James Gunn Confirms His DC Studios Role Is "Truly a Creative Force": 'I Write, I Direct' — GeekTyrant
In a recent interview with Rainn Wilson for Interview Magazine, Wilson joked about the complexities of running a studio, tossing out a sarcastic question about balancing creative work with corporate obligations like 'the new Superman's anus popcorn AMC tie-in.' Gunn laughed it off and made his real job clear.
"Listen, in all fairness, Peter Safran takes care of all the hard stuff. He is the guy that takes care of all the business aspects of everything. My job here is truly as a creative force.
'I write, I direct, and I deal with other writers and directors on their projects and help to usher them along the best I can."
That creative role includes shaping the future of the DCU, from script notes to helping guide the tone and vision of upcoming films and series.
"My time is limited so I can't give as much time as I would like to say, [Clayface director] James Watkins or [Supergirl director] Craig Gillespie or Chris Mundy working over on Lanterns.
'I make a lot of notes on cuts and notes on scripts and then just try to fit together what the overall plan is with all these characters."
I love how he says his time is limited, but he manages to spend so much of it on social media dealing with fans and rumors.
Since being appointed co-CEO of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran in 2022, Gunn hasn't slowed down creatively. He directed Superman , is writing and showrunning the second season of Peacemaker , and overseeing a slate of films and shows that make up DCU Chapter One.
So, while Peter Safran handles the spreadsheets and deal-making, Gunn stays locked in as the DCU's creative heart, guiding the stories, shaping the tone, and bringing a new DC vision to life without being distracted by the boring business logistics.

Hinds co-founded Mastodon in 2000 alongside bassist Troy Sanders, guitarist Bill Kelliher and drummer Brann Dailor. Mastodon has earned six Grammy nominations during their career, including one win for best metal performance in 2018. They are arguably best known for their albums 'The Hunter,' 'One More 'Round the Sun,' and 'Emperor of Sand.' Kennywood hosting two 21-plus nights
Kennywood is hosting two 21-plus nights to wrap up the summer. The park added its first 21-plus night last season, and this year, they're holding two events with longer hours and more food and drink locations. From 7 p.m. until midnight on Friday, Aug. 22 and Friday, Aug. 29, the park will exclusively open its gates for those 21 and older. Rides like the Steel Curtain, Phantom's Revenge, Kangaroo, Racer, Jack Rabbit, Black Widow and Exterminator will be open just for adults. There will also be beer, wine, specialty cocktails, a live DJ, karaoke, foam parties, games and more. To get in, guests have to have a dated event ticket or an eligible season pass. Kennywood's summer season has wound down, and now the park is looking ahead to Phantom Fall Fest. During the daytime, Phantom Fall Fest brings family-friendly fun to Kennywood, but when the clock hits 6 p.m., nearly 200 scare actors climb out of the shadows. Fan-favorite haunted houses like "mAlice in Wonderland Unleashed" and "Shady Grove" return this year. And there's a new haunted house, "Detached," which takes thrill-seekers through the "terrifying toy store of the Puppet Master." Most Kennywood rides and attractions will also be open throughout the day and all night long. Phantom Fall Fest will run select days from Friday, Sept. 12, through Saturday, Nov. 1. The park will be open from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays, noon until 11 p.m. on Saturdays and noon until 10 p.m. on Sundays.
