Liverpool to begin Premier League title defence against Bournemouth

Liverpool will kick off their Premier League title defence with a home game against Bournemouth on Friday, August 15. Arne Slot's side have the chance to secure the first points of the new season at Anfield as they launch the 2025-26 campaign. Thomas Frank's first match as Tottenham boss will come the following day at home against newly-promoted Burnley, while Sunderland's return to the top flight also begins at home on August 16 against West Ham. The third newcomers, Leeds, have been given the Monday night slot for a clash with Everton at Elland Road. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Premier League (@premierleague) Other fixtures on the opening weekend see Aston Villa face Newcastle at Villa Park in the early kick-off on the Saturday, while Manchester City travel to Wolves later the same day. Ruben Amorim's Manchester United have been handed an immediate challenging test with a home game against Arsenal on Sunday, August 17. Everton's first Premier League match at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium comes the following weekend against Brighton, while notable fixtures that weekend include Arsenal hosting Leeds, Tottenham travelling to Manchester City and Liverpool visiting Newcastle. It could be a testing start for Slot's champions, with a home game against Arsenal on the third weekend ahead of the first international break of the new term. The first Manchester derby of the campaign comes immediately after the break, on the weekend of September 13 at the Etihad Stadium, where Pep Guardiola's new-look team will hope to stamp their authority after a difficult season. A probable key couple of weeks for City concludes with a trip to Arsenal the following weekend, while the weekend of September 20 also sees the Merseyside derby take place at Anfield and a meeting between Manchester United and Chelsea. Burnley appear to have the most tricky start of the promoted sides, with Spurs, Manchester United, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Manchester City and Aston Villa all among their first eight fixtures, while they also face clashes with Leeds and Sunderland. The weekend of October 18 will be immediately marked in the diaries of Manchester United and Liverpool fans, with the rivals clashing at Anfield. The first meeting between Manchester City and Liverpool comes the weekend of November 8 at the Etihad Stadium, with the first north London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham taking place the other side of the international break at the Emirates. The north-east derby, meanwhile, returns to the Premier League the weekend of December 13 when Newcastle make the short trip to Sunderland's Stadium of Light. The first weekend of the new year will see matches between Leeds and Manchester United and Manchester City and Chelsea, with Arsenal facing Liverpool the following midweek. Notable fixtures in the second half of the season include the second Manchester derby at Old Trafford the weekend of January 17, while Liverpool host Manchester City the weekend of February 7. Everton fans will have to wait until the weekend of April 18 for the first Merseyside derby at their new home, with Arsenal also travelling to Manchester City in that round of fixtures. The final day of the season falls on Sunday, May 24, with matches including Manchester City against Aston Villa.

