National Panchayat Raj Day celebrated
Ongole: National Local Government Chamber and Andhra Pradesh Gram Swaraj Sadhana Samiti jointly celebrated the National Panchayat Day 2025 here on Thursday.
Dr Nukasani Balaji, Prakasam district Telugu Desam Party President and Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC), attended the celebrations as the chief guest.
The programme included discussions on various aspects of village development and featured a special seminar on strengthening the Panchayat Raj system. Dr Balaji highlighted the achievements made through the Panchayat Raj Act and stressed the need for effective implementation of local self-governance, noting that village development is possible through local leadership and that Sarpanches play a crucial role in implementing government schemes. During the event, Dr Balaji presented awards and certificates of appreciation to Sarpanches from across the district, who had provided exemplary services.
Ongole Mayor Gangada Sujata, District Sarpanch Association Founding President Veerabhadra Chari, General Secretary Vasanta, District Secretary Rajamma, executive committee member Ramesh, other leaders, and numerous Sarpanches and public representatives from various mandals throughout the district participated in the programme.

Own responsibility of protecting trees: Gottipati
Addanki: Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar has emphasised that everyone bears the responsibility of planting and protecting trees. He participated in the Vanamahotsavam programme organised by the state government for World Environment Day and planted saplings at Chandaluru in J Pangaluru mandal on Thursday. Speaking at the event, Ravi Kumar stated that environmental protection is everyone's responsibility and called upon each individual to plant at least one tree as their contribution. He advised everyone to develop an attachment to plants and trees. He criticised the previous government, alleging that hundreds of trees were cut down during former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's tours. He highlighted that the coalition government led by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu gives high priority to public health and forest conservation. He said the government's commitment to environmental protection and called upon everyone to take inspiration from CM Chandrababu Naidu's initiative of planting one crore trees as part of Vanamahotsavam, urging people to organise tree plantation programmes like festivals in every village. Following the tree plantation programme, Minister Gottipati visited Janakavaram village in Panguluru mandal to console the family of a farmer who had recently passed away. He provided financial assistance to the farmer's family members and assured that the coalition government would stand by the farmers in their times of need. Later, he visited the family of Venkata Rao, a TDP worker from Tammavaram village in Korisapadu mandal, who had recently died in an accident. Minister Gottipati consoled the bereaved family members and provided them with financial assistance. The Minister emphasised the importance of every Telugu Desam Party worker taking party membership to become eligible for insurance coverage benefits. He explained that this would ensure financial security for party workers and their families during difficult times.

Cabinet nod to clear 2 DAs
Hyderabad: The state Cabinet has on Thursday approved the long-pending demands of the government employees which included the release of two instalments of dearness allowance (DA) this year. It also decided to expedite the construction of rural roads under HAM (hybrid annuity model) and the expansion of the Metro Rail in the greater Hyderabad limits. During the six-hour-long Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his Cabinet colleagues discussed extensively the employees' demands and took a slew of decisions. Briefing the media after the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said the government would release one DA amount immediately to the government staff and another one would be released after six months due to financial constraints. The demand for the creation of a trust to provide medical care to all the employees with equal contribution of insurance amount by the employees and the government was accepted. The Chief Secretary will be the chairman of the healthcare trust. The Cabinet also decided to pay the pending bills, including the benefit to the retired employees. As much as Rs 700 crore will be spent on the release of pending bills every month. Ban on recruitment of retired employees on a contract basis, fast clearance of the compassionate appointments, grading the posts of the Panchayat secretaries, establishment of nursing directorate, Rs 2 lakh retirement benefits to the Anganwadi workers and clearing all pending hired vehicle bills were among other decisions that were taken in the Cabinet meeting. To improve the connectivity for public transportation, Information and Public Relations Minister P Srinivasa Reddy said that the Cabinet approved new metro line corridors mainly- Shamshabad to Future City (39 km), Jubilee Bus Station- Medchal (25 Km) and Jubilee Bus Station to Shamirpet (22 km). The estimated cost of the new metro line networks for 86 km was Rs 19,579 crore and it would be taken up jointly by the state and Union governments, the minister said, adding that the BJP MPs and Union ministers should also pursue the issue with the Centre and get approvals without any delay. The Cabinet ratified the development of R & B roads and Panchayat Raj roads under the HAM model. The R & B will develop a 5,100 km road network and the Panchayat Raj will improve the road network on a 7,900-km stretch. All the proposed road development projects will be completed in two years and the agency, which will take up the roads, will be entrusted with the responsibility of maintenance of the roads for 15 years. The Earth Science University in Kothagudem district would be named after former prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the minister said, adding that the Cabinet decided to pay an insurance amount of Rs 10 lakh to the members of self-help groups in case of deaths.

Cabinet clears DA hike, Metro Phase 2B expansion and ₹33,000 crore for road development
The State Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, has approved a wide range of decisions, including payment of another instalment of Dearness Allowances for employees, expansion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail, developing 13,357 Kms of roads, setting up Health Care Trust for employees and the establishment of Telangana Earth Sciences University. The five-and-a-half-hour meeting held at the Secretariat on Thursday discussed at length issues concerning the State, including employees' demands and some were accepted while the others would be cleared soon, said Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, who briefed the media. Metro Rail Phase-2B cleared The Cabinet also cleared the decks for the Hyderabad Metro Phase 2B project, to be executed jointly by the State and Central governments at an estimated cost of ₹19,579 crore. The project spans 86.1 km and includes three major corridors. Corridor-1 includes Shamshabad Airport to Future City (39.6 km), Corridor-2 includes Jubilee Bus Station to Medchal (24.5 km), and Corridor-3 includes Jubilee Bus Station to Shamirpet (22 km). The project proposals would be sent to the Centre for jointly taking up, Mr. Srinivas Reddy said while urging that Union ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar to help to get the assistance cleared at the earliest. Two DA instalments for employees Mr. Vikramarka said the Cabinet approved the payment of two pending DAs to government employees. One DA, due from January 1, 2023, will be released immediately, and the second will be announced after six months. Arrears from the first DA will be paid in 28 monthly instalments. He said the pending bills of the government employees would be cleared, releasing ₹700 crore per month. A Health Care Trust would be set up with employees contributing ₹500 per month and an equal amount contributed by the government. Medical assistance would be extended from the Trust to be headed by the Chief Secretary. Conducting the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) annually and establishing a State-level Medical Invalidation Committee are the other decisions. The Cabinet formally approved the naming of Telangana Earth Sciences University in Kothagudem after late Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who played a key role in the formation of the State, said the Revenue Minister. The university is India's first dedicated institution for earth sciences and will begin operations in the current academic year. ₹33,194 crore for Roads Mr. Srinivas Reddy said the Cabinet also approved the ambitious plan to develop 13,137 km of roads under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) with no burden on the people. These include 7,947 km under Panchayat Raj and 5,190 km under Roads & Buildings (R&B) department. The government will invest ₹33,194 crore, including ₹16,780 crore for Panchayat Raj roads and ₹16,414 crore for R&B roads. Under the HAM model, contractors will be responsible for construction within two years and maintenance for 15 years. Projects will be executed as district-level packages across the erstwhile joint districts. ₹10 lakh for deceased SHG members The government has decided to provide ₹10 lakh to the deceased members of women's self-help groups. This support will be directly disbursed, avoiding third-party insurance premiums. Last year 385 women died and their families would get ₹38.5 crore. Bonus to paddy to continue To encourage paddy cultivation, the Cabinet has decided to continue with bonus being paid for the fine rice variety.
