2025 Travelers Championship picks, odds: Sam Burns, Brian Harman among names to watch
After a U.S. Open that literally saw only its winner, J.J. Spaun, finish under par, the PGA Tour resumes with the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut.
While this tournament should challenge its competitors, it certainly won't be the test the Oakmont Country Club put players through last weekend. And this weekend's field features several of the tour's stars, who'll be anxious to put tough performances past them, as well as other who are hoping the U.S. Open was beginning of a run.

With that in mind here are some picks for this weekend (Odds are from BetMGM):
Scottie Scheffler (+300): Oakmont saw the most inaccurate drives, statistically, from Scheffler this year and the No. 1 ranked player didn't lose any strokes from the the tee, according to datagolf.com. Even if Scheffler, isn't using the long club as well as we've come to expect, he's still playing great golf. He hasn't finished worse than T8 in a tournament since mid-March and has won three out of his last five starts.
Sam Burns (+3000): Burns was leading the field heading into the final round of the U.S. Open. He had a tough back nine including a controversial ruling on 15 that denied him relief from a water soaked area.
Save for that half of the round, he was playing Oakmont as well as he had been leading up to the major. Since the Masters, he's only finished outside of the top 20 in one of his seven starts.

Cameron Young (+4000): Young is another golfer that came into the U.S. Open with a lot of momentum and carried it through. He picked up 2.03 true strokes on the greens, according to datagolf.com, while also striking the ball well off the tee.
Ben Griffin (+5000): Griffin has been on quite the run over the last month. His last four starts were T10, second, a win and T8. He's picking up strokes all over the course and is in great form.
Brian Harman (+6600): Harman historically plays well at this course and tournament. In 14 career starts he's finished in the top 10 seven times, including his last four appearances. It also doesn't seem to matter what sort of form he's in heading into the Travelers making him player to watch in this week's field.

Sam Burns — Top 5 (+500): Burns has been terrific putting the ball. This course features some challenging greens where' that skill could come in handy. These odds also feel like a good value for a player with Burns' momentum.
Brian Harman – Top 10 (+450): As noted earlier, he's finished in the top 10 in half of his starts at this event. These are great odds for what has historically been a coin flip.
That's a ⭕ on the card.
It's early, but Brian Harman is the only player currently on the course in red figures for the day. pic.twitter.com/gq8tZq8Gb5

Tommy Fleetwood — Top 20 (+110): Fleetwood missed a cut for the first time this year at the U.S. Open. In his 13 other starts he's finished in the top 20 eight times.
Harry Hall — Top 30 (+130): Hall is playing better than his rank (84), especially over the last month. His last four finishes starting with his most recent were T24, T6, T19 and T20.

