Listen: Hozier duets with Barbra Streisand on classic song
The Wicklow singer is among big names such as Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, and Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande who appear on the veteran singer and actress' upcoming album The Secret Of Life: Partners, Volume Two, which is released in June.
Sting, Sam Smith, Seal, Josh Groban, country star Tim McGraw, and jazz chanteuse Laufey also appear on the new album.
The first single from the album is Hozier and Streisand's cover of Ewan MacColl's enduring song The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, which has also been covered by an array of artists, including most famously, the late Roberta Flack.
Speaking about the collaboration, Hozier said, "Barbra Streisand is one of the most enduring and iconic vocalists of our time, and somebody who defined an era with the sheer force of her voice, her talent, charisma and vision.
"To be asked to join her on a duet was a huge honour and came as a wonderful and welcome surprise."
He added, "Ewan MacColl's The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, made famous by the stunning Roberta Flack recording, has always mystified me.
"It is, to me, one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. Like so many, I was deeply saddened to hear of her recent passing. Along with the honour I have to sing on this record with Barbra, I hope this duet offers something of a gesture to Roberta Flack's incredible legacy."
"I've always loved singing duets with gifted artists," Streisand (83) said. "They inspire me in unique and different ways…and make our time in the studio a joy!
"My new album, The Secret Of Life: Partners, Volume Two, gave me the chance to work and play with some of my old friends, label mates, and new artists too.
"I admire all of them… and I hope that you'll enjoy listening to our collaborations as much as I enjoyed recording with all of my wonderful partners."

From headliners to how to get there – Everything you need to know about Electric Picnic 2025
Here is everything you need to know about the three-day event, from how to get there to the headliners. Who is on the Electric Picnic line-up? Hitmakers like Hozier, Chapell Roan, Sam Fender, Fatboy Slim and Kings of Leon are among the headliners this year, with international acts like Becky Hill, Confidence Man, The Kooks and Lord Huron also on the line-up. Inhaler, David Gray, Nile Rodgers + CHIC and The 2 Johnnies will also be on stage in Stradbally. Conan Gray and Irish stars like Biig Piig, Amble, Kingfishr, Bell X1, Maverick Sabre, The Academic and Aaron Rowe will also be playing throughout the weekend alongslide acts like Suki Waterhouse, Maribou State, Montell and Barry Can't Swim. RTÉ broadcaster Miriam O'Callaghan, podcaster Blindboy and comedian Rosie O'Donnell will be among those making appearances at the six 'Mindfield' stages, where podcasting, comedy and more will be on show. Where can I get a ticket? Tickets for Electric Picnic sold out months in advance, with the festival organisers warning any remaining hopefuls to be aware of any ticket scams. Anyone looking to secure a last-minute ticket have been reminded that Ticketmaster is the only authorised ticket agent for the festival, with organisers urging them not to buy from internet auction sites, from a website with an overseas office address or with no registered address shown, from another individual or tout, either in advance or outside the event. 'Do not buy a ticket online without seeing its face value. Do not pay more than the authorised standard booking fee per ticket. These are displayed on Ticketmaster,' they advised. 'If you ignore these pointers you are likely to pay a lot of money for something worthless as your ticket will be invalid." How do I get to Electric Picnic? If driving to the festival, attendees should follow event signage and directions from gardaí and 'not sat nav,' organisers say. There are different routes into the festival depending on mode of transport, the direction people are travelling from and the type of ticket they hold. Buses will be travelling from across the country, with all available services listed by county on the Electric Picnic website. When can I arrive at Electric Picnic? Early ticket holders can enter from 2pm on Thursday, while all other ticket holders can enter from 9am on Friday. What do I need to bring – and what am I not allowed to bring? Festival organisers have provided a checklist for ticket holders, reminding them to not bring more than you need as they will need to take it back home again. Most things can be bought on site if necessary, they add. Other essential include an entry ticket and ID, any required medication, clothing for all weather, comfortable footwear, camping equipment including a sleeping bag and ground