Flood Watch in DC region as showers and thunderstorms threaten through weekend
The Brief
Flood Watch in effect tonight for D.C., and parts of Maryland, and Virginia.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms could bring flash flooding to the region.
Unsettled weather continues through Father's Day, with storm chances lingering into next week.
WASHINGTON - A Flood Watch is in effect Friday evening through late tonight for D.C., and parts of Maryland, and Virginia, as showers and thunderstorms threaten the area throughout the weekend.
Temperatures will start in the upper-60s to low-70s Friday morning with a dry start. However, after several days of dry weather, pop-up showers and storms are expected to develop by afternoon and evening.
A nearby front will keep conditions unsettled for the next couple of days. Some storms may be slow-moving, with potential impacts lasting into the evening and through midnight. Brief dry periods are expected early Saturday, but another round of afternoon storms is likely.
If storms do not arrive on Friday, expect a higher chance of rain Saturday and continuing through Father's Day on Sunday. The unsettled pattern may continue into early next week.
Thursday's high reached 92 degrees, with upper-80s to low-90s expected Friday.
The heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, and streams. Several inches of rain are possible.

Muggy, stormy weather expected for Father's Day weekend
(PINPOINT WEATHER) — As we close out the week, we are dealing with more of the same across the Carolinas with locally heavy rain and thunderstorms along with miserable humidity. More of the same is on the way this weekend, with scattered showers and storms expected for both Saturday and Sunday with more heat and mugginess. This summer pattern looks to continue unabated through the end of next week, with no completely dry day until the end of next week. As for tonight and your Father's Day Weekend, scattered showers and storms are expected this evening with heavy rain and isolated flash flooding possible. Overnight lows will stay on the warm side thanks to showers and elevated humidity as temperatures will struggle to dip down below the 70-degree mark. Saturday and Father's Day will bring more of the same with afternoon showers and storms and tropical like conditions as highs push into the upper 80s and the humidity making it feel borderline intolerable outside. If you're looking to do anything outside with Dad this weekend, the best time will likely be the middle of the day when we should be dry. Heading into next week, more of the same is expected across the Carolinas with showers and storms possible in the afternoon, essentially every day of the week. Along with the possible wet weather is more heat and humidity, of course, with temperatures that could be pushing into the 90s as our weather starts to dry out. So if you've wanted to go to the tropics, don't worry, because the weather has come to you! Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Hazy sunshine expected through the weekend
SALT LAKE CITY () — Happy Friday, Utah! Friday afternoon will feature more sunshine and hot temperatures. A southwesterly breeze will help to keep some dust and haze in the air. Highs will warm into the mid-90s for the Wasatch Front to 101° for St. George. A stronger ridge of high pressure will settle overhead, leading to drier and hotter conditions just in time for Father's Day weekend. High temps will be in the mid to upper 90s for the Wasatch Front. Across southern Utah, high temps will warm between 100°-105°. The warm temperatures, low humidity levels, dry vegetation, and gusty southwest winds will lead to a critical fire danger developing across portions of central and southern Utah. Any outdoor burning will be highly discouraged. A weak trough may arrive early next week, knocking a few degrees off daytime highs, but overall, expect well-above average temperatures and mainly dry conditions to stick around through most of next week.
