Kim Novak to receive Life Achievement honor at Venice Film Festival

June 9 (UPI) -- Vertigo and Of Human Bondage actress Kim Novak is set to receive the Golden Lion Life Achievement honor at the Venice Film Festival this summer.
"Inadvertently becoming a screen legend, Kim Novak was one of the most beloved icons of an entire era of Hollywood films, from her auspicious debut during the mid-1950s until her premature and voluntary exile from the gilded cage of Los Angeles a short while later," the festival's director Alberto Barbera said in a statement Monday.
"She never refrained from criticizing the studio system, choosing her roles, who she let into her private life and even her name. Forced to renounce her given name, Marilyn Pauline, because it was associated with Monroe, she fought to conserve her last name, agreeing, in exchange, to dye her hair that shade of platinum blonde which set her apart. Independent and nonconformist, she created her own production company and went on strike to renegotiate a salary that was much lower than that of her male co-stars."
Novak, 92, is also known for her roles in Kiss Me, Stupid, The Man With the Golden Arm, The Legend of Lylah Clare, The Eddy Duchin Story, Pal Joey, Pushover, Bell Book and Candle, Strangers When We Meet and The Notorious Landlady.
The 82nd edition of the festival is to take place Aug. 27 through Sept. 6.

'Thunderbolts,' 'Last of Us' lead Critics Choice Super Awards nominees
June 11 (UPI) -- The nominations for the Critics Choice Super Awards are in. Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as the titular characters, tied with Thunderbolts, starring Florence Pugh, for the most film nominations. Both titles are up for six awards, including Best Superhero Movie, according to a press release. "These selections represent the very best of popular culture, and we can't wait to see who takes home the honors." Jack Black to be honored at Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards

The Minecraft Movie star is also known for voicing characters in The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Kung Fu Panda. Black will be presented with the King of Comedy Award, receiving a Silver Blimp before being "decimated in Nickelodeon's iconic Slime," a press release states. Tyla is set to host the show, which also features Alex Warren, Auli'i Cravalho, Benny Blanco, Ice Spice, Jack Griffo, Jacob Rodriguez, Katelyn West, Kel Mitchell, Kira Kosarin, Maia Kealoha, Renee Montgomery, SeanDoesMagic, Samantha Lorraine, Tony Hawk, Victoria Monet and KATSEYE. The prestigious film festival's official Instagram account announced the dates of its 2026 edition on social media Tuesday. "We already know the dates for #Cannes2026," the post said. "SAVE THE DATE: the Festival de Cannes will be back for its 79th edition from May 12 to 23, 2026!" The 78th Cannes Film Festival took place May 13-14, 2025. The festival's top prize, the Palme d'Or, went to Jafar Panahi for his film, Un Simple Accident. Joachim Trier's Sentimental Value was awarded the Grand Prix, while Kleber Mendonca Filho won the Best Director award for The Secret Agent and Wagner Moura was tapped as Best Actor for the same film. Nadia Melliti received the Best Actress award for La Petite Derniere.
