'Clarke must go' or 'only a friendly defeat'
It is fair to say many Scotland fans are raging with Friday's 3-1 home defeat by Iceland. We asked for your views and the consensus is that Steve Clarke has lost his way as head coach, even past his sell-by date, with the players underachieving considering the talent at his disposal. As their team prepare for Monday's friendly in Liechtenstein, the Tartan Army want him to freshen up his squad, change his tactics, or just go...
'Don't blame Slicker - blame Clarke'
Much of the spotlight on Friday was on goalkeeping errors from debutant substitute goalkeeper Cieran Slicker, but most fans think the 22-year-old should not be blamed for what are seen as more widespread problems.Alan: An absolute shocker of a performance against Iceland, with the horrific goalkeeping situation coming to the fore. Only George Hirst came close to pass marks. World Cup qualification hopes look slim at best and Clarke's future surely has to be in doubt. The team look to be lacking any ambition and inspiration.Weegiedoh: Put Slicker in the next game. It was not his fault Scotland were poor. They never protected the young guy. We had nothing to play for and it looked like the players were just going through the motions. Clarke is not the man to take us into the World Cup games. Franny: That is as bad a performance as I have witnessed in six decades as a Scotland fan. We have been woeful recently. Creatively barren and boring. Time for a new coaching team with fresh ideas? Definitely.Jim: Clarke should have gone after the Euros and should go now before the World Cup campaign starts, or we definitely won't qualify. That was awful again and for how much longer is the SFA going to sit back and expect fans to pay good money to watch abject performances like that?. Ian: Scotland looked like an ageing team coming to the end of their cycle. Clarke has to realise it's time up for Grant Hanley and the Kieran Tierney/Andy Robertson set-up is done. A younger injection was needed after the last Euros. I see no chance of reaching the World Cup.Jarek: Very disappointing and uninspiring. We need to find a way to attack far more effectively as we look toothless. As for the defending and goalkeeping - don't get me started. Only saving grace is we tend to be far better in qualifying matches.
'Clarke lacks ideas and is too loyal'
Some of you fear for Scotland's chances should Clarke still be in charge for the start of the World Cup qualifying campaign in September.Keith: Clarke has to go. He is devoid of ideas and the players are not motivated any more. He has one of the strongest midfields in Europe but can't do anything with it. His only decent results recently were entirely down to Ben Doak. He is holding the players back rather than developing the squad. Duncan: How can players be doing so brilliantly for their clubs and so badly for their country. Some of the older players need to be retired, but the team must find some fire and passion for the World Cup campaign. Clarke should change or go.Scott: It's not the team, it's the management. Experience and loyalty, such as Clarke has showed with Hanley and Robertson, is not a bad thing. But when the manager has lost that edge, as Clarke clearly has, it's time to go. The young keeper was at fault, but the atmosphere and lack of direction in the team, no doubt affected him.Alexander: I really feel we need to start playing younger players. Grant Hanley is clearly at the end of his career and it's shown in every international since the Euros. David: Clarke just isn't inventive. He is absolutely devoid of any ideas and should've walked after the Germany debacle.Martin: The pool of players in the Scottish team have all been successful at their clubs. And yet they are unable to play a co-ordinated organised game for Scotland. However, Scotland was having success with these players in the past, so what has changed? I think the root of the problem lies with the coaching staff, the tactics employed, and poor preparation.Scott: Clarke has to go - now. How many excuses for insipid performances? He sticks with people who are not delivering. His selections are unadventurous and uninspiring. The crowd now expects failure. He cannot get a performance out of these players - see the Euros. Time for a change now before we lose the first two World Cup qualifiers and have nothing to do for the next two years.
'Overreaction to a friendly'
There were, however, a few dissenting voices among the Tartan Army.Steve: These are friendly games where we learn about our strengths and weaknesses, which have been highlighted. Agreed, the performances are worrying, but if we can get them correct, the only games that will be important will be the World Cup qualifiers. If Scotland learn from this then we can have a good chance of qualifying and hopefully do well in the group stages in in 2026.Ryan: Tough one to take but is only friendly. Not great for momentum but bit of an overreaction from fans in my opinion. Luckily, when it comes to qualifiers, Clarke has a great record and will return right back to basics in September - our best chance in qualifying for sometime.Callum: Dire stuff at the moment, but keep the faith. Only one more friendly then the real football.

