Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill to deliver annual Michael Collins address at Béal na Bláth
Each year, a commemoration is held at the site of his death on the Sunday closest to August 22.
Ms Carroll MacNeill said: 'It is an extraordinary honour to have been asked by the Michael Collins Commemoration Committee to speak at this year's Béal na Bláth commemoration.
'This significant event allows us to remember and honour the legacy of Michael Collins, whose vision, leadership, and unwavering dedication to our country and its people continue to inspire us all,' she added.
Ms Carroll MacNeill continued: 'His legacy of leadership and dedication to public service is something I see as I visit our healthcare community around the country and their unwavering dedication to caring for people.
'I am really looking forward to speaking at the commemoration and reflecting on Collins's legacy and values,' she said.
The address last year was delivered by then taoiseach Simon Harris, while in August 2023 the main address was delivered by former RTÉ northern editor, the late Tommie Gorman.
In August 2022, there was an historic address by the Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin when he became the first Fianna Fail Taoiseach to speak at a commemoration for Mr Collins.
He was joined by the then Tánaiste Leo Varadkar in delivering a joint oration.
Mr Collins was part of the delegation which signed the Anglo-Irish treaty in 1921, leading to a split in the Irish parliament and to the Irish Civil War.
Michael Collins was shot and killed during an ambush by anti-Treaty forces on August 22, 1922.
The identity of the shooter remains a mystery nearly 123 years later.
Descendants of Mr Collins will travel from across the world to attend the commemoration.
They will join the thousands of people who will travel from across Ireland to mark the anniversary of his death.

Ó hAnnaidh due before London court over terrorism charge
A member of the Irish rap trio Kneecap is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court in London later. Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, also known by his stage name Mo Chara, was charged with a terrorism offence last May. He is alleged to have displayed a flag in support of Hezbollah at a gig in London last year but denies the charge. Mr Ó hAnnaidh appeared before Westminster Magistrates' Court last June and was granted unconditional bail. During his appearance, his legal team argued that the terrorism charge brought against Mr Ó hAnnaidh was done so later than the six-month limit to bring such a charge. It is therefore his argument that the case should be dropped. The court will decide on this matter later today. According to London's Metropolitan Police, the terrorism offence is alleged to have happened at a gig last November at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, north London. The 27-year-old is accused of displaying a flag "in such a way or in such circumstances as to arouse reasonable suspicion that he is a supporter of a proscribed organisation". Mr Ó hAnnaidh has described the charge as "political" and insisted that the flag was thrown on stage. Kneecap has also branded the charge a "carnival of distraction" from the crisis in Gaza. A large crowd, comprising well-known activists and artists, are expected to gather outside the court this morning ahead of his appearance. Mr Ó hAnnaidh will also be accompanied by a high-profile legal team which includes Gareth Peirce, solicitor for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, and Rosalind Comyn, who has represented Extinction Rebellion protesters in court. His team also includes Darragh Mackin from Phoenix Law, Brenda Campbell KC, Jude Bunting KC and Blinne Ní Ghrálaigh KC, who was part of South Africa's legal team in its case against Israel, accusing the country of genocide.

Gerry Adams donates €100k BBC payout to causes including Gaza, the GAA and republican prisoners
GERRY ADAMS HAS said he has made donations to 'good causes' after the BBC paid the former Sinn Fein president €100,000 in defamation damages. The broadcaster lost a defamation case earlier this year after Adams took it to court over a 2016 episode of its Spotlight programme and an accompanying online story. They contained an allegation that Adams sanctioned the killing of former Sinn Féin official Denis Donaldson. Adams denied any involvement. In May, a jury at the High Court in Dublin found in his favour and awarded him €100,000 after determining that was the meaning of words included in the programme and article. Advertisement Johnsons Solicitors, which represented Adams in his action, announced today that the BBC has discharged the order of the court in relation to the compensation to their client. A BBC spokesperson said: 'We can confirm the BBC has now paid Gerry Adams 100,000 euros in damages as required by the court.' Adams said he intended to donate any damages awarded to good causes. The law firm said donations have been made to 'Unicef for the children of Gaza', local GAA organisations, a support group for republican prisoners and their families called An Cumman Cabhrach, to the Irish language sector, to the 'homeless and Belfast based-youth, mental health and suicide prevention projects' and others. The BBC, which was found by the jury not to have acted in good faith nor in a fair and reasonable way, was also ordered to pay the former Sinn Féin leader's legal costs, potentially in the order of millions. However, it is understood the final amount of costs have yet to be determined.

Heather Humphreys secures Fine Gael nomination for presidency
Heather Humphreys has secured the Fine Gael nomination for President after securing enough support within the parliamentary party. Such is the level of support that Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly cannot secure enough signatures to force a contest. The two hopefuls had announced their intention to seek Fine Gael's nomination after initial hopeful Mairead McGuinness withdrew, citing health concerns. Heather Humphreys. Mr Kelly said: 'I'll certainly seek the Fine Gael nomination. 'Unfortunately, Mairead McGuinness had to withdraw, and there's a process now over which we can seek nominations over the next five days. 'So I would be looking for the nomination and after that, and if I'm nominated, I would be greatly honoured to represent the party and stand for election for president.' Ms Humphreys, who held multiple cabinet positions, told the Joe Finnegan Show on Northern Sound radio: 'I have decided to go for it, and I will be seeking the Fine Gael nomination to be a candidate for the president of Ireland.' A presidential election is expected towards the end of October, as it must take place in the 60 days before the term of Michael D Higgins ends on November 11. To be eligible to run, a candidate must be an Irish citizen who is 35 or older. They must be nominated either by at least 20 members of the Oireachtas or by at least four local authorities. Former or retiring presidents can nominate themselves.
