Pahang imposes immediate vape ban
State Islamic Religious Affairs, Rural Development, and Orang Asli Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Seri Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad said the Pahang Mufti's Department had issued a fatwa prohibiting the use of vape.
He said the fatwa was formally conveyed to the Pahang State Legal Adviser's Office on March 3 via a document issued by the Menteri Besar's Office.
"The matter was presented at the Pahang State Executive Council meeting on May 14 and received the consent of the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
"His Majesty had previously voiced concern over this issue (vape usage)," he said after chairing the State Islamic Religious Affairs sub-committee meeting at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Administrative Centre earlier today.

Logistics sector is nation's backbone, says Loke
PORT KLANG: It is crucial for everyone to join forces to uphold the nation's logistics sector, which is the backbone of the economy, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke. "Without the logistics sector, trade cannot take place and the economy will be crippled as imports and exports can't be carried out," he said in his short speech at the Kibarkan Jalur Gemilang Komuniti Pelabuhan Klang event in conjunction with National Day on Aug 31 held at the Port Klang Authority Social and Recreational club. Loke said it is the mission of the logistics industry community to ensure Port Klang, currently one of the top ten busiest ports globally, continues to grow and prosper the nation's economy. He said the Port Klang community will continue to enjoy the economic benefits from the various developmental projects initiated there. "Currently, we are planning to ensure the development of Carey Island as the third port can be implemented soon," he said. On a separate matter, Loke said the recent incidents where the Jalur Gemilang was flown upside down must not make people lose focus of the fact that the Jalur Gemilang belongs to the people. Loke said that the flag is also the unifying symbol for all Malaysians regardless of race, religion or political affiliation. "Although there have been several recent incidents involving the Jalur Gemilang, we must not lose sight of the fact that the Jalur Gemilang is our common flag. "National Day should unite Malaysians and remind us that love for the country must be part of our character and daily lives," said Loke. Teo: Media plays vital role in curbing fake news –
KUALA LUMPUR: The role of media practitioners, particularly journalists, is becoming increasingly important in curbing the spread of fake news, which is becoming more prevalent, especially through social media, said Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching. She said trained journalists know their roles and responsibilities as Malaysian citizens to verify the authenticity of any news, thus ensuring the public can differentiate between fake and real news. She added that, as of Aug 1, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had requested 16,110 fake news content be taken down, which is an alarming increase compared to the 5,367 cases in 2023 and 17,245 cases in 2024. "Scammers are now increasingly clever in using artificial intelligence (AI) to generate fake videos and voices to deceive victims," she said at the launch of the 2025 Malaysian Tamil Media Organisation Annual General Meeting here. In addition, she said the public is easily duped when exposed to unverified information that is repeatedly shared across various social media platforms until it is eventually accepted as true. She cited the case of Zara Qairina Mahathir, which went viral after the Form One student died due to alleged bullying in school. "Social media was flooded with various accusations and fake information, including claims that she was put into a washing machine for two hours. Although police confirmed a few days ago that it was fake news, I believe many still think it happened. "So, this trend is unhealthy and dangerous if it is not curbed. It can cause public anxiety, especially since it is related to the safety of school students," she said. In addition, Teo said the Madani Government will continue implementing initiatives to combat fake news by introducing the Artificial Intelligence Fact-check Assistance (AIFA) chatbox by MCMC, which can analyse messages in various languages, including Malay, Mandarin and Tamil.