mat and refuse sacks for rubbish. Certain items are not allowed on the grounds, including megaphones, bicycles, drones, fireworks, flares, flagpoles, gas canisters, generators, glass items over 100ml, sky lanterns and professional cameras. All bars, food traders, and non food traders will be operating as cashless only. Festival goers are allowed to bring alcohol for personal consumption to the campsite, though there is a limit of 48 cans per person as excessive amounts of food, cigarettes and alcohol may be refused entry to the site. Where do I pitch my tent? Are there new campsites? The pre-existing campsites named after musical and cultural icons Jimi Hendrix, Samuel Beckett, Andy Warhol, Ériu and Janis Joplin will return to Electric Picnic this year, but will be upgraded to include more showers, toilets and 'Get Ready with Me' stations with mirrors and plugs for straighteners and hairdryers. New pre-booked options were also introduced this year, allowing campers to register via the Electric Picnic website to ensure there is sufficient space for their tent in their preferred campsite. These sites include the brand-new Glitterball Campsite, the reformatted Poets Camp and the existing Eco and An Láthair Ghaeltachta. The Jimi Hendrix, Samuel Beckett, Andy Warhol, Ériu and Janis Joplin campsites require no reservation. What stages are at the festival this year? There are many stages at Electric Picnic, including the Main Stage and favourites like Fishtown and Trenchtown. The trailer park of themed mobile homes, which have in the past included a shrine to Daniel O'Donnell and a nest of seagulls who chased passersby for their chips, will also return. The six 'Mindfield' Stages, which include Leviathan: Political Cabaret, Manifesto, Ah, Hear Podcast, The Theatre, The Word and An Puball Gaeilge, will host debating, podcasting, poetry and music throughout the weekend.

Electric Picnic invites budding musicians to perform on festival's newest stage
The largest festival in the country, which already sold out months in advance, will take place in Stradbally, Co Laois, from August 29 to 31. While the headliners include global stars like Hozier, Chappell Roan and Fatboy Slim, musicians of all abilities have now been urged to apply toperform 'solo or ensemble, with up to 4 musical accompaniments' at the festival's newest stage. Curated slots at the piano will run throughout the weekend, with organisers inviting musicians to submit their details and a short video or audio clip demonstrating their talents. There will be space for more spontaneous performances too, but for those who successfully land a spot on the schedule, the space will be equipped with a high-quality 4 channel PA system with a microphone to support live vocals and three additional instruments. The deadline to apply is Monday 18 August, with winning entrants contacted by Thursday 21 August. Meanwhile, voting to name the new piano stage is now open, with festival organisers enlisting Ireland's electoral commission An Coimisiún Toghcháin to tally the votes. "Electric Picnic is now accepting applications from pianists, singer-songwriters, and musicians eager to become part of the festival,' said festival director Melvin Benn. "Whether you're a seasoned performer or simply someone ready to share music with the world, this is your chance to be part of something special.' Anyone who casts their vote will be in with a chance of winning two tickets to the festival – or VIP upgrades if they already secured tickets to the sold-out event in Stradbally later this month. There are eleven options on the ballot, including 'People's Piano', 'Electric Keys', 'The Ivory', 'Chromatic', 'The Picnic's piano', 'Keys at the Picnic', 'The Picnic Piano', 'The Ivory & Ash', 'The Crescendo Stage', 'Wild Keys' amd 'The Grand Stretch'. The poll closes on August 22, with voting now open on the Electric Picnic website. An Coimisiún Toghcháin executive director Art O'Leary said voters will also have the opportunity to check the register ahead of the upcoming presidential election after casting their vote for the new stage. "Once you cast your ballot for the new stage name, continue on and ensure you're registered to vote ahead of the upcoming Presidential election at - it only takes 3 minutes,' he said. Around 80,000 people are expected to descend on the 600-acre Stradbally Estate this summer, with a new wave of acts like Suki Waterhouse, Biig Piig, Maribou State, Montell and Barry Can't Swim to join them. The first five headline acts were revealed in March, with Hozier returning to the festival on Friday alongside Chappell Roan, who has soared to mega-stardom and recently won a Grammy. Other acts who will be taking to the stage include Conan Gray and Irish stars like Amble, Kingfishr, Bell X1, Maverick Sabre, The Academic and Aaron Rowe.

