Reds designate INF Jeimer Candelario for assignment
June 23 - The Cincinnati Reds designated infielder Jeimer Candelario for assignment on Monday, just halfway through a three-year, $45 million contract he signed before the 2024 season.
Candelario, 31, had been on the injured list since late April due to a lumbar spine strain. The Reds reinstated him from the IL on Monday in order to DFA the veteran first and third baseman.
"At the end of the day, you have to look at it as a sunk cost because you can't bring a player that's not going to help his team win," Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall told The Athletic.
Candelario played in 22 games, with 12 starts at third base and seven starts at first, before going on the IL. He batted an abysmal .113 (9-for-80) with two home runs and 10 RBIs.
In his first season in Cincinnati, he made 112 appearances and batted .225 with 20 homers, 23 doubles and 56 RBIs.
Following stints with the Chicago Cubs (2016-17) and Detroit Tigers (2017-22), Candelario had one of the best seasons of his career in 2023, split between the Washington Nationals and Cubs. He batted .251 with career highs of 22 homers and 70 RBIs, prompting the Reds to pursue him in free agency.
The Reds are moving forward with Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Noelvi Marte and Spencer Steer as their main corner infielders.

Diamondbacks pummel White Sox 10-0 to open series
June 24 - Pavin Smith hit two home runs to drive in four, Ketel Marte homered among his three hits and Eduardo Rodriguez pitched six strong innings as the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks routed the Chicago White Sox 10-0 on Monday. Arizona out-hit Chicago 13-5, roughing up White Sox starter Shane Smith and four relievers on the way to its fourth win in five games. The White Sox have lost 10 of 12. Josh Naylor provided all the offense the Diamondbacks needed with a two-run double in the first inning. Pavin Smith smacked a three-run shot in the second and went back-to-back with Marte against reliever Dan Altavilla in the fourth. Rodriguez (3-4) cruised behind the early support, limiting the White Sox to five hits in six shutout innings while striking out 10 against two walks. He has won each of his five career starts at Rate Field. Anthony DeSclafani scattered two walks without a hit to earn a three-inning save. Arizona third baseman Eugenio Suarez, the reigning National League Player of the Week, left the game in the first inning after being hit on the right hand by a pitch. The Diamondbacks called the injury a right hand contusion and said X-rays were negative. Naylor left in the fourth after experiencing right shoulder discomfort and is day-to-day. Shane Smith (3-5) endured the shortest of his 15 career starts. He allowed five runs and four hits in two innings with two walks, one hit batsman and two strikeouts. Edgar Quero (second inning) and Kyle Teel (fifth) contributed leadoff doubles against Rodriguez but the White Sox came up scoreless both times. Vinny Capra singled with one out in the fifth to give Chicago two baserunners before Chase Meidroth grounded into an inning-ending double play. Jose Herrera delivered RBI singles in the fifth and ninth. The latter came against Capra, who started the game at third base and yielded a pair of unearned runs in the ninth. Ildemaro Vargas, who entered the game for Suarez, had two hits. Geraldo Perdomo added two hits, including an RBI double. Home plate umpire Ron Kulpa ejected Quero in the sixth for arguing balls and strikes. --Field Level Media

BREAKING NEWS Taylor Swift joins Travis Kelce in Nashville on the opening night of his NFL charity event
Taylor Swift made a surprise trip down to Nashville to join boyfriend and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce in hosting a meeting of the football minds on Monday night. Kelce was initially seen in the Music City for 'TEU' or 'Tight End University' - an NFL event he founded in 2021 with San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle and former Carolina Panthers star Greg Olsen. Later that night a launch party for took place at the cocktail bar L.A. Jackson in the city. Kelce, Olsen, and Kittle posed for photos on the red carpet before a picture emerged showing Swift at the bar with Kelce next to her. Her appearance marks a considerable show of support from the Eras Tour star on a night where the great and the good of the NFL gather together. Kelce has put a lot of work into staging the event in years gone by and his fellow co-hosts Kittle and Olsen had spent the day at the event with their families. It wasn't immediately clear how long Swift had been in Nashville but Kelce and his friends were holding a welcome reception at the glitzy bar to kickstart the three-day event. The event was initially established to bring tight ends together for a sense of community, but has since become an elite-level training event that also raises money for charity. Travis, Greg & George at the Welcome Party — 🏈👑 | fan acct. (@TayvisHaze) June 24, 2025 Multiple current and former NFL stars are set to participate in the training event, with 75 athletes confirmed to attend the fifth year of the 'conference'. According to PFN (Pro Football Network), players will be able to take part in film study, on-field activities, and off-field recovery tactics. This comes after Kelce treated himself and his boys to a golf trip out in the Hamptons over the weekend. Kelce and girlfriend Taylor Swift were spotted in New York City on Friday night grabbing dinner at Italian restaurant Torrisi, after the Chiefs tight end took a private jet to the Big Apple earlier in the day. And a day later, Kelce ventured to East Hampton Golf Club with his good friend Ross Travis - flying out in a helicopter before they hit the links. Kelce, who wore a white polo shirt, white baseball cap and khaki shorts, was photographed holding a canned beverage as he walked alongside his former Kansas City teammate Travis. The ultra-exclusive club, which opened in 2000, reportedly has an initiation fee of $400,000 for members, who are also said to need a net worth of at least $1million or earn more than $200,000 per year. According to the club's website, it's been recognized as a top 50 golf club in the country with a 'platinum club designation.' The 6,400-yard course also bans carts outside of members who are 'unable to walk the course' due to physical impairments. The club has just 250 memberships, its website says. Nonetheless, Kelce - who will top $111million in career earnings this season - was welcomed to the course for a day during the Chiefs offseason. Kelce and his friends could be seen returning to the helicopter later in the day, as the three-time Super Bowl winner held his golf shoes in one hand as he stepped aboard.
