The Boston Red Sox should be very active at the MLB trade deadline, but just how big of a splash can they make?
The priorities for the Red Sox remain with starting pitching, a first baseman and bullpen help. That didn't stop Boston's 2004 World Series champion and MLB Network analyst Kevin Millar from throwing out a hypothetical for a future Hall of Famer.

Millar floated the idea of the Los Angeles Angels, who last made the postseason in 2014, finally trading Mike Trout to the contending Red Sox.
"Is Mike Trout available?" Millar asked in an MLB Network video on X. "Maybe. Did the Red Sox save $260 million when they got rid of (Rafael) Devers? Can you make a deal to get Mike Trout to the Boston Red Sox? Right-handed power, you never know."
Trout's tenure in Anaheim and Boston's outfield logjam are just a few reasons why this trade idea is highly unlikely, but this is the time of year for blockbuster rumors.
Trout sports an .836 OPS in 77 games with the Angels this season. Injuries have once again been an issue for Trout this season, as he's missed more than 20 games. That's borderline ironman stuff compared to recent campaigns, though; Trout played in just 111 games over the prior two seasons entering 2025. Trout hasn't played more than 134 games in a season since 2018.
And he's still signed through 2030.
In the same video, MLB Network host Greg Amsinger presented the idea for the Red Sox to trade for St. Louis Cardinals reliever Ryan Helsley to pair with All-Star closer Aroldis Chapman.

The Password at first base? It's a possibility soon according to Red Sox brass
WORCESTER — The Password is? 'A good player, huh?' WooSox manager Chad Tracy said. WooSox outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia — aka 'The Password' — hit a 441-foot grand slam in the third inning of Worcester's 5-1 win over Lehigh Valley Friday night. The ball exited Polar Park at 109.4 miles per hour. 'He smoked it,' Tracy said. 'He just crushed it. It sounded like a shotgun when he hit it.' The homer was Garcia's 13th since being called up from Double-A Portland to Triple-A Worcester on May 20, and he knocked his 14th on Saturday. After only hitting four home runs in 33 games with Portland this year, Garcia has more than tripled that amount in 53 games in Worcester. 'As soon as he got here, the home runs started showing up,' Tracy said. 'He's jumped right in and not just been good, but been one of our, if not our, best offensive players since he's shown up here.' Along with his flashy nickname and hitting, which includes a batting line of .300 with 42 RBIs and 21 walks in Worcester, Garcia also has flashed his glove in all three outfield spots with the WooSox. Yet, the Red Sox' No. 2 prospect (per could be flashing some new leather at a new position soon. After Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reported Garcia may see some time at first base in the upcoming weeks, Boston Red Sox senior director of player development Brian Abraham confirmed with the T&G that Garcia could start taking ground balls at first base during Worcester's upcoming home series with Buffalo, which begins Aug. 5. Tracy verified that information ahead of his team's game Aug. 2 but wants to discuss it further with WooSox defensive coach Iggy Suarez, and Garcia, before announcing any definitive next steps. 'If we start to do that, it's likely going to be a slow start to introduce stuff to him and see how he even takes to it,' Tracy said. 'And when we say that, it's like if you take them over there and it looks awful or you feel it could be aborted right away. But it just might be something we start introducing to him here in the near future.' Last year, Garcia led all Red Sox minor leaguers in homers and was added to Boston's 40-man roster in the offseason. 'This guy loves the big moment,' Tracy said. With Garcia staying with the organization, after reportedly being involved in a few possible proposals at Thursday's MLB trade deadline, the Red Sox are opening the door for a possible path to Boston for their lone selection to the 2025 All-Star Futures Game — via first base. 'The Password' getting work in at first base, making strides to play position next week with WooSox
WORCESTER — Jhostynxon Garcia keeps swinging a hot bat in Triple-A Worcester. And soon the outfielder nicknamed 'The Password' could be rocking a new glove. After reports circulated last week that Garcia may see time at first base with the WooSox, the No. 2 prospect in the Red Sox organization (per rankings) went through introductory turf work with ground balls ahead of Worcester's win Sunday. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Venezuelan-born Garcia worked on his footwork around the bag and receiving throws at first base prior to playing center field for the WooSox in back-to-back games. So could we soon see "The Password" play in a game at first base? 'Maybe, who knows?' Garcia told the T&G through translator and WooSox defensive coach Iggy Suarez. 'Maybe (in) a week, I'll be able to be comfortable enough.' 'Let's see how (it) goes,' WooSox manager Chad Tracy said. 'But we're progressing towards that for sure.' The whole first base discussion aside, Garcia has been scorching hot as of late at the plate for Triple-A Worcester. The 22-year-old was named International League Player of the Week (from July 28 to Aug. 3) after batting .417 (10 for 24) with 4 doubles, 4 home runs, 13 RBIs and 8 runs in six games. He also played in all three outfield spots for the WooSox. 'He showed, in a full week, all the different skills and tools he has and the ways he can impact a game on both sides of the ball,' Tracy said. 'It was a really, really good week for him.' Among his highlights for the week, Garcia hit a grand slam and clobbered homers in three straight games — traveling distances of 441, 356 and 380 feet, respectively. In 55 games with the WooSox this season, Garcia is batting .312 with 15 home runs (to lead the team) and 47 RBIs. He began the year with Double-A Portland and played in 33 games (.256/3/17) before being promoted to Worcester on May 20. 'He has been awesome,' Tracy said. With Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu (and veterans Rob Refsynder and Masataka Yoshida) making up a crowded outfield in Boston, the Red Sox decided to see what Garcia can offer at first base following an MLB trade deadline upon which the club opted not to add any position players from outside the organization. Since starting first baseman Triston Casas suffered a season-ending injury on May 2, the Red Sox have platooned Abraham Toro and Romy Gonzalez at the position in Boston. But with The Password knocking on the door for a call up to the big leagues, the organization is seeing how he fares at first base in Worcester to see if Garcia can give them a little flexibility at the position during the stretch run. 'Our outfield situation in the big leagues is pretty clear cut,' Tracy said. Already in his fifth professional season since the Red Sox signed him as an international free agent in July 2019, Garcia was added to Boston's 40-man roster this past offseason. Now the steady outfielder — with a hot bat — is tackling a new challenge with Worcester: first base. Garcia is hoping to help the Red Sox with their playoff push in any capacity necessary. '(I'm) willing to do whatever the team asks,' Garcia said. 'Anything to help contribute and, obviously, those guys are winning up there. Caminero homers twice to reach 30 in the Rays' 5-4 victory over the Angels
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Junior Caminero hit his 29th and 30th homers, Christopher Morel had a go-ahead shot and six Tampa Bay pitchers combined to strike out 16 in the Rays' 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday. Caminero hit a career-long 447-foot shot with a man on in the first, and had a solo homer in the third. Morel was 0 for 6 with six strikeouts in the series before hitting his solo homer in the seventh. Nick Fortes also homered, his first hit in five games with the Rays since being acquired from Miami. Starter Shane Baz struck out nine in four innings to help Tampa Bay win for the fourth time in 14 games. Garrett Cleavinger (1-4) was the winner, and Pete Fairbanks got his 19th save. Rays center fielder Jonny DeLuca left in the sixth with right hamstring tightness after legging out a triple. DeLuca was reinstated from the 60-day IL (right shoulder strain) on July 25.