Tom Dunne: CMAT, Fontaines, and Kneecap to the fore in a golden age for Irish music
I hate to throw phrases like 'A Golden Age of Irish Music' around but, as politicians like to say, it is what it is. Homework was cancelled when Thin Lizzy had a hit with Whiskey in the Jar. By that metric the current success of Irish bands should warrant about a month off school. To put it in perspective, imagine if Glastonbury was taking place next year (it isn't, it's a rest year). No eyelid would bat if CMAT did the Pyramid Stage on Friday and Fontaines DC did the same Saturday. Hozier could play too. In Irish music history that is unprecedented. And before you split hairs with me CMAT played to a bigger more appreciative audience this year at Glastonbury than the later headliners The 1975 did. And that's before she releases her new album Euro-Country. Behold our new masters: CMAT I was at All Together Now the day after CMAT played. She was all anyone was talking about. People said she's been a bit emotional on stage, overwhelmed by the audience response. However emotional she may have been she wasn't as teary as the people telling me this. They adored her. Part of CMAT's appeal is her charm and relatability. She is down-to-earth and hilarious. She tells people she slept for 13 hours' after Glastonbury, the 'best sleep since November.' She also informs us that she writes albums quickly because, 'This might go away tomorrow.' She is genius songwriter with a gift for the killer line. I Wanna Be a Cowboy Baby, Stay for Something, Take a Sexy Picture of Me and The Jamie Oliver Petrol Station are equal parts heartbreak, wry observation and tragicomedy. It is a CMAT universe of KFC chicken wings and heartbreak. She has been on the receiving end of trolling over her physical appearance since the BBC Big Weekend of 2024. No surprise there, the internet is a cesspit, but she is forgiving even of that explaining that those who speak badly of her may not be having a great time of it themselves. It is this that I think is the key to her relatability. She is more at the Jarvis Cocker end of the celebrity spectrum than the diva end, and thank God for that. If you can't look at someone on stage and imagine, just briefly 'that could be me' then what's the point? She is all of that and yet has the self-possession on stage of a superstar. The CMAT FOR PRESIDENT movement starts today. Carlos O'Connell, Tom Coll, Conor Deegan III and Grian Chatten of Fontaines DC. (Photo by Vittorio Zunino Celotto/Getty) Fontaines DC 'The biggest Irish group since U2' is the phrase being bandied about. I think that's unfair to the Cranberries, but I can see where they are going. Quite simply since their debut album Dogrel in 2019 they have not put a foot wrong. They are incendiary live with a reputation that has proceeded them around the world. Key to that in Grian Chatten. He has a voice that at first seems incongruous, but which utterly defines their uniqueness. The minute you hear it on radio you think 'Fontaines DC'. Like CMAT, the flow of material is eye-watering. Despite an incredibly demanding touring schedule, they also produce new material as if also working to a 'this might go away tomorrow' mantra. Go on their website to see the sheer extent of their worldwide appeal – its Sweden today, Helsinki the 10th, Manchester the 15th and on and on. Kneecap onstage at Glastonbury. (Photo by Oli SCARFF / AFP) Kneecap I had thought of Hozier for the third slot as his various successes – sell out USA arenas, UK and US number ones, 1.6 billion Spotify plays for Too Sweet, and 3.1 billion for Take me to Church – obviously warrant it, but I had to go for Kneecap. Their success is just too hilarious to ignore. I don't think the British establishment has been this convulsed, this driven to new extremes of self-righteous indignation since the Sex Pistols released God Save The Queen. It's heart-warming to see. A group rapping in Irish. A man in a balaclava. An audience singing 'Get your Brits out.' How have I lived to see such wonders? Am I dreaming? There are more I could add here, Inhaler for a start, but let's leave it there and prepare our minds for the Boucher Road Playing Fields, Belfast, August 29. Fontaines DC and Kneecap in a town where on July 12 I saw both Union Jacks and Israeli flags flying side by side. It's going to be interesting.
