Wolves fan dedicates care home room to beloved club

BBC News10-04-2025

A lifelong Wolverhampton Wanderers fan who has cerebral palsy has created a shrine to his beloved club inside his care home. Simon Jordan, from Wolverhampton, goes to home games and two away games every season thanks to the help of his friends and staff at Wrottesley Park House Care Home. The 36-year-old, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was three years old, has dedicated his room to all things Wolves, from trophies to signed photographs."Wolves are the best club in the world, and I love the fact that I can have all my Wolves stuff in my room, it makes me happy," he said.
Simon, who communicates via a specially designed iPad, has been a resident at the care home on Wergs Road since November 2021.While his condition affects him physically, he said he could do everything with the support of the "lovely staff".
As well as being a devoted fan, Simon also used to play in the Wolverhampton Wanderers wheelchair team as goalkeeper. He began playing when he was 11 years old, using an adapted wheelchair that allowed him to play the game.He said he had fond memories of his four years there, winning many trophies that now have pride of place in his room."I loved playing for the team back in the day," he said."We won three tournaments and collecting the trophies are of course the highlights."
Simon said he could remember a game he went to with his dad at Sheffield United in May 2003, which Wolves won 3-0 . "This was one of the best games I have been to and the atmosphere was amazing," he said."The win meant Wolves went up to the Premier League, and the fans went mental." Simon will be heading to the next Wolves game on Sunday, when they take on Tottenham Hotspur at Molineux Stadium.
Santhosh George, manager of Wrottesley Park House Care Home, said Simon was always very grateful to the staff."Simon is such lovely fun-loving young man with great sense of humour," he said."His room is certainly a Wolves shrine. "It's simply brilliant, he has arranged the room very well."According to Simon, Wrottesley Park is like family to him, and he maintains a good rapport with all team members."

Jack Grealish next club odds after Man City star axed from Club World Cup squad

Jack Grealish faces an increasingly uncertain future at Manchester City, with the Englishman expected to be left out of Pep Guardiola's squad for the Club World Cup. Grealish played a limited role for City towards the end of the season and was left out of the matchday squad for the final game of the season versus Fulham. The 29-year-old started just one league game in 2025, with Guardiola conceding the winger could move on in the summer. 'Of course, Jack has to play,' Guardiola said in May. 'He's an unbelievable player that has to play football every three days. 'It didn't happen this season and last season either. He needs to do it – with us or another place. If he stays it will be fine and he fought like he fought from day one to make a contribution.' With several clubs circling ahead of the transfer window, the Telegraph reports that Grealish will not be in City's squad for the Club World Cup in what is perhaps the clearest indication yet that his future lies away from the Etihad. The decision is said to have been made to allow Grealish the best opportunity to find a new club ahead of next season. Securing a transfer away from Manchester may prove difficult given his £300,000-a-week wages, and an initial loan deal could well be on the cards. Perhaps hoping to take advantage of that loan opportunity could be Everton, who have been installed as the bookies favourites to sign Grealish. The Toffees enjoyed a resurgent second half of the season under David Moyes and will look to kick on next campaign as they move into their new stadium. Antonio Conte's side could be in the market for a new left-sided attacker after selling Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to PSG in January and Italy has proven a great place for ex-Premier League stars to find another lease of life. Tottenham and Newcastle have also been touted as favourites to make a move for Grealish as both sides look to fill out their squads ahead of a return to the Champions League. More Trending And a return to Aston Villa could also be on the cards, with Grealish's former club priced at 6/1 to make a swoop for their former star. Wherever he may end up, Alan Shearer believes it is imperative that Grealish departs the Etihad as soon as possible, saying after the FA Cup final: 'His time is up at Man City. He has to leave. 'For Pep Guardiola to bring on a debutant, a young boy, and [Ilkay] Gundogan rather than Jack Grealish when Man City are desperate for a goal… his time is up. 'He's done at Man City, he has to leave. For whatever reason Pep is done with him, he doesn't like him. His time is up, it really is.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Premier League opts not to change rules that helped Chelsea comply with PSR

Premier League teams have chosen not to change controversial rules that allow the sale of fixed assets to companies related to a club's ownership. Despite discontent among some clubs over the rules, which have helped Chelsea to meet profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) by selling two Stamford Bridge hotels to businesses linked to their owners, no vote was taken on changing them at the league's annual general meeting in Harrogate on Wednesday. Sign up to Football Daily Kick off your evenings with the Guardian's take on the world of football after newsletter promotion Under current rules clubs can sell assets to related companies and include the revenue in PSR calculations the following season as long as the deals are seen to have been conducted at fair market value. Chelsea's hotel sales were ultimately cleared by the Premier League after a lengthy assessment which concluded earlier this year. The process led to the value of the deal being restated, however, at £70.5m in Chelsea's latest accounts, down from an original £76.5m. The west London side have also sold their women's team to a related company at a value of almost £200m last year, helping the club record a net profit of £129.6m for the year ended 30 June 2024. The Guardian understands that the league was asked by some clubs to table an amendment that would prevent such deals from being included in PSR calculations in future. That proposal was ultimately removed from a series of votes on rule changes, however, after it became clear there was insufficient support amongst the totality of clubs to pass it. All clubs attended the AGM on Wednesday knowing there would be no vote. This is not the first occasion that clubs have stepped back from changing the rules. Alterations were discussed first in 2021, when the EFL had brought in tougher rules, and then last summer, but no vote was taken on either occasion. The sale of fixed assets cannot be included in revenue under Uefa's financial sustainability rules, however and the Blues are expected to have agree a potential financial settlement with European football's governing body as a result.
