India's fashion sector unveils sustainable supply chain directory
India's fashion sector launched the Sustainable Resolution (SU.RE) website and Sustainable Supply Chain Directory at the Bharat Tex 2025 trade show held from 12 to 17 February 2025.
The newly launched SU.RE website is designed to aid India's fashion industry with the transition towards sustainability.
The platform will offer educational materials, collaborative opportunities for stakeholders, manufacturers and brands.
The SU.RE website will also serve as a platform for sharing insights through news articles and case studies.
It has also unveiled the SU.RE sustainable supply chain directory, which is an open source directory that features over 600 authenticated suppliers spanning various sectors. This includes fabric production, recycling, sustainable packaging, and certification authorities.
The directory was created through a partnership with the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) and the Global Alliance for Textile Sustainability (GATS), offering a centralised hub for exchanging ideas, fostering innovation, and simplifying access to sustainable sourcing options.
In addition, SU.RE sustainable supply chain directory connects brands with vendors that specialise in sustainable materials and processes, such as eco-friendly fabrics, trims, manufacturing services, packaging solutions, and recycling.
It also hopes to encourage transparent communication and collaboration through dedicated sustainability programmes and events.
The directory's role is pivotal as India's sustainable fashion market is expected to surge to Rs250bn ($2.89bn) in FY30 from Rs27bn in FY24.
The SU.RE movement is said to be one of the largest collective pledges towards sustainability within India's fashion sector.
Launched by CMAI in collaboration with Reliance Brands Limited (RBL) and endorsed by the United Nations in India, SU.RE has been actively promoting responsible sourcing, the use of eco-friendly materials, and ethical manufacturing practices since its inception in 2019.
SU.RE has a five-point guide that aims to help the industry's shift toward sustainability:
Environmental awareness: Recognising the environmental impact of garment production
Sustainable sourcing: Choosing certified raw materials with positive environmental effects
Responsible decision-making: Ensuring sustainability throughout the value chain via traceable, renewable materials and processes
Transparent communication: Engaging consumers and media through product labelling, social media, and in-store messaging
Long-term commitment: Striving for significant sustainability progress by 2030, addressing climate change, and supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
"India's fashion sector unveils sustainable supply chain directory" was originally created and published by Just Style, a GlobalData owned brand.

Be delighted by local farmers & small businesses at new Johnson County general store
The old white house at 11405 Johnson Drive, just west of the heart of downtown Shawnee, has hosted several occupants over the years: a law office, a chiropractor's clinic, a gift shop called The Red Thread. On Wednesday, Franklin General Store opened in the space. Owners Brooke and Dave Franklin have stocked it with a curated blend of the practical and the artisanal: organic strawberries from Happy Hollow Farm, bread from Overland Park's Wooden Spoon KC, and small-batch cheeses from Hemme Brothers Creamery — all made without preservatives, artificial colors, or hard-to-pronounce chemicals. 'Besides farmers markets, there aren't a lot of opportunities for local farmers to get their products out there,' said Brooke, who previously worked for the USDA's Natural Resource Conservation Service, an agency that helps farmers become more sustainable. 'I wanted to create a place where you could go to get local, support local, and also know you're getting clean ingredients.' Franklin General Store carries goods from about 50 local farms or producers. The store was developed with help from a $55,000 SEED (Shawnee Entrepreneurial and Economic Development) loan, part of a city program that supports small business growth downtown. The loan is partially forgivable as jobs are created or other goals are met. The store offers rotating baked goods (on opening day, it was a peach bar) and plans to roll out grab-and-go sandwiches soon, made with local bread, meats, and produce. On tap: kombucha. In the cooler: pies, chicken sausages, steaks and other local meats. And tucked in one aisle, a collection of lotions and balms that wouldn't look out of place in a high-end apothecary — but come from nearby farms. It's not all edible. Franklin's also stocks Valley Feed from Bonner Springs for backyard chickens, plus birdseed and native grass seeds to support pollinators and local wildlife. Open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Franklin's aims to serve the growing number of daytime strollers exploring downtown Shawnee. 'There's more nightlife around here now, but we're also seeing more people walking around during the day,' Brooke said. 'So we're trying to serve some of those people and take advantage of a little bit of that new foot traffic.'

A Tonic And Mixers Company Now Uses All-American-Made Packaging
Top Note Tonic receives its first shipment of product in new, 10-ounce, American sourced bottles. A switch in bottle sizes has led a Midwest tonic and mixers company to not only reduce its carbon footprint but to source nearly all of its ingredients and packaging from the United States, particularly the Midwest. Top Note Tonic just switched from 8.5 ounce bottles to 10 ounce bottles this past month, leading the brand one step closer to fulfilling their goals of becoming the 'most sustainable mixer brand in the market,' says Mary Pellettieri, co-founder. 'When COVID-19 hit, we were in a jam with finding glass bottles,' Pellettieri says. 'Originally, we purchased our bottles through our co-packer, and it was nice because we didn't have to worry about storing glass, but then COVID hit, and we recognized that it's a real risk for us not to have a little more control over the sourcing.' A lot of glass supply tends to be global, and there are more limited choices left in the United States, with most bottle production targeting brewers or very large soft drink companies. That led many craft brewers to pivot to cans, but that also leaves 'less choice in bottle sizes, which hurts small soft drink companies, she notes. A 12-ounce bottle didn't make sense for Top Note's all-natural tonics and mixers, and though Top Note explored using cans, it also was more costly on a smaller scale. Working with Excel Bottling Co., Pellettieri and her team discovered a 10-ounce glass bottle being made by Aardaugh Glass in St. Louis. Top Note Tonic's mixers and tonic waters now come in 10-ounce glass bottles. 'They came back to us with this 10-ounce, traditional mixer bottle, and it was a glass bottle with metal-wrap, resealable lid, and we said 'This could work,'' Pellettieri says. 'The bottle also is the same height as a 12-ounce can so it can fit in a cooler with 12-ounce cans, and cooler placement is important with bars and restaurants.' The 10-ounce mixer also is 'an American bar standard.' 'It also is an area that helps differentiate ourselves more,' Pellettieri says. Besides Excel and Aardaugh, Top Note also works with Silgan Closures in Illinois and Indiana, Lauterbach Labels in Wisconsin, and Greenwood Juice in Illinois. Supply chain issues that arose during COVID may have led Pellettieri to seek out all-American and all-regional packaging sourcing, but today's tariffs make her grateful for the transition. Global Package notes the concerns over tariffs in the glass industry. 'For both the glass industry and its customers, the introduction of these tariffs raises important questions regarding pricing, supply chains and the broader implications for global trade.' According to the Brewers Association, there's also great concern about beer and 'empty aluminum cans' being subject to a 25 percent aluminum tariffs. 'I understand how hard it is sometimes to find the right products made in the United States,' Pellettieri says. 'It took us three years to find this solution.' Their 10-ounce can solution debuted just shortly before Top Note Classic Tonic earned a platinum medal at the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits, Ready To Drink Competition. This award, Pellettieri points out, has never been won by a traditional tonic water, making 'Top Note Classic Tonic one of the most awarded tonic waters in the world.' 'We're excited to build a Midwest supply chain,' Pellettieri says. 'Our goal is to be the lowest carbon footprint in the mixer industry.'