Live Portugal vs Spain live: Lineups and latest updates from Nations League final
6:45PM Nations League trophy up for grabs We are in Munich for the Nations League final and it is a battle of the Iberian Peninsula as Portugal take on Spain for the trophy. These sides have both lifted this trophy (Portugal in 2019 and Spain 2023) and whichever side comes out on top today will become the first side to win this tournament twice. Portugal earned their place in the final with a come-from-behind win over Germany last Wednesday. Florian Wirtz had given Germany the lead in Munich on Wedneday but goals from Francisco Conceicao and Cristiano Ronaldo turned the game around for Portugal as they ran out 2-1 winners. That winner from Ronaldo was his 137 th goal in 220 international caps and took him to 937 career goals. Spain meanwhile, who are the defending Nations League champions, were involved in an absolute thriller in Stuttgart on Thursday night. They beat France 5-4 in the semi-finals, having been 4-0 and 5-1 up. Today is the first time that 17-year-old Lamine Yamal, who is in contention for this year's Ballon d'Or, comes up against the five-time winner of that award Cristiano Ronaldo. 40-year-old Ronaldo is coming towards the end of his career but Yamal is very much at the start. But despite being just 17-years-old, he has already won the European Championship for Spain and two La Liga titles with Barcelona. Speaking ahead of tonight's final, Ronaldo was full of praise for the young Spaniard. 'This kid has been doing things really well at a club and national team that help him very much. It is a great atmosphere for him to show his quality. Let him grow, do not put him under pressure so we can enjoy a talent like this for many years. I would like to take pressure off him and leave him alone. He has got plenty of talent.' Yamal repaid the favour to the 40-year-old. 'He is a football legend. I, like all the players, have huge respect for Cristiano. This is the kind of game I want to play, to prove who I am.' Spain are unbeaten in their last ten Nations League matches outside of Spain, winning six and drawing four. Spain have definitely had the better of the head-to-heads; they have won 19 of the 42 meetings, with Portugal winning just six meetings. These sides last met in September 2022, when Spain won 1-0 in Portugal in the Nations League courtesy of Alvaro Morata's late winner. In the third/fourth play-off earlier today, France beat Germany 2-0 in Stuttgart. Kick-off from Munich is at 8pm.

Russell Martin ready to raid former club Southampton as Rangers manager makes £10m-rated midfielder top transfer target
PLAYMAKER Flynn Downes is top of Russell Martin's wishlist at Rangers — but he will get no favours from his old club Southampton. Martin took Downes, 26, to the Prem with the Saints from West Ham and previously had him at Swansea. 3 3 Downes could fancy the Scottish Prem over the Championship but the fee will be over £10million — which would be a big chunk of Martin's budget. He will be busy in the transfer market after being handed £20m to overhaul the squad and may raid England a few times. Left-back Harry Toffolo is set to quit Nottingham Forest and is interested in a switch to Ibrox after playing only a handful of games late last season. Martin will inherit Jefte and Ridvan Yilmaz as left-backs, but the Turk has been heavily linked with a return home. Veteran Leicester City defender Conor Coady is also on Gers' radar. Meanwhile, Martin insists he has no plans to strip James Tavernier of the Rangers captaincy. He said: 'He's been the captain for a very long time. If he's playing, I don't see any reason to change that. And if he's not playing, it will force someone else. 'First and foremost, I want to speak to him to explain to me and have a discussion about the last two years, his thoughts on the team. 'To play here as long as he has, to be captain as long as he has, takes a lot of energy. It's not easy. 'It will be down to him in the way he performs and the way he buys into it, which I'm pretty sure he will.' Rangers fans react to news Russell Martin is their new manager 3

Portugal vs Spain - Nations League Final: Live score, team news and updates as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lamine Yamal face off for the first time
...they pull me back in! I don't know about you, but I was ready to draw the curtain on this season's footballing action after the Champions League final but the semi-final clashes in the Nations League in the week have whetted the appetite once again. Just over the week after PSG destroyed Inter Milan to claim their first European Cup, the Allianz Arena will play host to the final of this fledgling international competition, which always seems to threaten to become a big deal. Perhaps tonight's game between Spain and Portugal can really cement its legacy. La Roja are looking to claim their third major trophy in as many years after winning the 2023 edition of this tournament and the 2024 European Championship. Luis de la Fuente's side are the overwhelming favourites to prevail against their Iberian neighbours who have not managed to beat them since 2010. This Spain team look incapable of suffering defeat against any team in the world right now. That, of course, is in large part down to their boy wonder Lamine Yamal, who might actually leap to the front of the Ballon d'Or contenders with a starring role tonight - more of my thoughts on that later on. While the Spanish side is notable for their youth, Portugal are the golden oldies, led by their most golden and oldest oldie, Cristiano Ronaldo, who refuses to shift even an inch from centre stage. I have the feeling that Yamal might barge him off the stump altogether. The intriguing clash gets underway at 8pm but before that we'll be hear with all the updates, team news, manager quotes and fun bits we see in Munich.
