Barcelona defender Koundé faces a spell out with hamstring injury
BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Barcelona defender Jules Koundé sustained a left hamstring injury against Inter Milan in their Champions League semifinal, likely ruling him out of next week's return leg.
Koundé has a distal hamstring injury and there's no timeframe on his return, Barcelona said on Thursday.
'His evolution will determine when he returns to first team activities,' the five-time Champions League winner posted
on its website
.
Distal hamstring injuries can take around two weeks to heal and sometimes cause pain behind the knee.
Barcelona plays Inter on Tuesday and is also fighting for the La Liga title, with a potentially decisive home game against defending champion Real Madrid on May 11.
Koundé has been an almost ever-present for coach Hansi Flick this season and Wednesday's thrilling first-leg match —
which finished 3-3
and saw some spectacular goals — was his 53rd appearance of the season.
Koundé scored a fine goal last Saturday when he
hit the winner
in extra time against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final.
It was his fourth goal of a season where the France international has emerged as a key player under Flick.
A few weeks ago, Koundé was outspoken about how
soccer's congested schedule
was having an impact on players' bodies and warned of the risk of injury.
Manchester City midfielder Rodri raised similar concerns early this season, shortly before sustaining
an ACL injury
which needed surgery. ___

Jones went deep in the eighth in his Tigers debut, belting a pinch-hit drive off Génesis Cabrera. The game, attended by a large contingent of Cubs fans, drew a crowd of 40,132 for the third sellout at Comerica Park this season.

Caoimhin Kelleher ‘buzzing' as he completes £18m move to Brentford from Liverpool
Goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher has left Liverpool to join Brentford in a £18m deal. It brings to an end a nine-year stay at the club, with Liverpool receiving an initial £12.5m for Kelleher and add-ons taking the overall fee to £18m. Advertisement The 26-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Bees, with the club holding an option to extend the deal by a further 12 months. Kelleher is expected to take over as Brentford's first choice goalkeeper following the departure of Dutch international Mark Flekken, who has joined Bayer Leverkusen for around £11m. 'I'm buzzing, I'm really happy to be here,' said the 26-year-old. 'I don't think it was very difficult for me to leave [Liverpool]. I felt for my own career that the time was right for me to go, to be a number one and to play every week. 'I heard of some interest a number of weeks ago. Once I knew Brentford was in for me, it was definitely one I was really excited about and wanted to do as quickly as possible.' His former club Ringmahon Rangers are also set to benefit from the transfer thanks to a 20% sell-on clause included in his original move to Liverpool, netting them a substantial seven figure sum. Kelleher becomes the second major departure from Liverpool this summer, following former vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold's £10m move to Real Madrid.
