Genting US Subsidiary To Dispose Non-Gaming Assets For RM2.2 Billion
Genting Malaysia Berhad has announced that its wholly-owned US subsidiary, Empire Resorts Inc., will enhance its capital structure and financial position which involves selling non-gaming assets, acquiring land, and redeeming a substantial bond.
The multi-part proposal includes the Proposed Disposal of Empire's non-gaming assets to the Sullivan County Resort Facilities Local Development Corporation (SCRFLDC) for a cash consideration of USD525 million (approximately RM2.2 billion). The assets being sold include the Resorts World Catskills hotel, the Alder Hotel, a golf course, event space, and restaurants.
The group said tthe proceeds from the disposal will be used to achieve two key objectives for Empire:
Debt Redemption: Empire will fully redeem its USD300 million (RM1.3 billion) Senior Unsecured Notes, a move that will make the company debt-free.
Land Acquisition: Empire will purchase 1,554.6 acres of land from EPR Properties for USD201.3 million (RM848.1 million). This includes the land on which the casino and the sold non-gaming assets are located, as well as an additional 1,134.6 acres of vacant land with future development potential.
The company stated that this will strengthen its asset base and provide long-term control over its property without the burden of debt.
Despite the sale of its non-gaming assets, Empire will continue to manage them through a new 20-year management agreement with SCRFLDC, with the possibility of two five-year extensions. The company will also enter into a long-term land lease with SCRFLDC for the non-gaming assets, extending until February 15, 2066.
The proposal is expected to enhance Empire's cost structure by eliminating lease payments to EPR and extinguishing interest on the redeemed bond. This is anticipated to generate a surplus of approximately USD10 million (RM42.1 million) for general working capital.

MBSB inks RM1.3b financing pact to fuel Cypark's renewable energy growth
KUALA LUMPUR: MBSB Bank Bhd has secured its position as Cypark Resources Bhd's principal banking partner after formalising Islamic financing facilities worth RM1.3 billion with the renewable energy and environmental solutions provider. The landmark facility, which combines refinancing and working capital solutions, is designed to strengthen Cypark's capital structure, improve cash flow management, and create capacity for future growth. As part of the arrangement, Cypark will also place funds into MBSB's Sustainable Term Deposit-i, a product that channels deposits into environmentally and socially responsible projects. The partnership not only bolsters Cypark's role in Malaysia's fast-expanding clean energy sector but also underscores MBSB's growing leadership in financing the nation's transition towards a low-carbon economy. MBSB group chairman Datuk Wan Kamaruzaman Wan Ahmad said the facility marked "a milestone in our own transformation as we align Islamic finance with national energy goals. "By matching capital to long-term renewable assets, we are also shaping Malaysia's clean energy future. "Cypark is Malaysia's integrated renewable energy and environmental solutions provider. The company is recognised for its pioneering projects in solar, biogas and waste-to-energy, including the country's first SMART Waste-to-Energy facility. "With an installed renewable energy capacity of 400 megawatts, Cypark plays a critical role in Malaysia's decarbonisation pathway and in reducing national carbon emissions," he said in a statement. Wan Kamaruzaman added that the exercise represented another significant milestone in the group's Cypark 2.0 transformation journey, a strategy to strengthen its financial foundation, enhance operational delivery and accelerate clean energy growth. Through this financing, he said, MBSB will refinance Cypark's established renewable energy assets in solar and waste-to-energy initiatives. Meanwhile, Cypark chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar said the refinancing of the group's debt eases a key financial burden and positions the company to pursue sustainable growth while maximising returns to shareholders. "We value MBSB Bank not only as a financier but also as a strategic partner who shares our vision for a low-carbon economy for Malaysia. "Their confidence in our capabilities and commitment to the nation's energy transition have been instrumental in achieving this milestone. "We look forward to working closely with MBSB Bank to deliver robust solutions for a firm renewable energy supply to the grid." As Malaysia accelerates towards its renewable energy goals, MBSB said this facility sets a benchmark for how financial innovation and sustainability can converge. For MBSB and Cypark, the partnership is not just about financing but about powering progress, securing a low-carbon energy future and creating a lasting positive impact for generations to come.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- The 2024/2025 Warriors Fund (KTP) Campaign successfully raised over RM2.19 million, surpassing the RM1.3 million collected in the previous edition. Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) Veterans Affairs Department (JHEV) Director-General Major General Datuk Semaon Marjuki said the funds collected through the KTP campaign were channelled to the MAF veterans in the form of general welfare and disaster aid, medical assistance, and educational support for their children. He said the assistance was extended to 2,067 veterans in 2023, 1,627 veterans in 2024, and 5,357 veterans this year. 'For all those who have contributed, I extend my appreciation and encourage continued support as a gesture of gratitude for the sacrifices of our heroes who risked their lives and well-being to safeguard the nation's security and sovereignty. 'Each contribution is also eligible for a 10 per cent income tax rebate from the Inland Revenue Board (IRB),' he told Bernama today. Semaon said that, similar to previous editions, the 2025/2026 KTP campaign, which began on Aug 1 and will run until July 2026, has maintained its collection target of RM3 million. He added that one of the new initiatives for this edition is the One People One Ringgit programme (2R'DP), which enables the public to contribute more conveniently by scanning a QR code linked to the KTP account. 'The official launch of the 2025/2026 KTP is scheduled for this October, in conjunction with the MAF JHEV Silver Jubilee celebration in Melaka, and is expected to be officiated by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin,' he said. According to him, donations can be made through several channels, including online transfers to the official KTP account, physical donation boxes at strategic locations such as selected BHP petrol stations, corporate contributions, charity sales, participation fees from the MAF JHEV activities, as well as collections by veterans' associations.

Entrepreneurs renting MARA premises recorded RM2.2bil in sales last year
KUALA LUMPUR: Entrepreneurs renting business premises under Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) recorded total sales of RM2.2 billion last year, said Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang. She said that as of June this year, the accumulated sales value for 6,557 business lots nationwide stood at RM1.01 billion, an increase of 5.6 per cent over the same period last year. "In addition, a total of 14,943 job opportunities have been created through businesses operating in MARA premises nationwide," she said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today. She was responding to a supplementary question from Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN-Tampin) on the contribution of MARA arcades towards the local economy and the creation of job opportunities and income for Bumiputera entrepreneurs up to June 2025. Elaborating further, Rubiah said that MARA arcades continue to receive good response from small entrepreneurs, but the limited number of business spaces remains the main challenge, in addition to most MARA arcades built in the 1970s and 1980s requiring infrastructure and facility upgrades. Therefore, she said that under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), the ministry through MARA has applied for an allocation of RM50 million to upgrade MARA arcades, bazaars and business premises to be more suitable, attractive and comfortable for entrepreneurs and visitors. Answering a supplementary question from Bakri Jamaluddin (PN-Tangga Batu) regarding the rental of MARA premises to other government agencies, Rubiah said MARA is currently reviewing its business lot allocation policy, including proposals to limit the maximum number of lots per tenant and to reassess the allocation of business spaces used by government agencies. She said this step is to ensure that opportunities for Bumiputera entrepreneurs are not affected and remain MARA's priority in local economic development. Rubiah added that MARA's policy stipulates that the provision of business premises is for Bumiputera entrepreneur development, but rental to capable companies and government agencies is not against the rules as long as it complies with existing guidelines and does not affect the participation of small entrepreneurs. "There are indeed several MARA premises, including in arcades and commercial buildings, that have been rented to Federal and state government agencies. For example, in Melaka, tenants include PTPTN (National Higher Education Fund Corporation), TEKUN (National Entrepreneurial Group Economic Fund), Melaka Islamic Religious Council and Perbadanan Melaka Holdings Sdn. Bhd. "This is a way to generate rental income and ensure optimum use of spaces that are not in demand among traders or are less strategic for business operations. Furthermore, rentals involving government agencies are based on the functions and roles of those agencies in the local community," she said. On longer-term rentals, Rubiah explained that this is because the premises and entrepreneurs concerned provide consistent rental returns to MARA, the tenants successfully maintain stable businesses, benefit the local community, and there is insufficient demand from new entrepreneurs in certain areas.
