ are ready to hit the road again — but not without their grounding rituals.
'Our number one thing on tour is rest,' AJ says. 'We really make [the bus] our sanctuary… We decorate our bunks. We make sure the kitchen is stocked with healthy foods.'
They even still do their signature handshake before shows. 'It used to be insanely long,' AJ laughs. 'We've now shortened [it]… and then just a little bit of quiet time, a little bit of prayer… That's also a really comforting place for us.' The Message Behind the Music: What They Hope Fans Take Away
At the heart of Silver Deliverer is the hope that listeners feel seen.
'I hope that people listen to this record and feel like, 'Oh, wow, I feel very centered in who I am as an adult. Even if I haven't reached exactly who I'm going to be, I'm on my way there,'' AJ says.
Aly echoes this beautifully: 'I hope that people find a song that they really connect with, that they feel was literally written for them… I do feel like there's a song on this record for everyone.' A Legacy Rewritten in Real Time
Two decades into their musical careers — with this summer marking the 20th anniversary of their iconic debut album, Into the Rush — Aly & AJ aren't chasing trends. They're creating music that reflects the women they've become — and the world they're helping to shape. Silver Deliverer isn't just a new album. It's a living, breathing journal of change, grace, and growth.
And for longtime fans and first-time listeners alike, it's an invitation to come along for the ride.

Selena Gomez Teases New Looks From Season 5 Of 'Only Murders In The Building'

Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short are seen on the set of the TV series 'Only Murders in the Building' on May 07, 2025 in New York City. (Photo by Jose Perez/Bauer-Griffin/GC Images) Selena Gomez returned to the Upper West Side this week—on set, at least—offering a first glimpse at the fashion of Only Murders in the Building 's fifth season. Filming in New York City on June 9, the singer-actor teased two distinct looks that hint at the evolving aesthetic of her character, Mabel Mora, whose wardrobe has become a character of the show in its own right. The first look, from back in May, saw Gomez lean into a stealthy heist style with a long-sleeve turtleneck layered under a faux leather shirt-dress by Nanushka, opaque black tights, heeled boots by Paul Andrew and a roomy quilted Prada tote. Later, she was photographed wearing a bright blue leather coat over the top. Selena Gomez is seen on the set of the TV series 'Only Murders in the Building' on May 07, 2025 in New York City. Dressed in a noir, faux-leather coat by A.W.A.K.E. Mode, studded with silver snap buttons all over, Gomez's Mabel looked ready for another day of sleuthing—this time with a polished edge. Navy blue suede boots by Jeffrey Campbell also featured white stripes on the side, and dangling silver earrings completed the look, evoking a slightly moodier prep aesthetic. While not much has been shared regarding season five's plot, photos from the show's set promise even more sartorial intrigue—and A-list cameos, too. Expect appearances from Renée Zellweger, Diane Wiest, Bobby Cannavale and Téa Leoni alongside the beloved trio of Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short, and Meryl Streep. Horoscopes June 9-15: Are You Ready For A Vibe Shift?

