Rohde & Schwarz to highlight broadcast technologies at CABSAT
Rohde & Schwarz will showcase its latest transmitters and 5G Broadcast technologies, designed to support network operators and content providers in driving operational resilience, sustainability and new business models.
Rohde & Schwarz is set to return to CABSAT in 2025, where it will present a range of next-generation broadcast distribution solutions aimed at helping content providers and network operators embrace new business models, boost operational resilience and meet sustainability goals.
A major highlight at the company's stand will be the R&STH1 high-power transmitter. Engineered for the evolving broadcast landscape, the R&STH1 features a cutting-edge amplifier architecture that improves energy efficiency by 15% compared to previous models. Its liquid-cooled design efficiently channels over 90% of heat outside the building, reducing cooling demands and overall energy consumption. These features significantly lower the total cost of ownership and position the R&STH1 as a versatile platform capable of supporting emerging services like 5G Broadcast.
Visitors will be able to see first-hand how Rohde & Schwarz is enabling 5G Broadcast adoption, with real-world demonstrations that include use cases such as venue casting, multimedia alerts and dynamic advertising. These examples showcase the technology's potential to deliver content to mass audiences without straining cellular networks, offering a robust solution for mobile-first regions.
The company will also showcase its complete DAB+ transmitter lineup, tailored to meet a wide range of output needs while maintaining high efficiency and reliability. The portfolio includes the compact, air-cooled R&STLV9 starting at 50 watts, the air-cooled R&STMV9evo for outputs from 350 watts and the high-performance, liquid-cooled R&STHV9evo for power levels starting at 1.3 kilowatts. All three transmitters are designed to support broadcasters in their transition to digital radio, offering cost-effective, scalable solutions.
Maha Chrabie, Sales Director, Broadcast and Distribution MEA at Rohde & Schwarz, said: 'CABSAT gives us the chance to meet with key players across the Middle East and Africa. We're looking forward to demonstrating how our solutions help broadcasters and network operators grow new revenue streams while building a sustainable and flexible future.'

Nokia and Verizon secure deal to provide 5G to UK FTZ
Verizon Business and Nokia recently secured a deal to provide 5G networks to multiple logistics, manufacturing and innovation sites across Thames Freeport. Thames Freeport will use the operator's private 5G networks to improve port operations with AI-based data analytics, autonomous vehicle control, real-time logistics orchestration and research and development. Nokia is the hardware and software vendor for the networks, which includes its digital automation cloud (DAC) platform and its on-premises edge computing platform, MX Industrial Edge (MXIE). A representative for Verizon told Mobile World Live there will be at least three private networks covering as many locations, and some with multiple sites, which could expand as the deployment progresses. The representative explained the deployment is in early stages and the networks are likely months away from going live. Verizon noted Thames Freeport is a designated UK free trade zone designed to ramp economic growth in the area while creating high-value jobs and attracting global investments. It is part of a long-term effort to revive the UK's River Thames Estuary region. The private 5G networks will play a direct role in reviving the local economy by providing job training and reskilling initiatives to foster innovation and R&D collaborations among Freeport tenants and outside corporate, government and research entities. The project has created 1,400 jobs and plans to reach 5,000 by 2030, with a focus on high-skilled training for the local communities. Thames Freeport CEO Martin Whiteley stated the investment in private 5G networks is 'the backbone of a technological transformation fuelling our long-term multi-stakeholder mission'. Thames Freeport and its tenant companies, including Ford, DP World and Forth Ports, will manage the private 5G infrastructure. Source: Mobile World Live Image Credit: Stock Image/Nokia

AVEVA on the right track as they publish the findings of their 2024 Sustainability Report
AVEVA, a global leader in industrial software, has launched its 2024 Sustainability Report. Alongside a substantial update on progress against the company's targets and green product roadmap; the report shows how software, which enables companies to unify trusted information and insights, can drive responsible use of the world's resources. AVEVA's 2024 Sustainability Report, revealed significant progress across all three pillars of the company's sustainability framework: technology handprint, operational footprint and inclusive culture. In 2024, the company maintained its 93% reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions against its baseline year through a combination of measures including: the pivot to using renewable energy, careful management of office space and fleet optimisation. By the end of 2024, AVEVA had assessed the maturity of its entire product portfolio against the Green Software Foundation's principles, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable software development. In parallel, research and development teams had completed power bench testing for 85% of its products to evaluate energy consumption. Combined, these efforts are helping to establish a baseline that will guide future improvements aligned with green software principles. 'We believe that sustainability and business success go hand in hand,' says Caspar Herzberg, CEO, AVEVA. 'We're focused on helping our customers harness the full potential of industrial intelligence, bringing visibility and insight to complex data and processes. This empowers the industry to achieve measurable improvements in both efficiency and productivity, unlocking significant savings in costs, emissions and resource requirements. AVEVA's 2024 Sustainability Report demonstrates the strides we've made to deepen our technology handprint, reduce our operational footprint and advance our inclusive culture.' AVEVA recognises that its biggest opportunity to make a positive climate impact is through its core products and customers. For the first time, the company has released an annual saved and avoided emissions figure, reflecting the material energy savings observed for a specific portion of its products. AVEVA is committed to refining and expanding this calculation of measurable saved and avoided emissions over time. 'As we enter the final year of our 2025 targets, we're focused on meeting our goals and chartering an even bolder path with our sustainability framework. We know that the biggest impact comes from our software handprint – how we work with our customers to enable them to drive decarbonisation, become more resilient and support circularity. This is why we're publicly reporting our 2024 customer saved and avoided emissions data for select industry sectors. We're committed to expanding our methodology to capture and quantify our broader impact. At AVEVA, we are continuing to advance towards a sustainable future, driving digital transformation through our software and leading by example with responsible operations,' adds Lisa Wee, CSO, AVEVA.
