Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Dave Navarro marries Vanessa DuBasso in gothic castle wedding in Scotland
Rock guitarist Dave Navarro married actress and fashion designer Vanessa DuBasso on March 29 at Scotland's Dunskey Estate. The couple, together for eight years, chose the Edwardian castle for its "moody, ethereal charm," according to DuBasso.
The ceremony featured a gothic, darkly romantic atmosphere, with chandeliers hanging from trees and gold candelabra at the altar. DuBasso wore a Victorian-inspired white gown with black accents and angel wings, symbolising Navarro's nickname for her, "breathing cherub." Navarro donned an all-black ensemble from Generation Tux.

Guests, including comedian Pete Davidson, enjoyed a reception in the castle's dungeon, dining on pasta, filet mignon, seafood, and traditional Scottish desserts. The wedding cake, inspired by the Swedish princess cake, featured white icing with black cathedral patterns and roses.
Post-wedding festivities included gun shooting, owl encounters, a barbecue in the woods, and a beach bonfire. The couple plans to honeymoon in Edinburgh, exploring historic castles and searching for holy relics, a lifelong fascination of Navarro's.
Navarro and DuBasso met when Navarro saw a movie trailer featuring DuBasso and reached out through a mutual friend. DuBasso recalls being drawn to Navarro's "green chestnut eyes, tattoos, and dark comedic humour," describing it as love at first sight.
The couple credits their relationship with personal growth and overcoming struggles, with DuBasso stating, "Dave saved me from myself." They look forward to settling in a nature-immersed home, away from the chaotic world, to create their "little life."

'Game of Thrones' star Liam Cunningham sets sail for Gaza
Both public figures have been vocal in their solidarity with Palestine. Photos: file Irish actor Liam Cunningham, 64, famous for playing Davos Seaworth in HBO's Game of Thrones series, has announced that he will be joining 11 activists in their attempt to break the Israeli siege on Gaza. Cunningham has been vocal in his support for Palestine since the Israeli bombings began in 2023, and he is joined in the cause by Greta Thunberg, a renowned Swedish climate activist. Member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan will also be accompanying the group. The group set sail on Sunday on the boat Madleen, operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC). The journey is expected to take seven days if they are not hindered. As reported previously by Al Jazeera, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition had attempted to sail the vessel Conscience in early May, but it was attacked by Israeli drones while passing through Maltese waters. Cunningham has been documenting and sharing their progress on social media. According to a press release by the FFC, the boat is named Madleen after Gaza's first and only fisherwoman in 2014, symbolising the "unyielding spirit of Palestinian resilience and the growing global resistance to Israel's use of collective punishment and deliberate starvation policies." In a press release on the UN Office of Human Rights Commission website, experts called for safe passage for the Freedom Flotilla Coalition's ship carrying essential aid supplies to Gaza. They expressed concern for Israel's disregard for international laws and its constant attacks on humanitarian aid workers. "Aid is desperately needed for the people of Gaza to forestall annihilation, and this initiative is a symbolic and powerful effort to deliver it. Israel should remember that the world is watching closely and refrain from any act of hostility against the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and its passengers," the experts said. "The people of Gaza have the right to receive aid through their own territorial waters even under occupation, and the Coalition ship has the right to free passage in international waters to reach the people of Gaza," they said. "Israel must not interfere with its freedom of navigation, long recognised under international law." Call for solidarity Another Irish supporter of Palestine who made news this week is the Irish MMA Fighter Paddy McCorry, who shouted "Free Palestine" while tackling his Israeli opponent, Shuki Farage, in an act of solidarity with Gaza on Saturday. This event happened at the Cage Warriors 189 event in Rome, Italy, where he also raised the Palestinian Flag after his win. He shared the viral clip of this win and captioned it "Street justice". According to the UN World Food Program, more than 70,000 children and 17,000 women in Gaza need urgent treatment for acute malnutrition. They state on their website that "more than 116,000 metric tons of food assistance – enough to feed 1 million people for up to 4 months – is ready to be brought into Gaza if the blockade is lifted." Earlier, actors, musicians, activists and other public figures wrote a letter calling on Prime Minister Keir Starmer to "end the UK's complicity in the horrors in Gaza". British-Albanian pop sensation Dua Lipa has been vocal about the war in Gaza and last year criticised Israel's offensive as a "genocide". Other signatories include actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton and Riz Ahmed, and musicians Paloma Faith, Annie Lennox and Massive Attack.

Restaurant review: Da Noi knows how to marry flavours
In a city teeming with flashy new openings and formulaic café menus, Da Noi brings something far rarer to the table: restraint. Located in Karachi's ever-expanding upscale dining circuit, Da Noi feels like a restaurant with nothing to prove and everything to offer. From its minimal Bauhaus-inspired interiors to a menu rooted in refined simplicity, this is certainly not your run-of-the-mill eatery. We started with the roasted bell pepper soup, a velvety, indulgent opening note. While the pepper's smoky essence played a more supporting role to the soup's buttery base, the overall effect was comforting — exactly the kind of richness Karachi's cool evenings call for. The garlic bread alongside was excellent: crisp, fragrant, and generously portioned. The citrus quinoa medley arrived next, looking like a summer garden in a bowl. Bursts of watermelon, the crunch of candied walnuts, hints of maple, and the slight bitterness of rocket all played their parts. The quinoa could've used more spotlight, and the 'citrus' barely made itself known; the salad, on the whole, was a well-balanced starter and marked a welcome departure from the overdressed greens seen elsewhere. From the appetisers, the seared beef with spicy soy glaze stood out. Served medium, the meat was tender, with a delicate char that gave it an earthy edge. The soy glaze was amazingly just as fiery as the name might suggest, the umami competing with the spice, which worked well in its favour. Even for diners not typically drawn to red meat, this dish makes a strong case. The sundried tomato grilled chicken was another crowd-pleaser. Juicy, flavourful, and plated over a generous bed of fresh rocket and feta, the dish offered depth and texture. The baked potato on the side — crispy-edged and fluffy inside — was an especially welcome touch. This is the kind of plate that satisfies with its generous portion, but never feels overwhelming. If the meal had a weaker link, it was the pesto prawn linguine. While the prawns were cooked just right and the serving large enough to rival most mains in the city, the pesto lacked brightness. A squeeze of lemon or a little more seasoning might have added dimension, but it's a small complaint in an otherwise well-thought-out spread. Dessert came in the form of a cheesecake with fruit compote, or rather, fruit scattered neatly over the top. While purists might expect a true compote, the cheesecake itself was rich and decadent, with a biscuity base that delivered exactly the crunch you want at the end of a meal. Verdict: While the spice doesn't always deliver the bold heat it promises, Da Noi's strength lies in its sophisticated, velvety layering of flavours. This is a restaurant that trusts its ingredients and pairs thoughtful cooking with attentive service and an ambient dining experience truly considerate of its guests.