Horoscopes June 9-15, 2025. Ready for a vibe shift? This week we're getting a sensitive software update, as Jupiter, the planet of expansion and good vibes, wades into the zodiac's cosiest space, Cancer—the first time it's been there since 2014. It's a vibe change in the true sense of the word—like someone switching the playlist at a party. Fewer crowd-pleasing bangers, slower and more soulful chill. But beyond the comforting, low-fi vibes, there is some BIG healing on your dance card over the next 12 months, especially if you are Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn rising. Adding to the sensitive vibe, Mercury also enters Cancer this week. This could make for some passive-aggressive comms over the next four weeks, so be aware when dealing with any kind of confrontation. Elsewhere in the sky, Venus is still doing quiet luxury in Taurus, which should help smooth out any prickliness. ARIES AND ARIES RISING Looking to move up in the world? Big upgrades around your home and family are on the cards as Jupiter moves into your domestic sphere this week. Over the coming 12 months, there's a good chance you will redefine your idea of home, upgrade your space or find a new level of understanding or forgiveness for your parents. The full moon might test your patience midweek, especially if you're travelling. Pick your battles and try not to sweat the small stuff. No one ever got bumped up to business off the back of losing their cool. TAURUS & TAURUS RISING With Venus luxuriating in your home sign, you're feeling cool, calm and collected despite the big feels overwhelming pretty much everyone else. Hold on to that feeling, and you'll navigate the changing tides like a pro. Mid-week, the full moon could bring a moment of realisation around cash, boundaries or something you'd usually rather sweep under the carpet. Be OK with saying 'no'—not everyone deserves access to you all the time. GEMINI & GEMINI RISING The full moon on Wednesday suggests someone close to you could stretch the friendship. It may not be easy, but be prepared to enforce a boundary. Elsewhere, you'll feel the change this week as Jupiter leaves your home sign and settles into the next. It's a great time to take stock of all the leaps and bounds you've made over the past 12 months. Learning, personal growth, maybe even some low-key makeovers have made this a year to remember. Dive into your camera roll and take time to bask in the high points. CANCER & CANCER RISING Pop a bottle because you're entering a glorious 12-month period where things are going to feel more optimistic, more easeful and more you. With Jupiter in your sign, you're starting a year long stretch of opportunity, expansion, and 'yes' that should feel bloody excellent. Get ready for the upgrades and be prepared for things to feel buzzier than they have in years. Midweek, the full moon looks fractious for work. Don't take the bait when co-workers or direct reports stir the pot. It's so not worth it. LEO & LEO RISING Spiritual awakening, anyone? Maybe it's not the flavour of experience you usually reach for, but that's definitely the feel of this new 12-month cycle. Kicking off this week, this year-long period could mark a massive internal shift that sees you questioning everything close to you and seeking meaning in things more profound. Don't try to force it. This is the kind of upgrade that happens effortlessly. Just follow the breadcrumbs. On Wednesday, a full moon in Sagittarius suggests a group outing could be a little less fun than it looks at first glance. Proceed with caution. VIRGO & VIRGO RISING This week's full moon (Wednesday AEST and GMT) could feel intense, with Saturn casting a long shadow over what is usually a pretty playful moment in your calendar. The tension is passing. If you're unsure whether to send the email, don't…or at least wait until the end of the week. Elsewhere, you're moving out of a super eventful 12-month period into a more playful, social chapter. New friends, new connections, maybe new interests could all take root in the next year. Stay open to trying something different, and when a random invite materialises, say yes . LIBRA & LIBRA RISING There's some good stuff happening for Librans this week, but first, let's deal with the immediate drama: Wednesday's full moon. Travel, comms and tech could all be tricky. You're possibly still reeling from the intensity of Saturn pulling the 'time to get real' mood in your personal relationships. While that vibe isn't going anywhere, this week, some long-term respite is on the horizon. It's also the start of a 12-month chapter of opportunity, growth and expansion around your professional life. Opportunities and upgrades abound if you're prepared to take a leap and try something outside your comfort zone. SCORPIO & SCORPIO RISING You're back in more familiar territory this week with emotions running high. Cosmic tides are also on the rise, prompting big questions and even bigger plans. Jupiter in Cancer is all about life-affirming experiences—study, travel, or spiritual quests. It's definitely the start of 12 months where you'll feel inspired to go inward. Wednesday's full moon lights up your financial sector, asking you to reassess your choices and maybe put some lines in the sand around what you're investing your dollars—and energy—into. SAGITTARIUS & SAGITTARIUS RISING A full moon in your home sign arrives this week (Wednesday AEST and GMT), but it's a little less vibrant than expected. This lunation (around this time each year) is usually a party moment, but this year, it's a little more 'Actually, I've had second thoughts…' Remember, boundaries aren't a bad thing. In this instance, you're probably well within your rights to push back. It's all very grown-up and a fitting start to the beginning of a 12-month chapter of deep healing and emotional nourishment. CAPRICORN & CAPRICORN RISING It's an intense week for sea goats as a full moon stirs up a need to unplug and get away from it all. Don't be afraid to lean out from the drama, especially at work, if you find office politics getting out of hand, especially around Wednesday (AEST and GMT). Longer term, Jupiter's move into Cancer this week marks the beginning of a new chapter for your closest relationships. Whether you're single or coupled up, you're in for 12 months of growth, expansion and adventure. Buckle up, it's going to be an exciting new era. AQUARIUS & AQUARIUS RISING As hard as it may be, you might need to say 'no' more than you'd like this week. With friends or acquaintances expecting you to go above and beyond, some healthy boundaries may be in order. It feels tense in the middle of the week, but stay strong; the vibe is passing. Elsewhere in the sky, you're kicking off a new 12-month era of learning, expansion and growth, especially at work and in the realm of your health and wellbeing. If you've been thinking about the pitter-patter of furry feet, this could be the year you commit to adopting a dog or cat. PISCES & PISCES RISING A lot is happening this week, but the real high point comes midweek with a full moon in Sagittarius (Wednesday, 11 June AEST and GMT). Usually, this full moon is a ticket to 'Shall we get another bottle?', but this year it's a little more restrained. With Jupiter amplifying emotions, and Saturn playing designated driver, it could feel like a record scratch ending the night early. It's a week of big feelings, change and reorienting. Expect a little drama and you'll be well prepared.

Jewelry-wise, Hadid stacked orange and pale yellow bubble bangles on one wrist and added a burgundy beaded bracelet to the other, leaning into bold, chunky accents. Her colorful dangle crystal earrings brought a playful, Y2K touch to the look that seamlessly paired back to the embellishments on her Marc Jacobs dress. In true Hadid fashion, she grounded the entire ensemble with none other than a pair of light orange Havaianas flip-flops — a go-to warm-weather staple.