Royal Ascot each-way and Lucky 15 tips: Day 2

Ron Wood has picked out a Lucky 15 for Royal Ascot day two, as well as his best each-way bet. If you already have a Sky Bet account and are looking for a new bookmaker to use for this week's racing, check out more free bets from the best betting sites, reviewed by our experts. Royal Ascot Day 2 Lucky 15 tips The first horse in this Lucky 15 bet is SHACKLETON in the Group 2 Queen's Vase (3.05). A low draw is handy in this 1m 6f race, so he looks well berthed in stall three, and he's a likely improver for Aidan O'Brien, who has trained the winner of this race five times in the past 10 years. Even under a 3lb penalty, CINDERELLA'S DREAM has strong claims in the following race, the Duke of Cambridge Stakes (3.40), another Group 2 contest over a mile. She steps down in trip but has a good change of pace and most of her main rivals ideally want further. The Royal Hunt Cup (5.00) is one of Royal Ascot's biggest handicap races and Sky Bet is paying out on seven places. SILAWI looks to have fair claims of getting in among these positions. He won well at Windsor on his recent stable debut and he's still well weighted under his penalty. The final leg of this Lucky 15 bet is OLD IS GOLD in the closing race of the day, the 5f Windsor Castle Stakes (6.10). He confirmed his debut promise when winning a strong Beverley race in a good time and he has decent claims of making the first five, which Sky Bet is paying out on in this race. Shackleton (3.05, Ascot) @ 11/4 with Sky Bet (1/5 for first 4 places) Cinderella's Dream (3.40, Ascot) @ 13/8 with Sky Bet (1/5 for first 3 places) Silawi (5.00, Ascot) @ 20/1 with Sky Bet (1/5 for first 7 places) Old Is Gold (6.10, Ascot) @ 11/2 with Sky Bet (1/5 for first 5 places) Selection: 0.10pt each-way Lucky 15 with Sky Bet (total 3pts) A £0.10p each-way Lucky 15 – for a total stake of £3 – on those four horses offers a potential return of £294.94. Royal Ascot Day 2 each-way tip OLD IS GOLD looks a sound bet at 11/2 in the Windsor Castle Stakes (6.10), with Sky Bet paying five places for each-way bets. His debut third over course and distance is strong form and he confirmed that promise when winning another decent race at Beverley in a sharp time. Last year's winner of the Beverley race went on to win the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot. In addition, Old Is Gold's trainer Andrew Balding saddled the winner of the Beverley event in 2022, Chateau, who went on to finish fourth in the Windsor Castle Stakes. There seems a fair chance this one can get in the money as well and he might prove good enough to win. Odds provided by Sky Bet and correct at the time of writing. Stars denote strength of selection (maximum five). Check out the best Royal Ascot free bets and betting offers Lucky 15 explained There are 'multiple' bet options that can be a good way of still getting paid out even if certain runners let you down, and a Lucky 15 is one of the classics. This bet is made up of four selections, with single bets on each of them (four bets), six doubles (all the combinations of the four selections), as well as four trebles and one four-fold accumulator. Clue's in the name, that's 15 bets in total. That might seem like a lot of bets but you can stake accordingly and, as the odds build, these options can return substantial payouts even to a relatively small lay-out. What is an each-way bet? An each-way bet is a popular type of wager, particularly with horse racing fans. It is essentially two bets, both of which have the same size stake. An each-way bet features one bet on the selection to win and the other bet on the selection to place. So a £10 each-way bet will cost you a total of £20. There will be one £10 bet on the selection to win and another £10 on the selection to place. It's a popular bet because it offers punters the chance of a return, even if the horse in question fails to win. Bookmakers will pay out at a stated percentage of the odds for a place finish, for example one-fifth of the SP for finishing in the first three. The more runners there are in a horse race, the more places will be on offer. In races that feature lots of runners, the horses will be available at bigger odds, making an each-way bet a wise choice. Star ratings explained ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - confident selection ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - strong fancy ⭐⭐⭐ - fair claims ⭐⭐ - tentative choice ⭐ - minimum confidence

‘I didn't like what happened' – Pep Guardiola in dig at Kyle Walker decision as four-man Man City captain group chosen

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) PEP GUARDIOLA aimed a dig at Kyle Walker after revealing his four-man captaincy group. The Manchester City boss confirmed his new set of skippers for the 2025-26 season. 4 Pep Guardiola took a subtle swipe at Kyle Walker over the Manchester City captaincy Credit: EPA It comes after the shambles last year which saw the players pick Kyle Walker - only for the full-back to quit the club midway through the season to join AC Milan on loan. Guardiola admitted he was not pleased with how the situation unfolded. So this time around, he has taken matters into his own hands and appointed his captains - rather than let the squad choose. With Walker's set to leave and part-time captain Kevin De Bruyne released, Guardiola has opted for Bernardo Silva, Rodri, Ruben Dias and Erling Haaland as his leadership quartet. This season, for the first time in my career, I decided it would be my captain. "I didn't like what happened last season and I decided this season who will represent the team. 'Sometimes I want to be the boss, and this season I decided to do it, so I chose the four captains and at the end of the Club World Cup, maybe we will choose one or two more." Pressed on Haaland's promotion aged just 24, Guaridola added: 'He's so young, right, but he has to start to learn what it means to be a captain, because he will be here, hopefully, for many, many years, and that's why, sooner or later, he will take that position as the first one. Haaland could take the armband during the Club World Cup, with City beginning their campaign against Wydad on Wednesday. But one man who won't be involved is Jack Grealish. The £100m record signing was left out of the squad for the United States with his City future in doubt. Guardiola revealed it was decided it was best that Grealish "didn't come here" as he looks to resolve his future - and gave the playmaker advice on how to reignite his stagnating career. SunSport revealed Napoli have joined Newcastle, Bayer Leverkusen and Everton in the race for Grealish's signature. Should he end up at Everton, he may well be reunited with Walker. SunSport also told how the right-back has agreed a one-year deal at the Hill Dickson Stadium - after Milan opting against making his loan switch permanent. 4 Erling Haaland and Ruben Dias are among the City captains for 2025-26 Credit: Getty