Cubs' Justin Steele Sends Strong Message Amid Pete Crow-Armstrong's Big Night
Cubs' Justin Steele Sends Strong Message Amid Pete Crow-Armstrong's Big Night originally appeared on Athlon Sports. During the Chicago Cubs game against the Milwaukee Brewers, Pete Crow-Armstrong went super-human to help secure the Cubs the 5-3 win. Amid Crow-Armstrong putting together an incredible night, Cubs starter Justin Steele made two posts on X, showering the young center fielder with praise. The first post from Steele simply called Crow-Armstrong as "MVPete!!!" With the Cubs center fielder putting on a show defensively, and hitting a 450+ foot home run in the eighth inning to give the Cubs a much-needed insurance run, calling Crow-Armstrong an MVP isn't undeserved. Advertisement Steele then followed his first post on X up with another one, which claimed Crow-Armstrong is much-watch television. "PCA is must watch television right now. Every time he takes the field; stop what you're doing and just watch. He has whatever 'IT' is." The praise for Crow-Armstrong comes amid an incredible season, which has led him to be slotted in as an All-Star starter and one of the best outfielders in baseball. His defense and offense have made Crow-Armstrong, in the words of Steele, "must watch television." Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong (4) hits a home run against the Milwaukee Brewers during the eighth inning at Wrigley Banks-Imagn Images Crow-Armstrong is batting .270 with 19 home runs and 58 RBIs to begin the year. On the year, Crow-Armstrong has 76 hits, 52 runs scored, 16 doubles, three triples, 23 stolen bases, 14 walks, and 73 strikeouts. His offensive production has been some of the best in the sport, and he's even better defensively. Advertisement According to Baseball Savant, Crow-Armstrong has an Outs Above Average (OAA) of 12, second in all of baseball to only Bobby Witt Jr. Crow-Armstrong has the highest OAA of all outfielders and has been making highlight reel plays night after night in center for the Cubs. The praise from Steele comes amid Crow-Armstrong's breakout season. He's been one of the most electric players in the sport in 2025, and every night, he's seemingly doing something remarkable. Cubs fans and Steele are likely to agree; Crow-Armstrong is "must-watch television" every night he steps out onto the field. Jazz Chisholm Jr. homers against Angels to end 30-inning scoreless streak for the Yankees
New York Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr. hits an RBI single during the second inning of a baseball game against the Boston Red Sox, Friday, June 6, 2025, in New York. (AP Photo/Frank Franklin II) NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Yankees ended their 30-inning scoreless streak Wednesday night when Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered in the second inning against the Los Angeles Angels. Trailing 1-0, the Yankees ended their run-scoring drought when Chisholm sent a 2-0 pitch from Los Angeles starter Jack Konchanowicz into the seats in right field. The ball stayed just inside the foul pole and Chisholm, and his 10th homer of the season, was celebrated in the dugout with his teammates. Advertisement The run was New York's first since Anthony Volpe hit an RBI groundout in the ninth inning of its 4-3 loss at Boston on Saturday. It was the seventh-longest scoreless streak in team history and seven behind the team record set Sept 3-8, 1908 against Washington, when Walter Johnson pitched three straight complete games against the Yankees. It was New York's longest scoreless streak since going 33 innings without a run Sept. 22-25, 2016. The Yankees ended that streak when Didi Gregorius homered in the seventh inning at Toronto. The last team to get blanked in four straight games was the Kansas City Royals, who were scoreless for 45 innings Aug. 24-29, 2017. The major league scoreless record is 48 innings, held by the 1968 Chicago Cubs and 1906 Philadelphia Athletics. Advertisement New York's 4-0 loss on Tuesday marked the seventh time in team history it was blanked in three straight games, but only the third instance in the past 50 years. New York began Wednesday with five straight losses and mustered only five runs in its past six games, including a 1-0 win last Thursday in Kansas City. The last time the Yankees scored five runs or fewer in a six-game span was August 1968. Despite the recent struggles, the Yankees lead the AL with a plus-98 run differential. New York also entered Wednesday leading the AL with 109 homers and 373 runs. ___ More AP baseball:

Messi fit to face Porto: Inter Miami's Mascherano
Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano says Lionel Messi will be fit to face Porto in the MLS side's next Club World Cup game (ROBERTO SCHMIDT) Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano said Lionel Messi would be fit to face Porto at the Club World Cup on Thursday, despite showing signs of discomfort in training. A video emerged of Messi touching his left leg during the session on Wednesday, but Mascherano confirmed the veteran forward was ready for Miami's second Group A match in Atlanta. Advertisement "On the trip from Miami to Atlanta I saw that came out in some places, but Leo is fit, he trained, he completed the whole session," Mascherano told reporters. "He was touching his leg, sometimes people touch themselves, but there's no problem, he's fit and obviously he will play tomorrow." The coach said Messi's former Barcelona team-mate Jordi Alba was available after missing the opening 0-0 draw against Al Ahly due to injury. "We'll evaluate what's best for us, if he starts or not," said the coach. "Actually, I already know but I won't tell you." Advertisement Mascherano meanwhile said retaining possession would be the key against Portugal's Porto, regular Champions League participants who are likely to provide the MLS team with a stern test. "We have players who feel much more comfortable when they're in possession, dominating, and having control of the game through the ball," said the Argentine. "Of course, we're facing a team that also is used to doing that, who are a high level side. "But on the pitch we're 11 against 11, we'll try to shut down their strengths, expose their weaknesses and try to have a great game to get a good result." Advertisement Inter Miami midfielder Sergio Busquets, a member of Spain's 2010 World Cup-winning side and one of Messi's former Barcelona team-mates, admitted his team would be up against it at the Mercedes-Benz stadium. "They have very good players, they have reinforced and we know that it will be very difficult," Busquets told reporters. "They are a team that compete every year for their league, against other great teams like Sporting and Benfica. "We will try to be as solid as possible, stick close together and try to do the best we can as a team. "If we get chances, we have the individuals (who can finish them), but above all we have to be solid and keep a clean sheet." rbs/rcw
