In a statement released by the development team and shared by Gematsu on May 14, Square Enix expressed regret over the decision, offering apologies to fans who had been anticipating the game's release. 'Although we worked hard on developing and adjusting the game… we determined that it would be difficult for us to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time,' the company stated.
The developers also extended thanks to players who participated in the closed beta testing phases and supported the project during its early stages. The cancellation comes despite extensive development efforts aimed at creating a mobile experience tailored for long-term player engagement.
Despite the setback, Square Enix reaffirmed its commitment to the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Development on Kingdom Hearts IV remains ongoing. The company assured fans that the series remains a priority, stating, 'We are hard at work on Kingdom Hearts IV, and hope you'll continue to support the series as you keep an eye out for further updates.'
No new details or release timeline have been shared for Kingdom Hearts IV at this time.

Fake TikTok shops linked to malware campaign targeting cryptocurrency

Cybercriminals are exploiting TikTok's shopping feature to distribute malware and steal funds from unsuspecting users. Reported by cybersecurity firm CMT360, the scheme involves fraudsters creating convincing imitations of legitimate e-commerce profiles, often using AI-generated content to bolster credibility. These fake 'TikTok Shops' - also seen on Facebook - advertise steep discounts to lure potential buyers. Once users click through, they are redirected to phishing portals disguised as genuine retail sites. According to CTM360, more than 10,000 fraudulent URLs have been traced to TikTok Wholesale and Mall pages. 🚨 15,000+ fake TikTok Shop domains are being used in an AI-powered scam campaign dubbed ClickTok, blending phishing, malware, and crypto theft into one deceptive funnel. Some operations go further, posing as affiliate management services and distributing malicious apps designed to compromise sellers' devices, as reported by TechRadar. One identified strain, dubbed SparkKitty, has the capability to harvest sensitive information from both Android and iOS devices, enabling long-term surveillance and control. Investigators say over 5,000 malicious download sources - often spread via embedded links or QR codes - have been uncovered in connection with the campaign. 🚨ALERT: Fake TikTok Clones Target Crypto Users Cyber firm CTM360 warns of 'FraudonTok' 15K+ fake TikTok sites & apps using AI deepfakes + SparkKitty malware to steal seed phrases. 🧠 Tip: Never store seed phrases on your phone. — BeInCrypto (@beincrypto) August 8, 2025 The attackers frequently use high-pressure sales tactics, such as countdown timers and 'flash sales,' to prompt snap decisions. Many of the fraudulent sites operate under low-cost domain extensions like '.top', '.shop', and '.icu', allowing them to be set up quickly and inexpensively. CMT360 urge users to verify web addresses before entering payment details, avoid direct cryptocurrency or wire transfers, and install robust security software to block malicious sites. 'Even professional-looking storefronts can conceal highly sophisticated scams,' CTM360 noted.

Proton launches new, 2FA authenticator app

Proton, the privacy-centric productivity tool company, has unveiled its latest offering - a new authenticator app designed to bolster online security with dynamically generated two-factor authentication (2FA) codes. The authenticator app, which was announced through a blog post, is now available for free across all major platforms, including iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, and Linux. Proton Authenticator promises to add an extra layer of protection for users' online accounts. The app allows seamless syncing of login codes and accounts across multiple devices. Proton stresses that, like its other services, Proton Authenticator is open-source and utilises end-to-end encryption to safeguard user data, ensuring a secure and transparent user experience. Proton releases a new app for two-factor authentication | TechCrunch — TechCrunch (@TechCrunch) July 31, 2025 "Two-factor authentication is essential for everyone - not just those who care about their privacy," said Eamonn Maguire, Head of Account Security at Proton. "We believe strong security should never come at the cost of convenience or privacy," he added, highlighting the company's focus on giving users full control over their data and how they access their accounts. Proton Authenticator simplifies the process by enabling users to easily import their login codes from other authentication apps, and it automatically backs up the codes for future use. Additionally, the app functions offline, providing users with 2FA codes even when they don't have an active internet connection, as reported by Tech Crunch. Proton's continued product expansion also saw the recent release of its privacy-first AI chatbot, Lumo, which doesn't retain any conversation records or use user data to train its models. With the launch of Proton Authenticator, the company strengthens its commitment to privacy, ensuring that users can protect their accounts without relying on larger tech companies like Google or Microsoft.
